14 Air-Sampling Type Smoke Detector FR-2016 Revised Section to eliminate potential confusion between Air-Sampling Type Smoke Detectors and Spot Smoke Detectors Smoke Spot-type smoke detectors that have provision for field adjustment of sensitivity via a mechanical means shall have an adjustment range of not less than 0.6 percent per foot (1.95 percent per meter) obscuration. Existing requirement may create confusion if it is viewed within the context of high sensitivity aspirated detectors, which have sensitivity settings outside of the normal UL range of 0.5 to 4%/ft PI #373? A suggestion that is provided within the scope of the report but is not required and does not rise to the level of a deficiency. The Technical Committee makes multiple changes to this table under guidance from the Correlating Committee, to increase clarity of requirements and to include new battery technologies. 47 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS FR 4509 (con t) Add new text: A * Inspection and Testing Report Recommendation. A recommendation should not be considered a required system deficiency or impairment repair, but could become one in the future for example, manufacturer suggested device replacements, executive software upgrades, corroded electrical box/fitting/raceway replacement, and other similar items not directly impacting a system s ability to complete its intended function at the point in time when the recommendation was made. Reason: To provide additional clarification to both the building owner and service provider that recommendations are permitted but not required to be acted upon by this Code. PI #341 / FR #

48 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS Add new text: The inspection, testing, and maintenance required by this chapter and NFPA 25 shall be coordinated so that the system operates as intended. Reason: This new section clarifies this coordinated effort, namely that the functions common to both systems operate as intended. FR #

49 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS Add new text: During required testing, service, or maintenance of fire alarm systems, inspection, service, or testing personnel shall be permitted to make note of opportunities to improve or enhance existing system performance If opportunities to improve or enhance existing system performance are noted, such observations shall be communicated to the system owner via official correspondence in the inspection and testing report or in a separate document The system owner shall only be required to consider, but shall not be required to authorize, implementation of any recommendations. Reason: This new section was added to provide additional clarification to both the building owner and service provider that recommendations are permitted but not required to be acted upon by this Code. 51 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS Add new text: The system shall be clearly identified by a placard, sticker, or other means to indicate the next regularly scheduled inspection, test, or maintenance. Exception: If the devices have been tested as part of the normal carbon monoxide alarm testing, the existing means of indicating the next regularly scheduled inspection period shall be permitted. Reason: Provides new language to incorporate NFPA 720 requirements into Chapter 14 in accordance with the guidance of the Correlating Committee. PI #360 / FR #

56 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS FR 4522, FR 4523 The Technical Committee edits the text to be consistent with the new proposed definition of official correspondence and adds the word deficiency to be consistent throughout the section. FR 4524 The Technical Committee edits text to be consistent with the new proposed definition of official correspondence, and provides new language in the Annex to address the need to take into account manufacturer tolerances for equipment operability, especially where environmental conditions are not optimal. 59 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS FR 4505 Correlation in Section No. D Reason: The Technical Committee revises the text to replace panel with unit and thereby correlate with the definition of an Emergency Communications System Control Unit in Chapter 3. FR 4506 Editorial Change in Sections , Reason: The Technical Committee removed the words "in writing" because they were found to be unnecessary. PI #340 / FR #4505 &

60 Proposed Changes SIG-TMS FR 4528 Correlation Issue in Section No. F.1 Reason: The Technical Committee edits the text in line with a review conducted by the Correlating Committee and for consistency with Chapter 12. Class R and Class S have been removed from Chapter 12 and Class N has been added. The above text will harmonize accordingly. FR 4531 Table Modification in Section No. A Reason: The Technical Committee modifies column GG and replaces "exterior strobe" with "exterior visible notification appliance". This is done as part of the Correlating Committee Task Group on terms, the term "light" and strobe was reviewed throughout the entire document for proper use. In some cases it refers to a physical appliance while other sections use it to refer to the output of an appliance. In this section the term is for an appliance and the proper term "visible notification appliance" should be used. PI #717 / FR #4528 &
