2 This booklet is a diary of the design and installation process for a typical kitchen from Unfitted or Original Shaker (our sister company), that commenced in April Karen & Ian live in Hertfordshire, approximately 85 miles from the showroom. That s pretty close - we regularly supply kitchens all over the UK including the Scottish Highlands and across the Channel into France & Italy. The furthest kitchen was delivered to a customer in Sydney, Australia! Karen & Ian s kitchen story began after Karen searched the internet and found our website. She subsequently registered for a brochure and fell in love with our kitchens. We show smaller copies of each of the designs on the following pages to give you an idea how the initial design ideas evolved into reality - visit our showrooms where you ll find dozens of kitchen designs and ideas to create a truly unique kitchen. Designing, manufacturing and installing a new kitchen is a major undertaking. The design stage of the process takes anything from one week to many months, or even years. Most customers take a month or so to place an order, from the initial design to acceptance of our proposals (Karen & Ian took three months). Our fastest order to date is three days (from the site visit to order acceptance) and the longest is over seven years! Delivery of your kitchen is weeks from receipt of deposit. MAY 17 Mark visits Karen & Ian in Buntingford - design ideas discussed together with a detailed brief and room dimensions. Mark is also shown around the property to give him a better understanding of their tastes and design preferences. 5 Two kitchen designs (A & B) ed to Karen & Ian within a few days. Please note that unlike most other design studios, we don t expect you to visit our showrooms to view your kitchen design, preferring that you have the time and space to consider our ideas and recommendations in the comfort of your own home. MAY 21 Two design options showing the AGA either set forward or set back into the chimney breast (depending on the structural engineers report) and the sink either in the island or located on the outer wall between the two windows (placing the sink in front of one of the windows wasn t an option because of access restrictions). The existing kitchen incorporated a sink in the island, so we wanted to explore other options.

6 JUNE 1 Updated design (C) consisting of plan and elevations ed & posted to the customer. AGA is consigned to the scrap heap and the additional cooker removed, offering significantly more storage space at base and wall cabinet level. Everhot range cooker slots perfectly into the chimney recess. First elevations created.

7 Quotation (C) also ed & posted. All options clearly specified. Everything priced up for transparency. Cabinet and cabinet combinations (including handles and worktops) each individually priced (making it easier for budgeting, etc.) Useful information to help you make informed decisions. This table relates to the running costs of an Everhot cooker compared to an electric AGA.

8 JUNE 8 Mark visits Karen & Ian in Buntingford - discuss design and layout, finalise cabinet sizes and specifications. Updated design (D) consisting of plan, elevations and quotation all ed & posted to the customer. Dresser cupboards changed to bi-fold doors. Breakfast cupboard changed to a reduced depth midi larder cupboard. Worktop corners rounded off. Sink changed to a full depth sit-on sink with 2.5 bowls and integrated drainer. Sink cabinet doors attached to internal pull-out drawer (for easy access to cleaners, etc.).

9 Updated design (E) consisting of plan, elevations and quotation all ed & posted to the customer. JULY 30 Dresser cupboards changed to a combination of bi-fold and standard hinged doors. Island made smaller and base cabinets changed to deep saucepan drawer cabinets. Tall larder cupboards either side of the fridge/freezer reduced in depth so that they are stepped giving wider access to the back door. Perrin & Rowe hot water tap added. Clearance measurements added.

10 AUGUST 6 Karen & Ian visit our showroom in Moreton in Marsh. Updated design (F) consisting of plan, elevations and quotation all ed & posted to the customer. Everhot cannot be recessed after all so a rethink is required to allow sufficient circulation area around the island. Island configuration changed with the stools being moved to one end and base cabients added on both sides. LED feature lighting added above tall cabinets and wall cabinets, underneath wall cabinets and shelf plus inside the dresser cupboards.

11 Customer confirms that they wish to accept our latest quotation and place the order. Confirmation of Order, plans and elevations are ed and posted to Karen & Ian. AUGUST 10 All handles, worktops and paint colour(s) to be confirmed. All cabinet dimensions to be checked and confirmed after a further site visit (after building work has commenced). ) Pre-Delivery Data Sheet to be completed (architects and services contractors details required for future communication). Everhot Access Form to be completed to ensure that the delivery and installation goes smoothly.

12 AUGUST 15 Installation date confirmed as 22nd October (12 weeks from receipt of order and deposit). Pre-Delivery Data Sheet and Everhot Access forms completed. 13 Mark visits Karen & Ian in Buntingford - all walls marked up and measurements check and confirmed. First fix electrics also checked. Mark brings boxes of paint swatches, worktop finishes and handles with him to finalise paint colour and confirm worktop finishes and choice of handles.
