1 Boca Raton Orchid Society October, 2008 The Orchid Scentinel Inside this issue: Monthly Program 1 P.O. Box , Boca Raton, FL Thursday, October 2, 2008 Program Angraecums for South Florida Speaker: Tom Kuligowski 7:30 p.m. Board Of Directors Calendar of Events AOS Calendar of Events President s Message Membership Upcoming Events Announcements 90 Miles Of Orchids Road Trip Refreshments Plant Table In the last three years, Tom Kuligowski, a member of the Boca Raton Orchid Society and the Ft. Lauderdale Orchid Society, has had two major photography exhibits take place at the American Orchid Society in Delray Beach. An exhibit entitled My Secret Garden opened recently and will be at the AOS until late October He recently showcased his work at the 19 th World Orchid Conference this past January. Tom comments that Any opportunity to exhibit in a gallery or at an art festival is an opportunity to expand customer base and gain additional exposure. Exhibiting at the American Orchid Society s headquarters is a dream come true. The majority of my subject matter deals with orchids that I have grown or photographed in my travels. It is the perfect location to showcase my work with orchids to both professionals in the field and enthusiasts alike. Although an accomplished commercial and fine art photographer, Tom will be speaking on his passion for Angraecums. Advertisers 7 Over the last eight and a half years, Tom has been captivated by the Angraecum genera and its culture. The main reason initially was that it was the first orchid away from the traditional orchids that he used as a subject in his photography. Learning that his subject plant was a hybrid, he wanted to learn more about the parents. That search would lead him into well over 600 species of angraecoids. Being a photographer, Tom has documented a wide variety of Angraecums. Talking to various growers that spend a fair amount of time with the genera has helped him grow numerous specimen plants. Tom does not state that he is a professional grower; but his experience over the years has labeled him as an expert with Angraecums. For an in depth look into the work of Tom Kuligowski, visit his web site at See you at the meeting, Tom Kuligowski Jackie Wood, V.P. Programs

Swinton Ave. & NE 1 st Street Delray Beach Info: Bring this coupon for $1.00 off admission at the door Happy Belated Anniversary to Susan and George Barbuty We were all so thrilled to see Susan and George at our September meeting. We found out later that it was their 54th Wedding Anniversary and they decided to spend the evening with us. How Wonderful! NOTICE: In order to be able to bring our Society speakers from other areas and to share the cost with other local Societies, beginning January, 2009, The Boca Raton Orchid Society Monthly Meetings will move to the 2nd Thursday of each month. The Board Meeting will move to the 1st Wednesday of each month. We all hope this will not be an inconvenience for anyone, but instead we will all benefit from the additional speakers that we will be able to provide for our monthly programs. The Board Library Commentary BROS membership provides hobbyists many benefits, one of which is the library. Not only do we verbally share hints, tips and encouragement regarding our plants, we have professional resources available to us via our library. The library is supported by the membership and is for the use of all members. A detailed inventory of library resources reveals a startling fact. Approximately 25% of our inventory is missing. PLEASE check your home for BROS books. Return books at the next meeting. Your cooperation is appreciated by your fellow members.
