13 Incident: On 02/19/2014 at approximately 1405 hours, GSOC toned out an emergency response signal for fire and security to respond to Stage 24 for smell of gas. Units responding were: Senior Fire Marshal Ray Arias, Fire Marshal Paul Gutierrez, Fire Marshal Arran Dahlberg, Corporal Margaret Vandenbree and Officer Armando Salcedo. They met with Parking Sergeant Cris Magallanes and the following information was relayed: Investigation: Sgt. Magallanes reported a smell of gas to GSOC. Fire and Security units checked Stage 24. Arias requested for Sony Plumbing to respond and Mr. Craig Barry, Plumbing Supervisor, responded to check the area. The stage was clear. Dahlberg reported that he might have found the source of the smell. The area, outside Stage 24, was checked and the gas meter was showing evidence of a leak underground. Sony Environmental Safety was notified and the following responded: Mr. Eric Bush, Executive Director Corporate Safety, Mr. Scott Falkenstien, Executive Director Fire Prevention & Life Safety and Miss Angela Ballesteros, Manager Environmental Affairs arrived. Per Falkenstien the sprinkler control valve vault located on the southwest corner of Stage 22, is to remain open and ventilated until further. There has been previous gas detection in this vault. Safety has provided gas detection meters inside this vault that will be checked every half hour by security lot patrols. In the unlikely event an audible alarm sounds from this meter, lot patrols will notify GSOC immediately. At this time, Dahlberg is on standby on Stages 23 & 24 with gas detection meter for a live audience show in progress, the SPT production of "The Queen Latifah Show'. gas is currently detected. Security, Fire, Safety, Studio Ops, Facilities have all been briefed. Lieutenant Jason Toettcher passed on the information to all security supervisors of the monitoring of the gas meters. On 2/20/2014 at approximately 0600 hours, Sony Plumbing began work on 5th Avenue and Main Street. Mr. Bob Bailey, Sony Plumber, has began repairs. Security was posted around the area, to keep all vehicle and pedestrian traffic away. At approximately 1330 hours, a live wire was cut during the repair work. Mr. David Allan, Sony Electrician, responded and began working. Between 2300 hours and 0200 hours, on /221/2014 hours, another live wire was cut. As repair continued, Allan observed what looked like Asbestos. He immediately notified Environmental Safety and worked stopped. On 2/21/2014 hours, security continued to keep all vehicles and pedestrians away from the possible infected area. Mr. Colin Monaghan, Director, MEP Operations arrived with Ballesteros, Falkenstien, Mr. Patrick Dempsey, Vice President Facilities & Back Lot Operations. Busch and Arias arrived to inspect the area. A fence was put up around the trench to keep everyone away. An abatement company, Argus Contractors, was hired to cleanup the suspected asbestos. The suspicious evidence was taken to a lab and no asbestos was found. On 2/22/2014 repairs continued. The gas leak was found and was sealed. Steal plates were placed down, over the trench.
