2 Concept: Air, Light and a Sense of Calm Creating a place that touches all the senses was the central premise to this design concept. A space that is private yet open to the view and the tropical climate was paramount to the design of this space. The infinity edge spa, providing the continuing sound of running water, connects the verandah by a suspended walkway and the bathroom directly through screen doors for ease of access and transition from one to the other. We see this area surrounded by lush and fragrant foliage. On arrival at the villa, the sound of water greets the guest with an integrated water feature at the entry. On entering, the space is open and clear maximising the height offered by the structure and giving a sense of space. The niche to the right, provides the opportunity for scented candles and arrangements as does the shelf behind the bed. The centrally located bed forms the focal point of the space and is positioned to take advantage of the view and the breeze moving through the space. Sheer curtains provide privacy, if required, and are supplemented with blockout blinds that do not impact on the space in the course of the day. The bed is framed by a suspended mosquito net frame and a low bedhead, with 2 tall lamps that allows visibility to the dressing and mini bar area while creating a small separation with the balance of the space. The bathroom is fully tiled with a travertine marble and associated feature tile reminiscent of the coral reefs that surround the bay. The height available in this room is maximised for a sense of air and light. The ability to step from the bathroom into the spa is through the full height screen doors which also allow light to filter into the bathroom while affording full privacy. Finishes reflect the location while providing a sense of serenity in the space. Timbers are local to the region and where these are used indoors, are carved or developed into screens that allow the light to filter through. Fine weaving to the floor mat and the ceiling are soft and refined in texture Bathrooms are furnished in travertine referencing the coral reefs that surround the bay. Jewel coloured accents are added to the soft furnishings to reflect the intense colour of the flowers of this region. Keeping in mind that this villa interacts with the main living spaces of the overall development for socialising, furnishings for lounging were limited internally although space will allow for larger furnishings if required, should this villa be rented as a separate entity. The external living spaces take advantage of the shade and the sun through the day. Areas for external dining, external sunbathing or simply lounging, while being provided some privacy, exist on the two verandahs. Sheers provide privacy to the Day Lounge. The interaction of the external landscaping and the internal space will be important to enhance the sense of privacy and lushness to the villa.
