5 Comments Received (Edited from respondents own words) Do you or your family ever visit Scotts Crescent Reserve? Yes Survey (10) (2) No Survey (1) If no, why not? We overlook the Reserve from our house and enjoy the peacefulness and greenery of the Reserve. Survey (1) If yes what facilities do you use at Scotts Crescent Reserve? Swings Survey (6) Rockers Survey (3) Picnic table Survey (4) Park seating Survey (4) Grassed area Survey (6) As a thoroughfare Survey (5) Other Survey (0) What do you like about Scotts Crescent Reserve? Close to home. Survey (5) It s quiet. Survey (4) Handy / convenient location. Survey (2) We and two of the other residents do not want the park to change. (1) Secluded. Survey (1) On a quiet street. Survey (1) Protected. Survey (1) Nice piece of open space. Survey (1) Good link between industrial / commercial and residential areas. Survey (1) Is there anything you dislike about Scotts Crescent Reserve? The grass is usually overgrown. Survey (7) Not well maintained. / untidy Survey (5) Play equipment is old. Survey (3) Rubbish around. Survey (3) Drainage is a problem at the lower end of the reserve and the large grassed area requires a lot of maintenance Survey (2) Letter (1) Needs upkeep, beautification and facilities Survey (1) The play equipment is very limited, basic & not stimulating. Survey (1) It s not much fun for the kids. (1) Staircase makes it difficult to access with a pram. Survey (1) Not enough play equipment. Survey (1) Lack of fencing to stop kids running on to road. Survey (1) 3

6 Not enough facility. Survey (1) A bit far-removed. Survey (1) The picnic table is falling apart. Survey (1) Letter (2) Rubbish (branches, etc) are often left to pile up close to the play equipment. Survey (1) Picnic tables poorly situated (dense shade, waterlogged after rain). Survey (1) Overgrown with weeds. Letter (1) Shrubbery on either side of the steps leading down to the playground is unattractive. Letter (1) What improvements would you like to see at Scotts Crescent Reserve? Play equipment Upgrade play equipment. Survey (5) Letter (1) Climbing equipment. Survey (1) Soft play area, new swings, slides and climbing equipment, see-saw. Survey (1) Swing and slide and rocker suitable for the under-fives. Survey (2) Install a flying fox. (1) Survey (1) One of those spinning things are lots of fun too! (1) Include slide. Letter (1) Rubber softfall to replace sand. Letter (1) A path all the way around for the kids to scooter around. (1) Survey (1) A climbing castle with a slide and soft landing base. (1) A fort with a decent slide and at least 2 swings. Soft underfoot surfaces to protect against any falls. Interactive equipment which children can explore, grow and develop their sense of coordination. A rope climbing tree similar to the one at War Memorial Playing fields on Alpha Road and a rocket with slide like the new one at Muston Park Penshurst Street are popular. Slippery slide or flying fox or both. I reckon that if these pieces of playground (1) equipment were to make use of the existing slope down from the Boundary Street edge then the playground would be more apparent. I would also like to see some swings installed which are as good (nice high top bar and (1) long chain) as the current swing set. Perhaps it would be even better just to improve the current swing set. Would really like to see bigger kids catered for (there are quite a few 5-12 years old Survey (1) living nearby). Climbing wall, monkey bars, flip bars, climbing equipment, giant saucer swing, flying (1) fox, spinning wheel, slide. presentation New play equipment needs to be installed with a greater non-grassed area. (1) Clearer area around play equipment. Survey (1) We certainly would object to Council installing children s play equipment in the park. (1) Facilities / amenities Toilet facilities (1) I do not want council to put public toilets or BBQ here as there is not a great need for it (1) and it may encourage homeless people to reside here. Shelter from bad weather or the extremes of heat in the summer. (1) Education is also important, so perhaps a little plaque advising of the history of the (1) areas would also be appropriate for the new reserve. Lighting Lighting Often dumping occurs in this area and darkness provides an ideal situation for unsocial activity in parks so please ensure that some form of lighting is considered. (1) Survey (1) Solar panel lighting. Survey (1) Fencing A fully enclosed playground would be ideal so that the children don t run into the road (2) 4

7 and adults can restrict entry and access where appropriate. Child proof fences installed to both ends. Survey (1) Fence near road to stop kids running on to road. Survey (1) Signage Signage at the 3 entry points. Survey (1) Signposts at stairs indicating walking path to the destination, so the area looks like it Survey (1) should be used. Planting Landscaping with native plants and shrubs. (1) Flowering shrubs around perimeter fencing. Survey (1) Plant some flowering trees and shrubs. (1) Maybe some flowering bushes/shrubs which will provide more privacy (along our long Survey (1) fence line) as we are pretty well exposed if anyone is sitting in the park looking directly into our property. New shrubs. Survey (1) Remove the shrubbery on either side of the steps from Boundary St entry and grass Letter (1) the slope for easy mowing. A community involvement group for voluntary upkeep and community garden work Survey (1) Access A north-south footpath to allow better access when the grass is long. Survey (1) Upgrade steps to Boundary St. Survey (1) Removal and beautification of Boundary Street entry. Survey (1) Furniture New table and chairs sets. (2) Survey (1) Letter (1) Fixed table and seating arrangements. Survey (1) Seating is preferred for people who want to sit and take in the park atmosphere, (at (1) least 2 park benches is preferable). 3 picnic tables (one in middle and one at either end of the park). Survey (1) Re-site picnic tables into sunnier, drier areas of park. Survey (1) A barbecue facility. Survey (2) (1) Install rubbish bins. Survey (1) Install a minimum of 3 bins. Survey (1) Install a bubbler. Survey (1) Install exercise circuit in a sturdy material. Letter (1) Maintenance Mow the lawns more regularly. (1) Survey (5) Regular maintenance and upkeep of reserve. Survey (4) Bins emptied more frequently. Survey (1) Collect rubbish. Survey (1) Extra rubbish for the workers from the adjacent office/warehouse complex. Survey (1) Fix metal bars install along the pedestrian footpath between the reserve and Survey (1) office/warehouse complex to prevent motor cyclists from entering. Fix the drainage. Letter (1) Regrass the park. Letter (1) Do you have a suggested name for the park? Bates Reserve. Named after the Bates family who first inhabited the eastern side of (1) Roseville. Samuel Bate and more particularly his sons Richard and John who first squatted then rented in 1831 and later bought land at Echo Point. It was only John, however, who lived there with any degree of permanency. Blue Gum Reserve to reflect the beautiful trees in the area. (1) 5

8 Honour the History of early families in the District (1) Pat O Reilly reserve to honour the community work over many, many years by our (1) former deceased Mayor Native Plant name (1) Craven Reserve in honour of Vic Craven who was a long time resident of Scotts (1) Crescent. Vic was a stonemason who carried out extensive work in the 1950 s, 1960 s and 1970 s around Roseville, Roseville Chase, Echo Point, Lindfield and Castle Cove to name a few local areas. Vic s work was charactered by a trademark of a double groove which he made in the mortar joints of stone flagging that he laid for paving and short vertical walls. The tool that formed the double grooves was made from the U- shaped handle of an old metal milk bucket. His work can be seen at many locations in the areas mentioned above. He also constructed many feature walls from bush rocks, as well as rockeries and ponds, of which many examples still exist. Vic did not use power tools and cut large rocks by hand drilling with wedges driven into holes drilled along the desired fracture line. He obtained most of his work by word of mouth recommendations. I have looked for any evidence of Vic s work in the Reserve but could not identify any of his work. Boundaway Reserve eg Boundary and Eastern Valley Way and denotes getting Survey (1) away to a quiet secluded reserve The existing one is fine. Survey (1) Scotts Park mostly used by residents of Scotts Crescent and nearby Scotts Creek. Survey (1) Name is nice and easy to remember and relate, and has local associations. Perhaps after a native animal- for example a water dragon or type of bird. There could Survey (1) be a sculpture of the animal chosen to illustrate why the reserve is named as such. Yes Lyons Reserve Our family is the first and longest residents of this area having Survey (1) moved in when our house was built in the early 1950 s or Lyons Park or Lyons Scott Reserve or even Scott Lyons Park. Scott Crescent Park Survey (1) Sawmill Reserve after the sawmill that was there at the end of the reserve where the Letter (1) industrial complex is. Orchard Park because Scotts Crescent was once covered in orchards. (1) Quarry Reserve as there used to be a large open sandstone quarry in the area. Letter (1) What is your postcode? (5) Survey (11) How did you find out about this survey? Letter Survey (10) Other Survey (1) North Shore Times Letter (1) 6
