2 THE LARGEST GROUP OF TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING COMPANIES IN LITHUANIA Kelprojektas is currently the largest group of transport infrastructure engineering companies in Lithuania that designs transport communications, public use buildings, engineering systems, and performs territorial planning works, etc. In June 2013, Kelprojektas acquired a controlling portfolio of shares of company Urbanistika operating in the field of territorial planning. Core areas of activity by Kelprojektas : engineering of roads and streets engineering of railways engineering of bridges, viaducts, skyways, and tunnels engineering of airports and seaports engineering of buildings feasibility studies and environmental impact assessments geological exploration, investigation, and engineering geodesy and planning, etc. Core areas of activity by Urbanistika : territorial planning (master, special, detailed plans) engineering of territories, communication, engineering networks, residential, public, industrial and etc. objects studies and consultations. Employees Currently, the group of Kelprojektas companies employs 280 highly skilled and experienced employees. Employees who regularly advance their professional skills use the latest software (Autodesk Civil 3D, Civil 3D+GeoMap, SoFisTik, Microstation, ANSYS/Structural, MXROAD, 3ds Max Design, Robot Structural Analysis, etc.). Total number of projects: During 55 years of operation, the group of Kelprojektas companies implemented over 6,000 different projects in the fields of transport infrastructure, territorial planning, etc. Foreign markets Long-term experience, advanced technologies and innovative engineering solutions enables Kelprojektas to successfully participate in transport infrastructure modernization and development processes both, in Lithuania and other countries (Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, etc.). Kelprojektas group of companies implemented thousands projects in the fields of road, bridge and railway engineering, territorial planning, etc. 2

3 DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIONS To ensure the highest service quality, Kelprojektas consistently invest into advanced solutions, innovations and modern engineering technologies, improve their work processes and advance employees professional skills. Innovations implemented by Kelprojektas during : 1. Modern traffic modelling software solution Kelprojektas was the first in Lithuania to start the application of advanced traffic modelling software PTV VISSIM in road engineering. With the help of this software, it is possible to evaluate precisely transport flows and challenges in a specific section, as well as to foresee how traffic flows will develop in the future. 2. Faster works with the most advanced document management system Kelprojektas currently employs the biggest number of certified Autodesk specialists in the Baltic countries. Currently the company implements one of the world s most advanced documents management system Autodesk Vault, as well as renews the available software. Changes will enable to manage work processes in a faster and easier way and to use all possibilities offered by the design software. The total amount of investment into the software will exceed LTL 2.35 mln. 3. Construction of the first in Lithuania Turbo type roundabout In 2011, the first Turbo type roundabout was built on A9 highway Panevėžys Šiauliai that had been designed by Kelprojektas engineers. This is an innovative solution aimed to ensure high traffic quality and safety of all traffic participants. These roundabouts are built on the most intensive roads where one-lane roundabouts do not ensure the necessary capacity of transport vehicles. 4. Design of the first Diverge Diamond Interchange in Lithuania In 2012, Kelprojektas prepared design solutions for the first diverge diamond interchange in Lithuania which implementation is planned in Kaunas during the reconstruction of the existing Biruliškės interchange. Click here for the visualization Such type interchange is applied to regulate two, especially intensive road traffic flows. There are hardly 20 such type interchanges in the world, the majority of which has been implemented in the United States, and several in France. 5. Design of the first smart interchange with priority for public transport in Lithuania In August 2013, the first in Lithuania smart interchange with priority for public transport has been launched in Kaunas which design had been prepared by Kelprojektas. This interchange in the centre of Kaunas city, on M. K. Čiurlionis Street, had distinguished for especially intensive traffic flows where traffic jams regularly formed scheduled buses exiting the stops had to cross as many as 6 traffic lanes, what caused dangerous situations each time. After the reconstruction, a modern traffic light system was installed; it grants a priority with respect to other traffic participants to scheduled busses turning to M. K. Čiurlionis Street. Drivers of busses stopping in this stop have contactless cards. When a bus approaches the interchange, in response to the cards the system stops traffic on M.K. Čiurlionis Street, lights a green signal for the scheduled transport Turbo type roundabout and allows it to pass without hindrance. Besides, a double system is installed in this interchange if contactless cards do not function, sensors installed in the asphalt pavement stop the heavyweight transport near the bus stop. In 2012, Kelprojektas was recognized the winner in the competition Innovation Prize 2012 of Lithuania in the category Innovative Company Smart interchange with priority for public transport in Kaunas, Lithuania 3

4 MOST ADVANCED SOLUTIONS IN ROAD ENGINEERING Kelprojektas specialists design motorways, streets, intersections, access roads to different purpose objects, etc. Besides, the services of traffic flow modelling are provided. Currently, certified traffic engineers who have completed practice in Germany work with PTV VISSIM software; they are able to evaluate different traffic scenarios and create high- precision models conforming to real traffic. A list of works performed by Kelprojektas consists of over 2,000 various roads designs implemented not only in Lithuania but also in foreign countries. Innovations in road engineering The engineering of roads includes the implementation of the solutions that ensure higher safety. A lot of attention is given to the protection of pedestrians, cyclists, and animals: tracks are built and infrastructure is implemented, which will help to safely cross the road. Solutions, which enable the increasing safety on the roads, are continually improved; therefore, continuous progress is observed in this field. Environmental protection: an increasing regard to the environment is another distinct upheaval of road engineering. Advanced solutions are implemented with a view to reduce noise and air pollution as well as protect wild nature. Reconstruction of the Lithuanian longest highway A1 Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipėda 5
