It a afety device that will hut off the ga if the pilot light goe out or the electric igniter fail. If the pilot light doen t tay lit, the thermocouple may be faulty and hould be adjuted or replaced. To adjut the thermocouple, you mut tighten the thermocouple nut with a wrench. Take care not to apply too much preure to the nut jut tighten it lightly. Then try lighting the pilot. If the pilot won t tay lit, replace the thermocouple with a new one of the ame type.
