Situated in the center of the state, the area is easily accessible by three interstates and is also home to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. ECONOMY & EMPLOYMENT Columbia s employment base is well diversified across several clusters, including health care, education, retail, public administration and manufacturing. The metropolitan area is largely dependent on government, particularly state and local government, as Columbia serves as both the state capitol and the county seat for Richland County.
