2 The Sudbury Horticultural Society would like to invite you to join three special gardening events this month. The Canadian Garden Council and Ontario Horticultural Association have encouraged all Horticultural Societies to offer special gardening activities in their communities during GARDEN DAYS ( and GARDEN ONTARIO WEEK ( - June 10th to 18th. The Sudbury Horticultural Society is sponsoring three special events during that week: AN EVENING WITH DAVID HOBSON - Wednesday June 14th - 7:00 pm David Hobson is a very popular gardening speaker from Southern Ontario who has written two books of humorous garden stories -- Soiled Reputations, and Diary of a Mad Gardener. He also writes a popular gardening column for his local newspaper and has a garden blog (HOBSON'S GARDEN - Join David on a light-hearted and informative journey to the heart of gardens. See magic and mystery while exploring the essential qualities discovered therein -- inspiration, creativity, patience... and humour. Tickets ($10 ) for the event are available at Backyard Birder and the Lexington Hotel, as well as Azilda Greenhouses, Freskiw Farms, Holla's Produce and Greenhouses, and Southview Greenhouse Growers. If you would prefer to purchase tickets online with a credit card please go to: For those who are interested, the Lexington Hotel will be offering a special buffet dinner on that evening, before the presentation begins. Contact the Lexington Hotel for more details about the cost of the dinner. DON'T MISS THIS SPECIAL EVENT! GARDENING BEE AT THE HOSPICE - Thursday June 15th - 9:00 am Each year, volunteers from the Sudbury Horticultural Society and Sudbury Master Gardeners help to weed and mulch the extensive gardens at the Sudbury Hospice in preparation for the summer season. This is your opportunity to show your support for the great work done by our hospice (located next to Laurentian University). If you would like to take part and need more information please Wayne Hugli at: whugli@hotmail.com WILDFLOWER WALK WITH SARAH WOODS - Saturday June 17th - 10:00 am Naturalist Sarah Woods (from the Junction Creek Restoration Committee) will take us on a leisurely walk along the Rotary Park Trail in New Sudbury to share the many native plants that are growing along this beautiful walkway. We will gather in the parking lot at the Adanac Ski Hill to begin this enjoyable nature hike. We invite you, and all of your gardening friends to join us for one (or all) of these special events to celebrate gardening in Greater Sudbury!

4 Comments Like This Make it All Worthwhile! Wayne would like to share some comments and s he received after the Gardening Festival event. Sharon from Burnt Things: "Hi Wayne and all the organizers of today's event. I just wanted to thank you all for the fantastic day. It was my best sale ever and the best part was the friendly helpful people I met. Thank you for inviting me it was a pleasure to attend. Amazingly well-planned and executed running of every aspect of the day. The student volunteers were helpful and friendly as well. Great job and thank you." Thank You! I would like to express my appreciation to all of our volunteers and visitors for their support for the Festival. The hours spent by each and every one of you are invaluable to the success of an event. The help provided by the students, as well as the Board members, Society members, and Master Gardeners, was much appreciated. Everyone did a fantastic job thank you! Also, thank you to the generosity of the gardeners who donated wonderful perennials to the plant sale it was the most successful sale to date. Wayne Hugli Marianne Kowal the ONE soapshop: Thanks for sharing the great pictures! I must say this event was spectacular, the organization was outstanding and the volunteers and members were also amazing. As I mentioned to you, this was the best event I have ever attended. The fact that refreshments were on hand for the vendors also was a generous and thoughtful gesture. Thank you once more for accepting me as a vendor and already I am looking forward to this Festival next year. Kind Regards Garden Art by Sheryn: "Big shout out to the wonderful young people for all their help, they were wonderful. Just had a look at all the photos...wow Lisa sure was busy...very nice...so have a great summer and many thanks to you and all your crew." Sundridge Horticultural Society: I would like to take a moment to thank you for the hospitality that was extended to our group yesterday. It was a most enjoyable trip and only added to by our side trip to Azilda Greenhouses. The bus was fairly bristling with plants by the time we left Sudbury. Best Regards." Gary Blanchett Thanks to Society photographer Lisa Robinson, photos of the Sudbury Gardening Festival are now posted on the web at: GARDENING-FESTIVAL/ A link to those photos will soon be posted on our Gardening Festival website and Facebook page.
