SUBJ: Fire Department Council Update for January 2017 Fire Department Staffing: Staffing at the end of 2016 totaled 39 of 45 paid on call firefighters. Two firefighters are on medical leave. Tentative dates have been set for the 2017 hiring process. The application process will close April 7t' and the informational event is scheduled for April 11th Fire Department Response: The fire department responded to 55 calls for service in January. Duty crew responded to 6 of those calls on scheduled shifts. Significant Calls included; 1) structure fire on Saddlebrook Trail involving a major loss 26) EMS Calls with ( 7) being responses to motor vehicle accidents with injury. Monthly Training: Training that occurred since my last update; EMS Training Annual OSHA requirements ( lock out tag out, right to know, etc.) Hazardous Materials mandated training SCBA training With the exception of EMS training, the fire department utilized the Target Solutions training platform for on- line training in January and February allowing staff to train at home without reporting to stations for training. This is a major benefit of this program. Other Activities: A county wide After Action Review of the Lake Waconia event was conducted by the CCSO. The review provided helpful input for future events that happen within the county that may involve CCSO, Ridgeview, and multiple fire departments. 2 The Asst. City Manager, Public Works Director and I attended an Emergency Action Plan training hosted by Carver County Emergency Management. The daylong seminar was presented by the Army Corps of Engineers and will assist in future flood event planning for Chanhassen. Several county fire departments met on February 16th with CCSO Dispatching to discuss Computer Aided Dispatch ( CAD) programming. This project will lead to a more flexible dispatching protocol based on the individual needs of the city and move away from a county wide singular protocol for dispatching out the fire service. Monthly Fire Marshal Report Investigations: No report Fire Inspections: Annual fire inspections have begun on the strip malls around the city, they should all be completed by the middle of March.
