4 Situation The Holesfoot Estate is located in the magnificent countryside of the Eden Valley. Approached by quiet country lanes, the nearest village is the picturesque rural community of Maulds Meaburn (less than 1 mile distant), with the ancient Market Town of Appleby, former County Town of Westmorland, some 5 miles to the east. Here there is an excellent range of local amenities including access to the Trans- Pennine A66 trunk route and railway station on the scenic Settle- Carlisle Railway. The M6 (Junction 40) and West Coast Main Line railway are readily accessed at Penrith; Junction 38 (Tebay) is 10 miles distant. Positioned between the Lakes and Dales National Parks, the area offers a wide variety of activities ranging from grouse shooting on the Pennines to sailing on Ullswater. The immediate area has many fine walks and bridleways for horse-riding. Directions From Appleby-in-Westmorland head south-west on the B6260 towards Orton. After approximately 3 miles turn right, signposted Kings Meaburn. Proceed and take the first turning on the left-hand side (Brackenslack Lane) towards Maulds Meaburn. The second driveway on the left leads to Holesfoot. If approaching from the south leave the M6 at Junction 38 (Tebay) and head towards Appleby. After 2 cattle grids and approximately 10 miles turn left for Kings Meaburn, then take the first left. The second driveway on the left leads to Holesfoot.
