4 THERMAE BATH SPA RESORT PROJECT TYPE Hospitality Design LOCATION Hulu Tamu Hot Springs, Selangor, Malaysia. SITE ANALYSIS Hulu Tamu hot springs is located in a remote town of Selangor state, one hour away from the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is often visited by the locals and visitors from the city. However, the hot springs are not properly maintained and lack sanitary stewardship. The surrounding environment is slowly poluted by the overflowing spring water from its source, which floods the land and causes plants to die. OBJECTIVES To accomodates health and wellness, and short-term lodging facilities for customers to experience hydrotherapy treatments and achive the true definition of Salus-Per-Aqua (healing with waters). To overcome the existing environmental issues of the site and allow the resort to make full use of the natural and mineralrich hot springs water.

7 RECEPTION COUNTER DESIGN CONCEPT Healing Waters: a vivid exploration of water therapy. The resort focuses on the customers experience of the healing power of the water. The design concept is inspired by the estatic immersion when human body immerged in water. The purity of the water evokes spirits, cleanses our mind, body and soul. THIRD FLOOR SCALE 1:250

9 CAFE IDEA DEVELOPMENT The interior spaces are inspired by the shape of the water turbulence created by movements. Reflective materials like Epoxy coat on the concrete floor, tinted glass and polished marble tiles are applied. SPA SHOP SPA LOUNGE EAST-WEST BUILDING SECTION SCALE 1:250

10 CONSULTATION AREA OUTDOOR MINERAL POOL The pool is located very close to the main source of the hot springs for direct underground channeled fresh water.

11 ROOFTOP WAITING AREA The open roof structure promotes natural sunlight and air ventilation. REHYDRATION LOUNGE SPA TREATMENT ROOMS The foldable partitions between two treatment rooms act as colapsible walls, making two rooms one, allowing two guests to enjoy spa treatment together at the same time. The curved ceiling is created using thermoformable material.

12 KAMOGAWA POINT PROJECT TYPE Architectural Structure Design LOCATION Sanjo Ohashi on Kamogawa River, Kyoto, Japan. PROJECT TEAM Madison Silva, USA Poo Voon Kent, Malaysia Zheng Han John, Singapore Nami Morita, Japan Aya Sasaki, Japan CONCEPT Designing a meeting point in Kyoto city to allow busy pedestrians to stop what they are doing for a few minutes and remind themselves of the valuable moments in their lives. The idea is inspired by the moment when a kimono painter envision the final product just before he starts his work. The moment in time when the past connects with the future. Skills of the past to weave the future.

13 ELEVATION TOP VIEW THE STRUCTURE Supported by the existing pillars of the old Sanjo Ohashi bridge, Kamogawa Point moves away from the history of the old bridge, while retaining the origin of the river.

14 THE STAIR Unfinnished drawings along the stair represent the process of Kimono painting, leading audiences to the center point where spots of colors are seen, which signifies the near of the end result. The Obi-shaped roof filters direct sunlight in the summer and provides the audiences shelter in the winter. CENTER POINT The center point functions as a meeting point. Set above the middle of the bridge and the river, this spot reflects the contrast of the busy lives and the calm water. Every second is different and unique, each with its own moment. The giant clock on the floor of the center point represents this factor through its vigorous movements and ever-changing axis. The audiences cannot tell the time from any direction they stand. They are to lose sense of time and to think of their own important moments in life.

16 NOLITA CAFFETTERIA PROJECT TYPE Restaurant Design LOCATION Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. AWARD Winning design of Project New York 2010 design competition BUILT Viva Home Mall, 85 Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. DESIGN CONCEPT Inviting New York City into the interior as well as the exterior, let guests be surrounded by the skyline formed by the New York skyscrapers. The city s skyline is the fingerprint of the city, a physical representation of the city s fact of life. The skyline is seen as symbolic of the city s influence and economy, closely associated with the identity of the city. OBJECTIVES To design a space with a sophisticated and vibrant environment where people enjoy their meal and coffee. The theme of the design competition is New York City.

19 REVISED DESIGN My design won the competition. To fit the design into the new site, changes are made to fulfill the client s requirements. This included minimalizing the design, increasing the amount of seats and proposing more cost-saving materials. A new name is also given to the cafe - Nolita Caffetteria.

20 ADVERTISING AGENCY PROJECT TYPE Commercial Office Design LOCATION Kuala Lumpur City Center, Malaysia. OBJECTIVES The advertising agency s mission statement is to achive its vision in developing ideas and creative solutions for a better future, capturing corporate interests in a coordinated, integrated and persuasive manner. To creatively develop innovative concepts for future work space that reflects the company s creativity and corporate identity. AD PRODUCTION PROCESS CONCEPT The design concept is to animate the space, composing animations and movements into the interior space. Animation is very commonly used in advertising. The rapid display of sequence of 2D / 3D images of model position creates visual movement and optical illusion of motion. Like advertisment construction process, animation communicates with the audiences with its message in every single frame.

22 RECEPTION AREA GALLERY The gallery, conference room, work area and breakout mezzanine are located at the center of the interior space. The space areas are arranged from smaller to larger, an animation of an expanding object. This also represents the office operation and the process of the ad production cycle. WORKSTATIONS

23 CONFERENCE ROOM Flexible rotating doors provide wide openings for quick gathering. The graphic on the doors create visual movements. BREAKOUT MEZZANINE The office rooms is an animation of a bouncing ball. UNFOLDED ELEVATION
