2 Introduction My name is Patrick Steenbergen. I m a post graduate architectual student at the Hogeschool Rotterdam. My passion for creating things is been there since I was born. The moment when I graduated high-school I desided to study industrial product design at the technical university in Delft. After a one and a half year I concluded that it was not the study I really wanted to do. I desided to go to the Hogeschool Rotterdam and start a study in engineering. I started here to enhance my technical knowlegde of building a building before I wanted to design a building. In graduation year I enrolled in the minor Architecture, this was always the goal I wanted from the beginning. Now i m at the start of creating a style of architecture of my own. My passion related to architecture have always been the human size. It is going to be used mostly by humans so the scale of the design related to humans is most critical in my opinion.

4 the Müller culture This project is bringing people between 13- and 23 years old together to create or enhance their interest in art. The Müllerpier Rotterdam is going to be the new place to let the creativity flow for the next 10 years. This centre provides a save and secure environment for young people to express themselfs and create or enhance their interest in different forms of modern art.

5 The goal was to create one main open area were all the visitors can see and interact with the surrounding activities. To reach this open area the whole building is completly surrounded accept for the small entrance and the diffrent peeking holes. These peeking holes are inviting the targeted children to peek inside and see what is happening. because of the small entrance it is not immediatly clear where to go inside so the visitors really need to search to find it. This enhances the effect of the peeking holes of you wanting to go inside to find out what is happening.

8 Farmland Suriname foundations education centre In this project the Farmland Suriname Foundation wants to create an hotel & education centre to learn more about the opportunities in sustainable farming. The main question was: How can an opportunity be created for the people of Suriname to have a pleasant stay in the middle of Suriname and learn more about Eco-farming to create a more sustainable Suriname?

9 By analyzing different target groups I concluded that it would be best for this centre to focus on primary school children and local farmers. The school children are in the beginning of their learning curve and it would be interesting to give them an opportunity to explore the farming culture. On the other hand, the local farmers need to compete with each other and this information centre provides them with new knowledge about farming exploration KNOWLEDGE farmland COMMON

10 common connection area common separation area common outdoor space no connection at the fare end two common areas with a common outdoor space separated but connected I wanted to create a building where the complete program was integrated in one unity. To do that I went looking for different type of connections between the three areas, the common area, the exploration area and the knowledge area. After a few steps an interesting shape was created where all area s have an equal right. The two common areas physically connect the exploration and knowledge area. When entering the building, there is the choose between going left or right to each of the different areas. Because of the open structures of the areas you automatically come in touch with the other side of the building when walking through those areas. Exploration consist of a game-like environment for children to be taught about eco-farming on a playful way. Knowledge consist of an different expositions by companies who already are participating in sustainable way. This way local farmers and other people who are interested can see how farming can be done in a different way that their used to.

11 One of the features of this building is the interaction with the outside. Because Suriname has a ideal climate to do things outside instead of inside I wanted to enhance this interaction by let the building disappear step by step. 1- enclosed structure 2- roofed structure 3- no structure

12 Oekelse Kubus First project I did. regarding architecture, was a project for a villa in the woodlands of the Oekelse bossen. This villa had to be designed for the school principle. It was a villa which had to include the standard programs. The exceptionality of this villa was that it had to have an art-gallery/studio for the principles wife.

13 The floorplan is divided in a living space and office next to the art-gallery which is surrounded by a pond. The livingroom has a slightly shed roof. This roof gets your view toward the treetops in the garden.

14 Because o f municipal decisions there was a maximal amount of square and cubic meters which could be build on the site. When putting half of the building below ground I could create more square space when still following the regulations. Below ground the programs who required less daylight are situated. these are the master bedroom with connecting bathroom and two smaller bedrooms for their children. These bedrooms share a common bathroom. Light is let in the rooms by a graduate slope towards the windows of the bedrooms. When waking up underground and slowly rise towards the surface during the beginning of the day and at the end of the day descend back in the ground gives a safe and natural feeling
