Internship: ARKEN Arkitekter, Stockholm supervised by Jaime Montes. > Participation in the urban conference in Järfälla municipality, May The project deals with a better relation between city and nature, how urban development can improve the qualities of both the existing villa areas and their green interface with nature as an alternative to sprawl and the construction of new isolated city bubbles. 8 Material Systems A process-oriented approach and a toolbox methodology. Design master s thesis, K.T.H 2013 supervised by Helen Runting & Meike Schalk. Using a process-oriented approach and utilizing a toolbox methodology for maintaining and enhancing the specific characteristics of Gerani district in Athens. The project aims to recombine the area s built and human potential and manufacturing tradition with innovation, in order to create a smallscale production hub. It proposes the administration of resources in common and puts forward appropriate tools for active involvement of inhabitants, owners and newcomers alike. The issues raised under review are the typology, morphology and function of habitation in the center of a vast and complex metropolis like Athens. Internship: EUZEN Architecture 2011 > ECOWEEK Workshop 2011: Urban Communities + Green Architecture. > Honorable Mention by Modern Atlanta Design Award The aim is a healthy, energy efficient and self-sustained house providing wellness to its inhabitants. According to the philosopher Socrates a building should be open to the sun to absorb solar energy from the intense winter sunshine and store it for night heating needs, when temperature drops. Northern elevation should be smaller to protect from cool winter winds. Summer is hot with significant temperature drop at night. Architecture should avoid direct sunlight in that season. Low night temperatures can cool buildings through natural ventilation and cover the day cooling loads. The Socrates House - Internship 16

17 Context/ Concept/ Intention SOMMAR VINTER Winter in northern Greece is considered to be mild with intense day sunshine and lower temperatures during the night. Summer days are hot but the temperature decreases significantly during night hours. The Socrates House - Internship 17

20 The urban park as a social conglomerate. A former camp turned into an open public space. Landscape Design Studio, A.U.Th 2009 (4th year) Supervised by: Maria Ananiadou Tzimopoulou, Professor The study site is located northwest of Thessaloniki and consists of 68,9 Ha. There are adequate masses of green, which together with a creek on the eastern side of the site construct an interesting set of natural capacity. By identifying the existing characteristics of the site, the proposed linear routes relate to them and ease the orientation within the site. Two different scales are applied: One of neighbourhood character in the south-western part and one of more rural character as moving towards north-east. Landscape Studio - A.U.T.h 20

24 Small scale hotel. Designing a recreational complex in the outskirts of the city. Architectural design studio, A.U.Th 2008 (3rd year) Supervised by: Edward Castro, Professor The studio includes all the design phases, from concept design to construction details and a variation of scales from 1:500 to 1:5. The aim is to achieve a simple structure morphologically in respect to the natural topography of the area. The curves of the terrain are thus highlighted by cantilevers which are essentially a continuation of the natural ground, so that the building ultimately interacts harmoniously with it. 25 Two vertical elements interrupt the horizontality of the complex as a whole, in order to signify and facilitate entrances and basic movements within space. The first relates to the entrance of the reception lobby and the restaurant and it simultaneously bears the vertical communication towards the room wings by means of a stairway enclosure and an elevator.
