Prospect Avenue Clarendon Hills, Illinois MEMORANDUM TO: Downtown Design Review Commission FROM: Dan Ungerleider, Community Development Director DATE: April 6, 2018 RE: DOWNTOWN DESIGN REVIEW - COMMUTER STATION AND SHELTERS In 2016 the Village Board commissioned FGM Architects to draft a public facilities study to determine the physical needs of the Village s existing facilities. One of the reported results was that the Village s commuter station and shelter system are in dire need of repair and/or replacement. Since that time the Village Board has commissioned Legat Architects to develop conceptual layouts and budget estimates, and based on that information, to develop conception designs for new facilities along both the inbound (south) and outbound (north) platforms. Attached are the two alternative design concepts under considered of the Village Board. Both designs were developed to meet current commuter station standards per METRA and BNSF design standards and goals, while being conscious of its financial impact on the community. Each design takes a different approach in forming a gateway into the Village and identifying with the landscape of the downtown. Requested Action. Given that the commuter station is located within the Downtown Design Review Overlay District, the Village Board is requesting the Downtown Design Review Commission to review, refine if necessary, and recommend one of the alternatives for formal consideration and potential action by the Village Board. cc: Even Menk, Senior Associate/Technical Director for Legat Architects
