9 Projects In Progress Airport Way - Garfield School Gym Renovation Plaza Horace Washington: Circular mosaic tile insets into the entryway plaza will show waterway maps to the Delta between Stockton and San Francisco. Status: under construction, to be installed Winter/Spring 2010 El Dorado Bridge Railing Enhancements - Treasure Ships Susan Cooper: Phase II of the El Dorado Street Beautification project will include the replacement of the old chain link fence on the bridge, with a ship s prow designed railing, reminiscent of the shipping which predominated in the Delta history and the Gold Rush era. Status: Done and in storage. The Joan Darrah Promenade Project - Banners, Gateway Finials, and Benches Wayne Chabre: All art projects will be integrated with the design of the Marina and coordinated by Power Engineering, Gamboni Landscape Architects and the Public Art Manager. Status: pending

10 Projects In Progress Thornton Road Widening - Transcending Vessel Michael Clapper: Three vessels representing past, present and future Waterway travel of the Delta, will be mounted on tall Steel tule reeds and connected by a steel ribbon of water. These will be sited on the porkschop at Estate and Thornton. Status: Installations expected late 2010 Davis Road Bridge at Pixley Slough- Bridge Railings Eric Powell: Railings designs for the bridge over Pixley Slough will feature historic farm tools and implements used in this area. Status: Installation date to be determined I-5 French Camp Interchange Project Steven Weitzman: Design team commission for underpass and overpass art elements. Designs will include topographical Delta water way designs and regional flora and fauna designs on the wing walls. This project may include revolutionary wind turbine power generators, if the proposal is satisfactory to the COS. Status: Installation will occur late in construction phase

11 Projects In Progress North Stockton Railroad Underpass & Bridge Replacement Project Vicki Scuri: Design team commission for five individual projects within the design plan for the Eight Mile Road improvements. Design will be in development for approximately three years. Artists work will be integrated with engineering and landscape design. Status: Construction Documents Hammer Lane Improvement Phase IIIB- The Great Combine Wayne Chabre: A sculpture project representing a fantasy vehicle based on a fire engine, harvest combine, delta paddle boat. To be installed at the porkchop area of Alexandria and Hammer Lane. Contract completed January Status: Installation expected late 2010 early 2011.

13 2009/2010 Projects Decarli Plaza - Anchored - In May 2004 council approved $125,000 request for artist proposal. Artist and concept selected however project did not move forward. - In 2009 PAAC issues a new RFP with revised budget of $225,000, twelve artist applied. Four finalist were selected to submit design proposals. After two rounds of proposals, the jury selected Diana Pumpelly Bates and Steve Petrushka as the artist for DeCarli Plaza. - PAAC has accepted the recommendation and has included this project in the 2009/2010 Annual Art Plan. - Action: Council to approve and accept both the Annual Art Plan and $225,000 contract for construction of Public Art installation at DeCarli Plaza. - Funding from Public Art Fund.

14 2009/2010 Projects Mural Project - Two Mural Projects not to exceed $100,000 - Murals will enhance underpasses which are now dark and prone to graffiti. - Underpass being considered by PAAC are Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd (between Stanislaus and Airport),Miner, and Wilson Way at Hazelton. - To be financed by the Public Art Pooled funds account. Status: Expected RFP to be issued summer Installation fall/winter 2010.

15 Recommendations Adopt the Annual Public Art Plan prepared by the Public Art Advisory Committee and approved by the Stockton Arts Commission. Adopt a resolution awarding a contract in the amount of $225,000 to Diana Pumpelly Bates and Steve Petrushka to design, fabricate, and install the public art project at Dean DeCarli Plaza as recommended by the Public Art Advisory Committee.
