2 The Facilities & Services 2013 Service Guide is designed to explain basic services provided by the organization to campus facilities. The description of services outlined in this document are intended to provide a general overview and are subject to change. While this guide may reference a funding source for specific types of services, this information describes typical funding sources and may change depending on the type of facility, the requesting unit and the nature of the request. Services which are designated as the responsibility of Facilities & Services will be scheduled as funding and staffing levels permit. Services which have been deferred or postponed due to funding or staffing shortfalls may be requested at the expense of the requesting unit/department. For further assistance with requesting any service from Facilities & Services, contact your designated Maintenance Zone Supervisor, Construction Superintendent or the Service Office at
3 ALARM SYSTEM REPAIRS - FIRE ALARM F&S maintains the fire/sprinkler systems in general fund buildings and with customer authorization in non-general fund space. ALARM SYSTEM REPAIRS-BURGLAR F&S Electricians will maintain/repair burglar alarms at the customers CARD ACCESS DOOR CHIMES (REPAIRS) CHIMES MASTER CLASS BELLS CLOCK REPAIRS - GRANDFATHER AT ALTGELD CLOCKS - (NON-PUBLIC AREA) CLOCKS - PUBLIC AREA DOOR BELLS DOORS - STAND ALONE CARD ACCESS EMERGENCY BATTERY SYSTEMS FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS P.A. SYSTEMS Doors fitted with card access entry are maintained/repaired by F&S & Controls Electricians at customer Chimes at Altgeld Hall are maintained/repaired by F&S Machine Shop For any information or requests (not repairs) in regards to the chimes at Altgeld Hall, contact Ms. Wood at Maintenance and repair of class bells are provided by F&S electricians in general fund buildings. For non-general fund buildings, maintenance and repair is at departmental F&S Electricians maintain and repair the Grandfather clock at Altgeld Hall. Repairs to clocks in non-public areas are done by F&S Electricians at the customers Repairs & maintenance of clocks in public areas such as hallways and auditoriums are performed by F&S Electricians at the expense of F&S. Maintenance / repair of door bells are performed by F&S Electricians at customer Installation and repair of doors with card access is assigned to the F&S Locksmiths at customer F&S Electricians maintain and repair the emergency battery systems in general fund buildings. Batteries for departmental items are maintained by F&S electricians at the department's Fire alarm systems (including cable) are assigned to the F&S Electricians. PA System repairs and maintenance is done by F&S Electricians at customer SECURITY SYSTEMS F&S Electricians maintain and repair security systems at customer SIGNAL CABLE SIRENS - TORNADO Signal cable is maintained and repaired by F&S Electricians. Tornado sirens are repaired, maintained and tested by the F&S and Controls Electricians.
4 GROUP SUBJECT SERVICE SMOKE ALARMS / SMOKE DETECTORS SMOKE DETECTORS - BATTERIES CAMPUS TRAFFIC SIGNALS BARRICADES MISSING OR FOUND BIKE RACKS BIKE PATH MAINTENANCE BIKE PATH SIGNALS DRAINS OUTSIDE OF BLDG BY DOOR DRAINS PARKING LOT (SURFACE STOPPAGE) DRAINS DOCK DRAINS EMERGENCY PHONE LIGHT REPLACEMENT EMERGENCY PHONE REPAIRS F&S Electricians maintain / repair smoke alarms and smoke detectors. Battery operated smoke detectors are repaired by F&S Electricians at customer F&S Electricians maintain the traffic signals at Armory & Sixth, Fourth & Peabody, Fourth & Gregory and Gregory & Sixth. All other traffic signals are maintained by the City of Champaign or the City of Urbana. Report missing or found barricades to the F&S Service Office at If barricades are needed as part of a project, contact your Project Manager. Maintenance of the bike paths on the U of I Campus is performed by the F&S Grounds crew. Facilities and Services Electricians maintain and repair bike path signals on the U of I Campus. drains by entrance doors are cleaned by the F&S Plumbers at F&S expense on general fund buildings. Parking lot drain stoppages are assigned to either F&S Grounds (surface stoppage) or F&S Laborers (drain line stoppage). Dock drains are maintained / repaired by F&S Laborers at F&S expense in general fund buildings. Light replacement in emergency phones is performed by the F&S Laborerelectricians. Repairs and problems with emergency phones should be reported to CITES at FENCE REPAIRS The F&S Ironworkers repair fencing, generally at customer Field tile repairs (collapse, stoppages, etc.) are assigned to the F&S Laborer shop FIELD TILE and may require a department charge number. FIRE HYDRANTS Problems with fire hydrants are routed to the F&S Water Station. FLAG POLE REPAIRS Repairs to flag poles are assigned to F&S Ironworkers. GLASS REMOVAL IN PARKING LOTS Clean up of broken glass in parking lots is directed to F&S Grounds. LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT-EXT ON BLDG F&S Laborer-electricians will replace light bulbs on fixtures attached to the exterior of a building. This is an F&S expense on general fund buildings. LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT OR REPAIRS- EXTERIOR CAMPUS LIGHTS LIGHTS - PARKING LOTS/STRUCTURES MANHOLE COVERS MISSING Replacement of light bulbs as well as repairs to the light fixture on exterior campus lighting such as light poles and sidewalk lighting is done the F&S Electricians and is generally at F&S Light replacement or repairs to lighting in parking lots/structures is assigned to F&S Electricians. If you discover a manhole cover that is missing, contact the F&S Service Office at
5 PARKING LOT SNOW REMOVAL Parking lot snow removal is assigned to F&S Transportation. The F&S Paint Shop will remove pigeon droppings. This is generally an F&S PIGEON DROPPINGS Removal of pigeons outside a building is done by the F&S Water Station and is PIGEON-REMOVAL OF (OUTSIDE BUILDING) generally an F&S POT HOLES ON STREETS & IN PARKING LOTS Contact the F&S Service Office at SIDEWALK REPAIRS Contact the F&S Service Office at SIGNS - TRAFFIC OR ROAD Traffic/road signs are repaired / maintained by F&S Laborers. building ID signs and any request to change a building ID sign must be approved by the Architecture Review Committee. UTILITY LOCATING Contact J.U.L.I.E. at 811. WATER HYDRANTS water hydrants are repaired by the F&S Water Station. WATER MAIN BREAKS The F&S Water Station is responsible for water main break repairs. AUTOCLAVE REPAIRS F&S Pipefitters will maintain/repair autoclaves at customer BLACK BOARD INSTALLATION F&S Carpenters will install black boards at customer Black board repairs are done at customer expense in all areas except General BLACK BOARD REPAIRS Use Classrooms. BULLETIN BOARDS - INSTALLATION The F&S Carpenters will install bulletin boards at customer CAGE WASHERS Cage washers are maintained/repaired at customer expense by F&S Pipefitters. CARPET CLEANING F&S building service workers (BSW) provide routine cleaning of university approved carpet. All other cleaning of carpet is at customer CARPET INSTALLATION CARPET REPAIRS CEILING FANS (CLASSROOM) CLASSROOM CHAIR REPAIRS CLOTH TOWEL DISPENSER REPAIRS CLOTH TOWEL SUPPLIES F&S Construction Services will assist in carpet installation. This service will require a departmental charge number. Carpet repairs are made by the F&S Carpenter Shop and require a departmental charge number. Residential type ceiling fans are maintained/repaired by F&S Electricians at customer F&S Carpenters are responsible for classroom chair repairs. This is an F&S expense in General Use classrooms only. 6 COAT RACK INSTALLATION AND REPAIRS Installation and repair of coat racks is assigned to the F&S Carpenters and requires a departmental charge number. COFFEE MACHINE CLEANING Cleaning of coffee machines is done by F&S Plumbers at customer CONVEYOR BELTS F&S Electricians repair/maintain conveyor belts at customer CURTAINS - CLEANING, REPAIR & INSTALLATION Curtain cleaning, installation and repair is assigned to the F&S Furniture Shop and is done at departmental Desk repairs are assigned to the F&S Furniture Shop and require a departmental DESK REPAIRS charge number. DESK TOP LECTERN REPAIRS DISHWASHER REPAIR DRAPERIES REPAIRS & CLEANING & INSTALL DRYERS ELECTRICAL ELECTRICAL REPAIRS SMALL PORTABLE ITEMS ELECTRONIC SCORE BOARDS EXTENSION CORD REPAIRS & MAKING OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS F&S Furniture Shop makes repairs to desk top lectern. The lecterns used in General Use Classroom space are the responsibility of F&S to maintain. Lecterns used in other areas are considered the responsibility of the department. Repairs to dishwashers are assigned to the F&S Plumbers and require a departmental charge number. Cleaning, installation and repair of draperies is assigned to the F&S Furniture Shop at customer Repairs to dryers are assigned to either the F&S Electricians (electrical dryer) or the F&S Pipefitters (gas and steam dryers) at customer Electrical repairs to small items such as staplers are assigned to F&S Electricians at customer Repairs to electronic score / sign boards are assigned to the F&S Electricians at customer Fabrication or repair of extension cords is done by the F&S Electricians at customer If you would like a fire extinguisher or need an existing extinguisher recharged, contact John Rhoades ( ). All fire extinguishers must be requisitioned and maintained by Code Compliance and Fire Safety. FORK LIFT CHARGING F&S Electricians will charge fork lifts at customer Repairs to and/or disposal of freezers is assigned to the F&S Refrigeration shop FREEZERS REPAIRS AND DISPOSAL OF and requires a departmental charge number. FURNITURE ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION - Assembly and installation of modular furniture (all steel, gunlocke, etc.) is MODULAR performed by the F&S Construction Services at customer Cleaning of upholstered furniture is assigned to the F&S Furniture shop at FURNITURE CLEANING customer FURNITURE MOVING F&S Building Service Workers will move furniture at customer FURNITURE REFINISHING The F&S Furniture Shop will refinish furniture at customer Repairs to furniture (not modular) is performed by the F&S Furniture Shop and FURNITURE REPAIRS requires a departmental charge number. Repairs to modular furniture is assigned to the F&S Carpenter Shop and is a FURNITURE REPAIRS - MODULAR customer GAS OVENS LIGHTING OF PILOT Repairs to gas ovens as well as lighting the pilot light on a gas oven is directed to the F&S Pipefitter Shop and requires a departmental charge number.
7 Maintenance and repair of lab gas valves is assigned to the F&S Pipefitters and is GAS VALVES (LABS) a customer HAIR DRYERS F&S Electricians repair hair dryers at the customers HAND DRYERS INSTALLATION Installation of hand dryers is assigned to the F&S Construction Services and requires a departmental charge number if installation is not within a general fund building public restroom. HAND DRYERS MAINTENANCE F&S Electricians repair existing hand dryers at F&S expense in public restrooms of general fund buildings. A departmental charge number is required for hand dryers elsewhere. HIDE-A-BEDS Hide-a-bed repairs are performed by the F&S Ironworkers on departmental funds. Maintenance and repairs to hoists are performed by the F&S Ironworkers on HOISTS departmental funds. The F&S Machinists will maintain / repair hydraulic tables at departmental HYDRAULIC TABLES ICE MACHINES F&S Refrigeration makes repairs to ice machines at customer INCUBATORS F&S Electricians repair/maintain incubators at departmental If you need keys or copies of keys, the F&S Locksmiths will provide them at KEYS customer Only F&S is authorized to duplicate keys. Repairs on desk or floor lamps is performed by the F&S Electricians at LAMPS DESK OR FLOOR TYPE - REPAIR departmental Replacement of light bulbs on desk or floor lamps is assigned to the F&S Laborerelectricians at customer LAMPS DESK OR FLOOR TYPE - REPLACE BULB F&S Laborers are responsible for cleaning load lugger. A departmental charge LOAD LUGGER CLEANING number is required for this service. F&S Ironworker Shop is assigned the task of repairing load lugger. This service LOAD LUGGER REPAIR requires a departmental charge number. Metal locker repairs are performed by F&S Sheet metal Shop at customer LOCKERS Repair service on this item is performed by the F&S Electrical Shop at customer MICROFILM READERS Repair service on this item is performed by the F&S Electrical Shop at customer MICROFICHE Repair service on this item is performed by the F&S Electrical Shop at customer MICROPHONE REPAIRS Repair service on this item is performed by the F&S Electrical Shop at customer MICROWAVE REPAIRS F&S Building Service Workers move furniture and miscellaneous items at MOVING OF FURNITURE AND MISC. ITEMS customer Moving of extremely heavy items is performed by the F&S Ironworkers at customer MOVING OF HEAVY ITEMS NAME PLATES The F&S Sign Shop provides name plates at customer F&S Pipefitters will maintain/repair oxygen tanks and hoses at the customers OXYGEN TANKS AND HOSES PADDLE WHEELS The F&S Machinists will maintain / repair paddle wheels at customer
8 PALLETS Removal of pallets is performed by the BSW Moving Crew at customer PAPER CUTTERS SHARPENING F&S Machinists will sharpen paper cutters at the customers PAPER SHREDDER REPAIR The F&S Electrical Shop will repair paper shredders at customer For paper towel refills, contact Randy Kornegay ( ), Charles Hassell (333- PAPER TOWEL - REFILLS 3549) or Tod Donley ( ) Installation and/or repair of paper towel holders in areas that are not public PAPER TOWEL HOLDER REPAIRS restrooms are assigned to the F&S Plumbing Shop and require a departmental charge number. These services are an F&S expense in General Use Classrooms only. The F&S Construction Services is responsible for projection screen installation at customer PROJECTORS Repairs to projectors is performed by F&S Electricians at the customers Refrigerator repairs, moving or disposal is performed by the F&S Refrigeration REFRIGERATOR REPAIRS Shop and is done at the customers RUGS CLEANING F&S Building Service Workers will clean rugs at customer RUGS REPAIRS The F&S Furniture Shop will repair rugs at the customers SANITARY SUPPLY MACHINES SUPPLY & MAINT. Contact Randy Kornegay ( ), Charles Hassell ( ) or Tod Donley ( ) for questions or concerns regarding sanitary supply machine products and maintenance. F&S Machinists will sharpen hand and circular saw blades at the customers SAW BLADES SHARPENING (HAND & CIRCULAR) SCALES ELECTRONIC Scale repairs are assigned to the F&S Electricians (electronic) or the F&S Machinists (mechanical) and require a departmental charge number. SCISSOR SHARPENING Sharpening of scissors is done by the F&S Machine Shop at customer Scoreboard maintenance / repairs are assigned to the F&S Electrical Shop and SCOREBOARDS require a departmental charge number. SHELF INSTALLATION AND MOVING F&S Carpenters will install / move shelves at the customers SIGN MAKING Sign making is done in the F&S Sign Shop at customer
9 Installation and repairs on soap dispensers in public restrooms of general fund buildings are assigned to F&S Plumbers at F&S Soap dispensers SOAP DISPENSER REPAIRS & INSTALLATION (installation & repair) in labs, classrooms, lounges, kitchens, etc. require a departmental charge number. Contact Randy Kornegay ( , Charles Hassell ( ) or Tod Donley SOAP DISPENSERS FILLING ( ) to have soap dispensers refilled. SOUND PROJECTORS F&S Electricians repair sound projectors at customer STAGE EQUIPMENT Repairs to stage equipment is assigned to F&S Electricians at customer STERILIZERS (STEAM) F&S Pipefitters repair steam sterilizers at customer Repairs to electric stoves are assigned to the F&S Electrical Shop and are STOVES ELECTRICAL PROBLEM performed at customer Gas stove pilot light problems are routed to the F&S Pipefitters and require a STOVES PILOT LIGHT departmental charge number. Repairs to playground swings are directed to the F&S Ironworkers and require SWINGS PLAYGROUND TYPE departmental funding. TELEPHONE REPAIRS Contact CITES at for telephone repairs on campus. Timer repairs on sports equipment, lighting, etc. is performed by F&S Electricians TIMERS, SPORTING EQUIPMENT at customer TOILET PAPER HOLDERS F&S Plumbers maintain and repair toilet paper holders in the public restrooms of general fund buildings. Toilet paper holders in private restrooms require a departmental charge number. Turnstile maintenance and repair is done at customer expense by the F&S TURNSTILES Machinists. TYPEWRITER REPAIRS Contact Office Machine Repair at VACUUM CLEANERS Vacuum cleaner repairs are performed by F&S Electricians at customer Repairs to vacuum pumps that are exclusive to departmental needs are made by VACUUM PUMPS DEPARTMENTAL the F&S Machinists at customer Lab vacuum system repairs are made by F&S Pipefitters at the customers VACUUM SYSTEMS (LAB) For repairs or issues with vending machines, contact Campus Vending at 333- VENDING MACHINE REPAIRS WASHING MACHINES F&S Electricians repair washing machines at customer WINDOW A/C COVERS F&S Refrigeration will install exterior window a/c covers and the F&S Sheet metal Shop will install interior window a/c covers, both at customer WINDOW A/C REPAIRS AIR COMPRESSORS - BUILDING Window a/c problems such as drainage, not cooling, noisy, filter change, motor problems, odors, won't run and weather stripping issues are assigned to the F&S Refrigeration Shop and require a departmental charge number. F&S Temperature Control maintains the building air compressors in general fund buildings and upon authorization from our customers in non-general fund space.
10 AIR COMPRESSORS - LAB F&S Temperature Control will maintain/repair lab air compressors at customer BALLAST REPAIR/REPLACEMENT F&S Electricians will repair/replace ballasts as needed in general fund buildings and at customer expense in non-general fund space as requested by our customers. **Specialty lighting in general fund buildings are generally the expense of the department and will require a charge number.** BANGING PIPES Contact the F&S Service Office at BATTERY SYSTEMS (WALL PACKS) BELTS ON CONDENSERS & COMPRESSORS BELTS ON FANS BOILERS CENTRAL A/C REPAIRS CIRCUIT BREAKERS - RESETTING CIRCULATING PUMPS COLD CALLS (PART OF BUILDING) Battery operated wall packs on buildings are maintained/repaired by F&S electricians. F&S Refrigeration will change belts on condensers and compressors. Dependent on the piece of equipment, a departmental charge number may be required. F&S Machinists will change belts on fans. Dependent upon what type of fan and/or areas served by the fan, a departmental charge number may be required. F&S Pipefitters maintain/repair boilers in all general fund buildings with the exception of boilers specified for specific departmental use. Boilers for departmental specific use are maintained and/or repaired at customer Repairs to central air conditioning units are made by F&S Refrigeration Shop. A departmental charge number may be required for maintenance / repair of the unit. Contact the F&S Service Office if you need assistance in determining who is financially responsible for the unit. Resetting a circuit breaker (restoring power) is done by F&S Electricians and may be at customer expense depending on what caused the loss of power or if it is a departmental circuit. Maintenance and repair of circulating pumps is done by Facilities and Services Plumbers. A department charge number may be required if the circulating pump is exclusive to departmental use. F&S Temperature Control will look into cold areas of a building. This is generally an F&S expense except in non-general funded buildings. COLD CALLS (WHOLE BUILDING) If an entire building is cold, contact the F&S Service Office at
11 COLD ROOMS COOLING TOWERS Maintenance and repairs to cold rooms are directed to the F&S Refrigeration shop and are at customer Facilities & Services Refrigeration shop is responsible for cooling tower maintenance / repairs. There are cooling towers on the U of I Campus that are the responsibility of the department due to the use of the cooling tower. DIFFUSER (LIGHT) REPLACEMENT & CLEANING DIMMER SWITCHES (CLASSROOM) DIMMER SWITCHES (NON CLASSROOM SPACE) DISTILLED WATER ELECTRICAL OUTAGE PORTION SECONDARY ELECTRICAL OUTAGE WHOLE BUILDING PRIMARY ELEVATOR CEILING LIGHTS ELEVATOR CONTROL LIGHTS EXHAUST FANS IN ELEVATORS EXHAUST FANS IN RESTROOMS FAN BALANCING The F&S Laborer-electricians provide replacement of burned out lights in general illumination fixture and cleaning of said light fixtures. Specialty lighting as well as under-cabinet lighting is replaced and / or cleaned at customer Dimmer lighting switches in General Use Classrooms are repaired at F&S expense by the F&S Electricians. Dimmer lighting switches in areas other than General Use Classrooms are repaired by F&S Electricians at customer Distilled water (lab water) systems are maintained / repaired by the F&S Water Station at the expense of the department. Restoring power to an area or areas of the building is performed by F&S Electricians and may require a department charge number depending what caused the outage. F&S Electricians are responsible for restoring power when an entire building is without power. This is generally an F&S expense in general fund buildings. Replacement of ceiling lights in elevators is performed by the F&S Laborerelectricians and is typically F&S expense in general fund buildings. Replacement of control lights within an elevator is assigned to the F&S Elevator Shop and is an F&S expense in general fund buildings. The F&S Elevator shop will repair exhaust fans in elevators at F&S expense in general fund buildings. Exhaust fan repairs in public restrooms in general fund buildings are performed by F&S Electricians at F&S Balancing of general building fans is done by F&S Sheet metal Shop.
12 FAN BEARINGS FAN MOTOR REPAIRS FLOOR DRAIN STOPPAGES FUME HOOD ISSUES FUME HOODS NOT RUNNING FURNACES GARBAGE DISPOSALS GENERATORS HOT CALLS PARTIAL BUILDING Fan repairs (bearings, belts & oil) are assigned to the F&S Machinists. Fan repairs (motor or fan not running) are assigned to the F&S Electrical Shop. Interior floor drains in buildings are cleared by the F&S Plumbers. Fume hood repairs such as alarms, cleaning, leaking or not venting are assigned to the F&S Sheet metal Shop and require a departmental charge number. F&S Electricians repairs fume hoods that are not running. This repair requires a departmental charge number. Furnace (forced air) repairs (includes unit heaters) are assigned to the F&S Electricians and may require a departmental charge number. Repairs to garbage disposals is routed to the F&S Plumbing Shop and requires a department charge number. Generators are serviced and repaired by the F&S Electrical Shop. A departmental charge number may be required. F&S Temperature Control will look into warm areas of a building. This is generally an F&S expense except in non-general funded building. HOT CALLS WHOLE BUILDING If an entire building is too hot, contact the F&S Service Office at HOT WATER HEATERS HUMIDITY TOO HIGH OR LOW LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT COLD ROOMS Repairs and maintenance of hot water heaters is performed by the F&S Plumbing Shop and may require a departmental charge number. Problems with humidity are assigned to F&S Temperature Control. F&S Laborer-electricians replace the light bulbs in cold rooms at departmental
13 LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT-INTERIOR LIGHT REPAIRS LIGHT SWITCH REPAIRS OUTLETS PILOT LIGHTS IN FURNACE PILOT LIGHTS ON WATER HEATERS Replacement of light bulbs in standard light fixtures is done by the F&S Laborerelectricians in general fund buildings for general illumination.
