The Mansell part of the name is first mentioned in The Book of Fees which contains a reference of to the vill of Hope Mal Oysel, and then Hope Maloisel in Hope Mauncell is listed in the register of parish returns towards the rebuilding of St Paul s Cathedral around 1678.

6 Step outside Streete Farmhouse OUTSIDE The property is approached off the lane on to a shared drive giving access to the parking area, accessed through a pair of timber gates. To the front, stone steps lead on to a flagstone terrace with beds either side containing low clipped box hedging, and on to the impressive canopied entrance door. The gardens to the rear have been landscaped forming individual rooms and the planting used to create a huge amount of seasonal colour, interest and aromas as you wander throughout. Adjacent to the garden room is a two tier flagstone terrace which is perfect for outside dining and entertaining, having an ornamental pond on the upper level. A rivulet runs underneath the terrace from a gully creating a lovely living water feature. From here an expanse of lawn runs around the edge of the plot where there is a timber summer house sitting next to a couple of mature poplars which have been under-planted with spring bulbs. Of particular note is the beautiful circular sunken garden planted with aquilegias and fuchsias featuring a water rill, surrounded by a ring of pleached lime trees. In the corner of the plot along the lane-side is the extensive and very productive kitchen garden, containing greenhouse, glasshouse and potting shed, a 24 polytunnel, cold frame and compost area, with herbs, flowers for picking, a selection of fruit trees, and a variety of soft fruit bushes. Moving back towards the house is a parterre garden formed from low clipped box hedging, with the rivulet running alongside it and continuing beneath the lane to the other side. DIRECTIONS From Ross-on-Wye take the A40 towards Gloucester passing through the village of Weston under Penyard. Just before exiting Ryeford turn right signposted for Pontshill and Hope Mansell and follow this lane for a little under a mile until reaching Parkfields. Turn left signposted for Hope Mansell and continue on the lane for just over a mile until Sutton Barn appears on your left, immediately after turn right up the driveway entrance to the Streete and Streete Farmhouse is straight ahead.
