Attachment D NFPA 484 First Draft CC

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 12-NFPA [ Global Input ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 08:48:22 EST 2012 The Correlating notes that NFPA 484 currently does not contain much guidance on explosion isolation and does not address mechanical conveying systems. The CC asks the TC to review these equipment systems and protection measures and consider how to incorporate requirements going forward within the standard.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 6-NFPA [ Global Input ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 14:21:14 EST 2012 The Correlating asks that the Combustible Metals review this global change regarding the establishment of a permissible layer accumulation threshold. As amended by this annex item and as currently found in the mandatory text for the various metals chapters "fugitive dust shall not be allowed to accumulate" is not enforceable or feasible in all situations.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 2-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 13:11:15 EST 2012 The Correlating believes that additional work is needed in this section to adequately address the concerns raised by Drs. Zalosh and Myers in their negative comments supporting their letter ballot on FR 76. The on Combustible Metals is encouraged to consider their issues when preparing the Second Draft.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 1-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 11:54:30 EST 2012 The Correlating suggests that the Combustible Metals define the terms "metal mixture" and "metal alloy" so the user knows how to apply the standard for these types of materials.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 3-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 13:29:14 EST 2012 The Correlating recommends that the on Combustible Metals review the Figure to ensure that the flowchart decision logic matches the specific requirements contained within the relevant chapters in the standard. The CC also asks the TC to reconsider where is the best place to locate the figure - mandatory text or annex.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM First Correlating Revision No. 20-NFPA [ Section No. 4.1 [Excluding any Sub-Sections] ] The screening test in Section 4.2 or and in Section 4.3 shall be conducted to determine if a metal is in combustible and or explosible form. Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 13:40:44 EST 2012 The Correlating edited this text based on the comments supporting the negative letter ballot on this item. This is an editorial change to clarify the combustibility and explosibility test requirements.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 4-NFPA [ Section No. 4.3 ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 14:01:25 EST 2012 FR-194-NFPA FR-193-NFPA FR-192-NFPA The Correlating suggests that the clarify the flowchart Figure to make it evident for the user that not all tests are required for all situations; as shown now it appears that these are the tests that could be conducted or that must be conducted and that is not clear as currently written.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 11-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 08:17:10 EST 2012 The Correlating requests that the TC review FR No. 191 and 192 regarding added text for paragraphs and that appears similar to determine whether both are required or whether one is redundant. The CC also notes that if the TC determines that the requirement in is to be retained that it might also be included in Section 4.2 for consistency regarding testing for both combustibility and explosibility.

of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 8-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 16:19:22 EST 2012 The Correlating asks the TC to review this paragraph for consistency with FR No. 12 regarding the use of the term "Listed" extinguishing agents.

0 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 13-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 15:37:42 EST 2012 FR-57-NFPA The Correlating recommends that the TC include reference to NFPA 1081, Standard for Industrial fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications. In addition, the TC is asked to review the use of the word "adequate" applied to eye protection and consider explaining what is intended to be adequate eye protection with annex material.

1 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 9-NFPA [ Section No. 6.4 ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 16:30:37 EST 2012 The Correlating asks the TC to review the content of and revise as necessary provisions to comply with the NFPA Manual of Style requirements pertaining to mandatory and commentary text.

2 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 14-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 16:23:49 EST 2012 The Correlating asks the TC to review the content of and revise as necessary provisions to comply with the NFPA Manual of Style requirements pertaining to mandatory and commentary text.

3 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 7-NFPA [ New Section after 6.6 ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 15:22:23 EST 2012 The Correlating requests that the Technical review Chapter 7 for consistency throughout; for example paragraphs and appear to be internally inconsistent with respect to the permissible accumulation of metal dusts and fugitive dusts. Also in paragraphs 7.4.3, 7.6.1, and there are other inconsistencies that appear. See also the Correlating Note No. 6 applicable to FR No. 28. First Revision No. 88-NFPA [New Section after 6.6]

4 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 5-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Wed Nov 28 14:09:12 EST 2012 The Correlating recommends that the on Combustible Metals review the Figure to ensure that the flowchart decision logic matches the specific requirements contained within the relevant chapters in the standard. The CC also asks the TC to reconsider where is the best place to locate the figure - mandatory text or annex.

5 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 15-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 16:34:25 EST 2012 The Correlating recommends that the on Combustible Metals review the Figure to ensure that the flowchart decision logic matches the specific requirements contained within the relevant chapters in the standard. The CC also asks the TC to reconsider where is the best place to locate the figure - mandatory text or annex.

6 of 20 1/3/ :59 AM Correlating Note No. 16-NFPA [ Section No ] Submittal Date: Thu Nov 29 16:38:19 EST 2012 The Correlating recommends that the on Combustible Metals review the Figure to ensure that the flowchart decision logic matches the specific requirements contained within the relevant chapters in the standard.
