Victorian Garden Natural Garden Cottage Garden Classical Garden Contemporary Garden The layout of the Victorian garden relies upon the formality of a circular form and will reflect plant species typical of the period. Evergreen shrubberies will contrast with colourful areas of roses and herbaceous planting all defined by a yew hedge. New tree and shrub planting will be supplemented with informal shrub planting such as red and yellow dogwoods and evergreen holly. Naturalised bulb planting and areas of wildflowers will provide colour in the spring and summer. The Cottage Garden is proposed to include some fruit trees in the form of either apple or pear on the east-facing boundary wall. Structures such as rose arches and a pergola will be included providing the opportunity to plant rambling roses and scented honeysuckle. The classical garden relies upon structure in both the layout and simplicity of planting. A formal path around the perimeter defines a rectangular lawn, reinforced by a yew or box hedge around the outer edge of the garden with spring and autumn bulb planting to introduce seasonal colour. A simple rendered wall will form the backdrop to a small fountain. A timber deck with a low wall will form a small seating area. This will be defined on two sides by timber posts introducing a vertical element into the garden. Planting will rely upon texture and plants with a strong architectural quality.
