The property was originally built in the early 1930s, but over time it has been substantially enlarged and in more recent years beautifully renovated by the current owners. When we began our search for a new home just over six years ago we were keen to find a lovely big family home in a quiet village location, but as my husband was working in the city at the time it was also very important to have good transport links and more specifically an easy commute into London. When we came across this house it just seemed to tick all the boxes. It lies on the edge of the village and enjoys a really beautiful woodland location, so it s peaceful and very private, but at the same time we have a number of lovely little towns within striking distance and the rail and road links are excellent. For us it s been ideal. When the house was originally built it was a rather modest cottage, but over the years it s been sympathetically enlarged by previous owners, and I must say they did an excellent job. It s almost impossible to tell old from new and the layout has been beautifully designed, so the rooms flow really nicely making it very easy and comfortable to live in. The only change we have made has been to the interior design as when we came here the décor was not at all to our taste, so we ve updated it throughout making it lighter and brighter and much more conducive to modern living. In my opinion the garden is a standout feature of the property, and it s something I ll really miss when we leave, continues Lucy. It was designed by a previous owner and it s obvious they knew what they were doing as no matter what the time of year there s always something beautiful to look at. It s a generous space that s edged with a mature border of shrubs and trees, so it s not overlooked, and it s also really easy to look after. My husband and I definitely don t have green fingers, but it always looks lovely. The kitchen/breakfast room is the part of the house that we tend to spend the most time in, says Lucy. It s a lovely big space that opens into the family room, so we can all be together without feeling on top on one another. From the kitchen/breakfast room French doors lead out onto a really pretty raised terrace, says Lucy. It s a lovely place to just sit out and soak in our surroundings. I love the fact that the setting is so peaceful and private, says Lucy, and I also love the fact that we can step out of the front door and walk for miles through some of the most beautiful countryside. Living here, we ve been able to experience the best of both worlds. There s so much that I ll miss about this property, says Lucy.
