It is a traditional house constructed from handmade brick and tiles with Crittall windows and architecture heavily influenced by the celebrated design of Sir Edwin Lutyens Deanery Gardens in Sonning. There are the tall chimneys, gables, guttering and corner windows all reminiscent of the enduring appealing Lutyens style. Standing in a privileged position, Wickenden combines this charming impression with wonderful light-hearted and discrete cricket references throughout. The front door is flanked by two stone pillars in the shape of cricket stumps and these subtle cricket references continue throughout the house with features which are beautifully finished, understated and unique to Wickenden.

7 Ground floor Steps rise to the covered porch and the heavy timber door opens to a most splendid reception hall of some 58 feet, which bisects the house with all rooms leading off. This wonderful entrance passes tall Crittall windows with central french doors to the left opening onto the stepping stones crossing the koi pond. The main hall continues through the house and leads to the oak carved staircase and double height windows at the rear. Wickenden is perfect for formal entertaining as well as informal family life, with interconnecting reception rooms and a grand vaulted drawing room with double height bay windows affording a perfect view straight down the wicket of the cricket ground. This bay window is the signature of Lutyens architecture and creates a most impressive façade as well as interior feature. 10 Gardens and Grounds Wickenden occupies an exceptionally idyllic position with an enviable outlook over formal gardens and across the village cricket ground.
