5 Prologue General Thank you for purchasng the Q-Test. At Crowcon we recognse the need for quck and smple gas test solutons whch are sutable for the challenges of on-ste and off-ste use. Q-Test provdes a quck and smple n-feld gas test and calbraton soluton. Provdng off-ste testng for remote locatons where power s not always avalable or practcal. Smple to use and easy to repeat, Q-Test reduces set-up, tranng requrements and space needed. Flexblty Q-Test manages speedy and smart bumps as well as calbraton. Q-Test can also be easly mounted va dn ral mounts on a wall or nsde a vehcle to gve a gas test soluton for any applcaton. The chargng opton also gves a permanent home to detectors mounted n vehcles and s easly powered va a standard n-vehcle power socket or multregonal power supply. Remote Workers When n the feld, Q-Test provdes confned space workers wth repeatable gas testng solutons that mantan detector ntegrty and safety. When workng n conjuncton wth +ve Safety fleet managers can quckly and easly tell when ste requrements have not been adhered to. Economc Repeatable test solutons that, through recommended gas use nstructons, can offer over 200 speedy bumps from a 34l cylnder and over 330 speedy bumps from a 56l cylnder. 5

6 Safety Informaton Read and understand all nstructons n the operaton secton of ths manual pror to use. Before use ensure that the equpment s n good condton, the enclosure s ntact has not been damaged n any way. If there s any damage to the equpment or t s not workng properly, do not use, read the troubleshootng gude (see page 27) and/or contact your local Crowcon offce or agent for repar/replacement. Observe all warnngs and nstructons marked on the unt and wthn ths manual. Observe ste health and safety procedures for gases beng montored and evacuaton procedures. Understand the Gas-Pro screen dsplay and alarm warnngs pror to use (see Gas-Pro User & Operator Manual). Ensure mantenance, servce and calbraton s carred out n accordance wth the procedures n the manual and only by traned personnel. Gas-Pro s a hazardous area certfed gas detector and as such must be operated and mantaned n strct accordance wth ts nstructons, warnngs and label nformaton ncluded n the Gas-Pro manual. Use only Crowcon suppled Gas-Pro multregon plug or vehcle chargng adaptor. Not sutable for use wth other multregon plugs as these may cause damage to the unt. 6

8 1. Set-up 1.1 Mountng The gas nlet ppe À and gas exhaust ppe Á are long enough to allow placement to the left or the rght of the Q-Test Â, powered Q-Test à or powered Q-Test wth cylnder holder Ä but should be located pror to mountng. Fgure 1: Inlet/outlet locaton À  Á Ã Ä 8

9 The Q-Test can be mounted on a standard DIN ral type EN À or screwed to a sutable flat surface through the 3 holes Á n the module s man body (see below). The recommended length of DIN ral f a Q-Test s to be mounted on ts own, s 150mm. If the Q-Test s to be used n conjuncton wth a cylnder holder, the recommend length of DIN ral requred s 250mm. The recommended length of DIN ral f a Powered Q-Test s to be mounted on ts own, s 275mm (ths s suppled wth the powered Q-Test). If the Powered Q-Test s to be used n conjuncton wth a cylnder holder, the recommend length of DIN ral requred s 350mm. Mount the DIN ral to the wall (flat sde aganst the wall), allowng space on at least one sde to slde the Q-Test on. The cylnder holder s avalable to mount on the DIN ral or drect to the wall. Ensure that when the Q-Test s mounted, the Gas-Pro screen and operator button wll be accessble (see Fgure 7 on page 12). Fgure 2: Mountng the Q-Test Á À 9

10 Contents 1.2 Pror to use Openng the Q-Test Press the release button À and lower the door Á as shown below: Fgure 3: Openng the Q-Test À Prologue Unpackng Á Set-up Operaton Servce and mantenance Specfcaton Troubleshootng There are two open levels, f left to fall the door wll open to 45º. The door can be fully opened by pullng the door down gently Inspecton Warranty Before use, the Q-Test should always be checked for any sgns of physcal damage, payng specal attenton to the flow gasket À, the gas nlet ppe Á and gas exhaust ppe Â. 11 Contents 1.3 Inlet/exhaust connectons The gas cylnder s connected to the gas nlet ppe À and the gas exhaust ppe Á should be connected to a sutable length of ppe that vents to outsde ar. These ppes are long enough to allow placement to the left or the rght of Q-Test Inlet Connectons For non reactve gases Crowcon recommend the use of Tygothane or Tygon 3603 ppe. If ths ppe s used, the maxmum recommended tube length from the regulator to Q test nlet s 30m. Prologue Unpackng Set-up For use wth reactve gases Crowcon recommends the use of Tygothane ppe (AC0301). If ths ppe s used the maxmum recommended tube length form the regulator to Q test nlet s 1m. When usng reactve gases, for correct operaton, all ppe work and regulators should be purged wth the respectve reactve gas. Fxed flow or trgger regulators are requred as the user s responsble for openng the gas flow at the correct tme (when prompted by the Gas-Pro). See accessores secton for detals. Ext 11

13 2.3 Bump test If the Gas-Pro s confgured for Bump/Pump functonalty, then by placng the Gas-Pro n a Q-Test module, the Bump/Pump screen wll be dsplayed (see Fgure 8 below). If the Gas-Pro s a non pumped unt and not confgured for bump test the sensors blocked by flow plate warnng con wll be shown when nserted nto the Q-Test. The Gas- Pro wll need to be confgured for bump to operate correctly n the Q-Test. If the Gas-Pro s a pumped unt and not confgured for bump test the pump wll mmedately start. The Gas-Pro wll need to be confgured for bump to operate correctly n the Q-Test. Accordng to the Gas-Pro confguraton, the user may be asked to choose whch group of gases to bump and ether a Speedy bump or Smart bump test wll be performed (see page 15). 13

14 2.3.1 Bump Test Functonalty As part of the bump testng functonalty Gas-Pro offers the ablty to allocate gas sensors ftted to the Gas-Pro nto dfferent bump test groups. These groups apply to both the speedy and smart bump functonalty. The groups avalable are Daly and Intermttent, these can be confgured va Portables-Pro. Ths allows a dfferent gas test regme to be appled for dfferent sensors nlne wth ste/company procedures. The nformaton below explans ths n greater detal: If the sensors are grouped nto the Intermttent group wth, for example, a 90 day nterval (ths nterval s confgurable n Portables-Pro), Gas-Pro wll nform the user a bump test s due on the 90th day of use. Ths s ndcated by a gas test due warnng on the Gas-Pro screen durng start up. Fgure 9: Gas test due screen Gas-Pro wll not nform the user of a need for a gas test untl the nterval perod from the last successful bump has expred. However on applyng a magnetsed flow plate, or placng Gas-Pro nto the Q-Test, the user wll be gven the opton to complete a gas test (or proceed to pumped operaton). If the sensors are grouped nto the Daly group, the Gas-Pro wll nform the user a bump test s due at the start of each workng day (actually every 24 hours). Ths s ndcated by a gas test due warnng on the Gas-Pro screen durng start up. If Gas-Pro s turned off and on agan wthn 24 hours of the gas test, the Gas-Pro wll not nform the user of a need for a bump test. However on applyng a magnetsed flow plate, or placng Gas- Pro nto the Q-Test the user wll be gven the opton to complete a gas test (or proceed to pumped operaton). 14

15 2.3.2 Speedy bump A speedy bump tests the Gas-Pro to frst alarm level. Gas s presented across/over the sensor for a desgnated tme (dependent on sensor gas type) durng whch alarm level one should be actvated. Ths s deemed a pass f the detector goes nto alarm and the detector s functonng (sounder, LED s and vbrator, verfed by the user). It s a fal f the detector does not go nto alarm Procedure XX Place the Gas-Pro n the Q-Test module. XX Clck the operator button to hghlght Bump test. XX The screen wll show Gas on. The test wll end before the preset tme f all gases beng tested pass. * Smart bump A smart bump tests that the Gas-Pro responds correctly to a specfed level of test gas. Gas s passed over/across the sensors and a predcted response s expected wthn a tme wndow dependant on the sensor response tme. The test s passed f the gas level ndcated by the detector s wthn pre-specfed lmts wthn ths tme wndow (the parameters of ths test are confgurable va Portables-Pro) Procedure XX Place the Gas-Pro n the Q-Test module. 16 2.3.4 Calbraton after bump fal If any channel fals speedy bump or smart bump then Gas-Pro can be confgured (va Portables-Pro) to perform a calbraton after bump fal mmedately after the test falure. As ths test mmedately follows a speedy or smart bump, f calbraton after bump fal s confgured the speedy or smart bump test wll need to undertaken wth calbraton qualty gas. Ensure the gas appled matches the confguraton settngs n the Gas-Pro or the test wll fal. Ths can be done va Portables-Pro. Should a flammable sensor be ftted, check the label for the orgnal calbraton target gas Procedure Calbraton should only be performed wth approprately accurate gas. If calbraton s ntended the nstrument should have been zeroed manually wthn 15 mnutes pror to the calbraton attempt. Followng a bump test falure, leave the nstrument n the Q-test module and the gas on. Wat for the calbraton result screen ndcated by the or. Fgure 10: Gas test due screen The Gas-Pro then returns to normal operaton. Durng ths process the new calbraton values are stored to the nstrument memory and the calbraton dates are advanced by the confgured nterval commonly 1 month as the Gas-Pro has not been through a formal servce/calbraton routne (dependant upon regon/settng). If the gas test calbraton fals ths may be ndcatve of a more serous sensor ssue, ncludng the need to replace sensors. The nstrument should then be servced. 16

17 2.4 New sensor calbraton/servce Servcng or the ftment of a new sensor can only be undertaken by a sutably traned techncan usng the PC software and the approprate gases. In addton calbraton should be performed as requred by local or organsatonal regulatons. In the absence of sutable evdence, such as a feld assessment by a competent person, Crowcon recommend regular servce and calbraton every 6 months. 2.5 Gas Test Screen Flow The followng sequence of screen shots should be vewed wth reference to the sectons on Speedy Bump, Smart Bump & Calbraton after bump fal. The screen shots show the general flow of the gas test functonalty dependant upon the actual test and the decsons made. 18 2.6 Q-Test Gas Sutablty The followng gases are sutable for use wth the Q-Test: Oxygen Carbon Monoxde Hydrogen Sulphde Carbon Doxde Sulphur Doxde (Reactve gas) Methane Butane Propane Pentane Acetylene Ethylene Ammona (Reactve gas) Ntrogen Doxde Ntrc Oxde Ozone (Reactve gas) Chlorne (Reactve gas) Chlorne Doxde (Reactve gas) 2.7 Gas Testng Requrements/Recommendatons When usng reactve gases all ppe work and regulators should be purged wth the respectve reactve gas. Crowcon recommend usng a typcal flow rate of the test of 0.5 ltres per mnute. When usng chlorne and chlorne doxde as the test gas the typcal flow rate should be ncreased to 1 ltre per mnute. Chlorne doxde gas testng (or calbraton) must only be carred out usng a chlorne doxde generator. Crowcon recommend Advanced Calbraton Desgns, nc. Gas Generator, model: CAL2000 (P/N: AT), usng the Chlorne Doxde Cell (P/N: ). Refer to generator nstructons for use. Ozone gas testng (or calbraton) must only be carred out usng an ozone generator. Crowcon recommend Analytcal Technology, nc. Ozone Generator, Model: A Refer to generator nstructons for use. 18

19 2.8 Test Gas Requrements For each type of gas test that can be undertaken by Q-Test; speedy bump; smart bump and calbraton after bump fal, Crowcon recommend the followng gas levels. Care should be taken to ensure Gas-Pro s confgured correctly such that the gas levels appled are sutable for the test to be undertaken, the confguraton can be verfed va Portables Pro. If Gas-Pro s not confgured correctly for the gas to be appled, then the test wll not be successful Speedy Bump Recommended Gas Levels Table 1 shows the recommended mnmum and maxmum concentraton of gas sutable for a Gas- Pro confgured to undertake a speedy bump test when nserted nto a Q-Test. Troubleshootng Symptom Gas-Pro does not go nto bump mode Gas-Pro does not pass the bump test Gas-Pro does not charge (Powered Q-Test only) Acton Table 6 Ensure the Gas-Pro s on and confgured to bump test. Ensure the gas s correct for the Gas-Pro type presented. Ensure the gas s manually turned on for the duraton of the test. Check the gasket for any sgns of damage or wear and tear. Ensure the door s fully closed. If the Gas-Pro stll fals t s very lkely that the Gas-Pro requres calbraton. Check power supply s turned on and connected. Check that chargng contacts are not damaged and are clean 27

If wthn the warranty perod of two years from despatch, the equpment s proved to be defectve by reason of faulty workmanshp or materal, we undertake at our opton ether to repar or replace t free of charge, subject to the condtons below.
