This field has its own entrance on to Castlehaw Lane, and affords magnificent panoramic views of the nearby motte and bailey castle and the surrounding fells. Japanese Knotweed: a historical colony was detected in the woodland area and virtually eradicated by a registered weed control contractor some years ago, and any residual growths which occasionally occur in some woodland areas in spring are immediately treated with the recommended selective herbicide (Tordon 22k) and later removed and burned.
