3 DECO DREAM When this couple purchased their late- Georgian period home, they wanted a decadent and luxurious master ensuite bathroom to relax and unwind in -- and that s exactly what Kaizen Furniture created for them THE owners Mr & Mrs Parker-Ellis are business executives working in London, and they live in this five-bedroom, fivebathroom home in Surrey The Statuario marble is as practical as it is beautiful and helps to create a light feel to the room

4 REAL HOME REAL HOME 34 There is more than enough space and storage for two within the bright and welcoming ensuite Working and living in central London had become somewhat of a bind for Mr and Mrs Parker-Ellis. They had reached a point in their life where they wished to escape the hustle and bustle of city life in their free time. Now that their children had all fled the nest they were in a position to move to nearby Surrey and commute in to the office as and when required. Their property search turned up a very late, classical Georgian property (circa 1833) designed by the architect Decimus Burton. Once a grand house, the home had succumbed to both the ravages of time and tasteless 1970 s and 80 s improvements and décor; the home required a complete renovation to include a new roof, electrics, plumbing, as well as a full interior refit. We could see the potential and the house not only represented an architectural style that we both loved, and in an ideal area, but also enough space and facilities for when family and friends visit, says Mrs Parker-Ellis. Working with the architects and interior designers, Kaizen Furniture designed the furniture throughout the capacious property which included living rooms, home office, billiards room, kitchen and five ensuite bathrooms including the master ensuite pictured here. 99

6 REAL HOME 102 As the homeowners personal relaxation space, they were keen to have their master ensuite in Art Deco style a design genre that she and her husband both love. Kaizen s bespoke design and manufacturing flexibility meant a master en-suite could be created to suit their exact needs and tastes. The large walkin shower cubicle is lined with luxurious Statuario marble, with integrated shelving, which flows through to the room s flooring with its Art Deco period motif inlaid in contrasting, coloured stone. The ellipsoid shaped bath, ideal for when there is more time to relax and enjoy a long bathe, features a special liquid metal finish to the exterior with a Statuario marble top surround. Kaizen created a one-off, combined his and hers vanity unit with dual, under-mounted basins and a Statuario marble top, for design continuity. The vanity frontage features reeded glass with a specially antiqued mirror backing and nickel edge trimming above and below. The vanity interior inside is a thing of great splendour, crafted from solid maple and featuring bolon drawer linings. A large, fullwidth custom mirror above the vanity, reflects the natural light streaming in through the windows. The Duravit 1930s WC and bidet are perfectly in keeping with both the period and light and airy style that Kaizen created. Mrs Parker-Ellis says: I love what the Kaizen team have done. They have created a gorgeous, light and luxurious relaxation space to an exceptionally high standard, typifying the work they have done throughout our home. It literally feels like it s part of the building s fabric and will last for generations!
