5 Situation Little Missenden is a quintessential English village which lies within the picturesque Misbourne Valley surrounded by miles of glorious Chiltern countryside, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are two popular country pubs within the village, The Red Lion and the Crown, together with a Saxon church with parts dating back to around 975 AD. The village has been used for many films and TV programmes over the years particularly as one of the more regular Midsomer Murders filming locations. Missenden House featured as Dibley Manor in the popular Vicar of Dibley series. The village is located off the A413, equidistant between Amersham and Great Missenden, both of which are about three miles away. Both centres offer multiple shopping facilities, restaurants and amenities, together with the Metropolitan Line (Amersham) and Chiltern Line (Amersham & Great Missenden) stations offering a frequent London commuter service to Baker Street and Marylebone respectively. The area is renowned for its excellent educational facilities including Dr Challoner s Grammar School for boys in Amersham and High School for girls in Little Chalfont. Little Missenden Description Missenden House is a magnificent double fronted Grade II Listed Georgian residence, a landmark property within a picturesque Chiltern village, close to the historic market town of Old Amersham. Originally built in 1729 as a classic Georgian box for Jonas Deacon, a prosperous East India merchant. It was extended about 20 years later and again around 1850 by Captain Cuffe, one of its most durable residents. Over the ensuing years there have been a number of owners, and the original property was split up in the 1950s into separate units. The current owners have been in residence since 1994, and in that time, the main house has been brought back together; and they have restored and remodelled the property to create a beautifully presented home, combining original period features with a stylish contemporary finish.

6 Upon entering through the vestibule into the entrance hall there is a wonderful first impression of the Georgian era, with doors to the well proportioned formal reception rooms on either side. Both the drawing room and dining room have matching bay windows with shutters and the sitting room retains the original window seats. Both have feature fireplaces, ornate cornicing and wood panelling. The adjoining library/ TV room has a square bay with stained glass panels depicting Henry I & Charles I. In the centre of the main house is the contemporary family kitchen with sleek lines in stainless steel and blue pearl granite worktops and breakfast bar. Incorporating an Aga, there are integrated Miele appliances including a gas hob, extractor fan, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridges and freezer. A roof lantern floods the breakfast area with natural light, for more informal family dining. Four arches then lead to the expansive family room, about 30ft square, again with a large roof lantern above. A wide opening leads to a further large reception room currently used as a home gym. Doors provide access to a glass cube a stunning contemporary conservatory addition with a polished concrete floor which flows seamlessly onto the patio and the beautifully landscaped side garden. The main staircase leads to a split level landing and the two principal bedrooms which mirror the drawing room and dining room below, again with their deep bay windows providing wonderful views over the farmland opposite. The master bedroom features an ornate plaster cornice and ceiling, a good example of English Rococo work dating from the second half of the 18th Century. The en suite bathroom is luxuriously appointed with a Villeroy & Boch suite and a Nordic double shower with body jets. There are a further six bedrooms with three on the first floor and three on the second, all of which either have en suite facilities or are served by a further three bath/shower rooms. The current layout to the main house has been remodelled to provide two separate self contained annexes, one connecting to the ground floor accommodation and the other together with store rooms and wine cellar is located on the lower ground floor. These are ideal for a relative, guest or live-in staff.

12 Outside Missenden House is approached via a sweeping drive and turning circle which also provides access for its neighbours, Tudor Cottage and Orchard Cottage. The gardens are laid out in a series of rooms, complementing the house, and offering perspectives of the surrounding countryside. The front garden is a traditional lawn and has herbaceous planting, with ornamental trees, and is bounded by yew hedges. On the south east side, is an ornamental grassed area and Zen garden centred on a small pond, from a design by Christopher Bradley- Hole. The East Wing garden has recently been created by a local designer, around a some welsh slate menhirs, and features spring bulbs and shrub roses. A new potager garden, by the same designer, lies to the immediate north of the house with a mixture of flowers fruit and vegetable beds again contained by yew hedges. Beyond this is an informal area, with plantings of fruit trees, bamboo and spring bulbs, which runs up to the River Misbourne. This part of the garden also contains a decking pathway and a children s climbing area, and currently houses the owner s bees and hens..
