5 For your safety 2 For your safety 2.1 Authorised personne A operations described in this operating instructions manua must be carried out ony by trained speciaist personne authorised by the operator. For safety and warranty reasons, any interna work on the instruments must be carried out ony by personne authorised by the manufacturer. 2.2 Appropriate use PLICSCOM is a puggabe indicating and adjustment modue for VEGA eve and pressure sensors. 2.3 Warning about misuse Inappropriate or incorrect use of the instrument can give rise to appication-specific hazards, e.g. vesse overfi or damage to system components through incorrect mounting or adjustment. 2.4 Genera safety instructions PLICSCOM is a high-tech instrument requiring the strict observance of standard reguations and guideines. The user must take note of the safety instructions in this operating instructions manua, the country-specific instaation standards (e.g. the VDE reguations in Germany) as we as a prevaiing safety reguations and accident prevention rues. 2.5 CE conformity The indicating and adjustment modue is in CE conformity to EMC (89/336/EWG) and NSR (73/23/EWG). Conformity has been judged according to the foowing standards: EMC: - Emission EN 61326: Susceptibiity EN 61326: A1:1998 LVD: EN : Compatibiity according to NAMUR NE 53 PLICSCOM meets NAMUR recommendation NE 53. 6 For your safety The parameter adjustment of the basic sensor functions is independent of the software version. The range of avaiabe functions depends on the respective software version of the individua components. You can view a software histories on our website com. Make use of this advantage and get registered for update information via e-mai. 2.7 Safety instructions for Ex areas Pease note the Ex-specific safety information for instaation and operation in Ex areas. These safety instructions are part of the operating instructions manua and come with the Exapproved instruments. 2.8 Functiona range of approved instruments Instruments with nationa approvas such as according to FM or CSA are party suppied with a previous hardware or software version. For approva-technica reasons, some functions for these instruments wi be ony avaiabe at a ater date. You wi find corresponding instructions in the description of the individua functions in this operating instructions manua. 2.9 Environmenta instructions Protection of the environment is one of our most important duties. That is why we have introduced an environment management system with the goa of continuousy improving company environmenta protection. 7 Product description 3 Product description 3.1 Configuration Scope of deivery Equipment The scope of deivery encompasses: Indicating and adjustment modue Documentation - this operating instructions manua - Suppementary instructions manua "Heating for indicating and adjustment modue" (optiona) The indicating and adjustment modue is equipped with a dispay with fu dot matrix as we as four keys for adjustment. Depending on the respective version of the indicating and adjustment modue as we as the sensor eectronics, an integrated background ighting can be switched on via the adjustment menu. 8 Product description 1 2 Fig. 2: Rear of the indicating/adjustment modue 1 Integrated sea ring 2 God pated contact paths 3.2 Principe of operation Area of appication The indicating and adjustment modue is used for measured vaue indication, adjustment, and diagnostics for the foowing VEGA pics sensors: VEGAPULS series 60 VEGAFLEX series 60 VEGASON series 60 VEGABAR series 50 and 60 VEGACAL series 60 The indicating and adjustment modue is integrated in the respective sensor housing or in the externa indicating and adjustment unit VEGADIS 61. After mounting, the sensor and the indicating and adjustment modue are spash-proof aso without housing cover. The operation of two indicating and adjustment modues in parae in the sensor and in VEGADIS 61 is not supported. Suppy Power is suppied directy by the respective sensor or by VEGADIS 61. An additiona connection is not necessary. The backight is aso powered by the sensor or via VEGADIS 61. Prerequisite for this is a suppy votage at a certain eve. The exact votage specifications can be found in the operating instructions manua of the respective sensor. 8 Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM

9 Product description For instruments with nationa approvas such as e.g. according to FM and CSA, this function ony avaiabe at a ater date. The optiona heating requires its own power suppy. You can find further detais in the suppementary instructions manua "Heating for indicating and adjustment modue". 3.3 Operation The adjustment is carried out via the integrated keys. The entered parameters are generay saved in the respective sensor. A copy function enabes oading of the parameters into the indicating and adjustment modue. 3.4 Storage and transport Packaging Storage and transport temperature Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test according to DIN EN The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. For specia versions, PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. 10 Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Mounting steps Insert/remove PLICSCOM PLICSCOM can be mounted or dismounted at any time. It is not necessary to interrupt the power suppy. To mount, proceed as foows: 1 Unscrew the housing cover 2 Pace PLICSCOM in the required position to the eectronics Information: Four different positions are possibe, each dispaced by 90. The LC dispay indicates the individua menu items. The functions of the individua keys are shown in the above iustration. 12 Setup indication is triggered. Any vaues not confirmed with [OK] wi not be saved. 5.2 Overview Continuousy measuring sensors for eve and pressure have various functions. Hence they can be adapted in an optimum way to the respective appication. The functions are structured in a cear menu form (see section "Menu schematics"). The foowing functions are described in this operating instructions manua: Genera functions Functions for 4 20 ma/hart Functions for Profibus PA Functions for Foundation Fiedbus Further, sensor-specific functions are described in the operating instructions manua of the respective sensor. 5.3 Genera functions The genera functions are described in this paragraph. The functions of the indicating/adjustment modue are determined by the sensor and correspond to the respective software version of the sensor. Information: The respective menu item number differs depending on the sensor type and signa output. Measured vaue indication The foowing presentations are avaiabe in the measured vaue dispay: Leve as digita vaue, sensor TAG Leve as digita vaue and bar graph, sensor TAG Ony with pressure transmitters: Leve or pressure as digita vaue, temperature vaue With [->] you seect the different presentations of the measured vaue. You can reach the menu overview from any presentation with [OK]. With [ESC] you return from the menu overview to the measured vaue dispay. 13 Setup Basic adjustment 1 Indication Diagnostics Service Info Damping Menu section, basic adjustment To damp process-dependent measured vaue fuctuations, you have to set an integration time of s in this menu item. Depending on the sensor type, the factory setting is 0 sor1 s. Damping 0 s Linearisation curve In this menu item you seect the inearization curve: inear Cyindrica tank Spherica tank User programmabe User programmabe means: Switching on a inearization curve programmed via PC and PACTware A inearization is necessary for a vesses in which the vesse voume does not increase ineary with the eve - e.g. with a cyindrica or spherica tank - and the indication or output of the voume is required. Corresponding inearization curves are preprogrammed for these vesses. They represent the correation between the eve percentage and vesse voume. The inearization appies to the measured vaue indication and the current output.by activating the appropriate curve, the voume percentage of the vesse is dispayed correcty. If the voume shoud not be dispayed in percent but e.g. in or kg, a scaing can be aso set in the menu item "Dispay". Factory setting is inear. Linearisation curve inear Caution: Note the foowing, if the respective sensor is used as part of an overfi protection system according to WHG: Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 13

14 Setup If a inearisation curve is seected, the measuring signa is no onger compusoriy inear proportiona to the eve. This must be taken into consideration by the user, particuary when adjusting the switching point on the eve switch. Edit sensor TAG In the menu item "Sensor-TAG" you can edit a tweve-digit measurement oop name. An unambiguous designation can be thus assigned to the sensor, e.g. the measurement oop name or the tank or product designation. In digita systems and in the documentation of arger pants, a singuar designation shoud be entered for exact identification of individua measuring sites. The characters comprise: Letters from A Z Numbers from 0 9 Specia characters +, -,/,- Factory setting is "Sensor". Sensor-TAG Sensor Lighting Menu section, dispay An integrated background ighting can be switched via the adjustment menu. The foowing version is necessary: Indicating and adjustment modue - 01 or higher Sensor eectronics 4 20 ma - 01 or higher Sensor eectronics pressure transmitter 4 20 ma - 02 or higher Sensor eectronics Profibus PA or Foundation Fiedbus - 03 or higher The version is stated on the type abe of the indicating and adjustment modue or the sensor eectronics. The function depends aso on the height of the suppy votage, see operating instructions manua of the respective sensor. Information: For instruments with nationa approvas such as e.g. according to FM and CSA, this function ony avaiabe at a ater date. 15 Setup Pointer Menu section, diagnostics Min. and max. measured vaues are saved in the sensor. The vaues are dispayed in the menu item "Peak vaues". Min. and max. distance in m(d): Radar, guided microwave, utrasonic sensors Min. and max. pressure: pressure transmitter 1) Min. and max. temperature: utrasonic sensors, pressure transmitters Pointer Meas. reiabiity Sensor status When non-contact eve sensors are used, the measurement can be infuenced by the respective process conditions. In this menu item, the measurement reiabiity of the eve echo is dispayed as db vaue. The measurement reiabiity equas signa strength minus noise. The higher the vaue, the more reiabe the measurement. In this menu item, the device status is dispayed. If the sensor detects a faut, "OK" wi be dispayed. If a faut is detected, a fashing faiure message is outputted sensor-specificay, e.g. "E013". The faut is aso dispayed in cear text, e.g. "No measurement vaue". Information: The faut message as we as the cear text indication are aso carried out in the measured vaue dispay. Meas. reiabiity Sensor status Curve seection With utrasonic and radar sensors as we as sensors with guided microwave, the "Echo curve" represents the signa strength of the echoes over the measuring range. The units of the signa strength are "db" (utrasonic and radar) and "Vot" (guided microwave). 16 Setup With utrasonic and radar sensors, the "Fase echo curve" represents the saved fase echoes (see menu "Service") of the empty vesse with signa strength in "db" over the measuring range. With a pics sensors, up to 3000 measured vaues (depending on the sensor) are recorded when starting a "Trend curve". Then the vaues can be dispayed over a timeine. The odest measured vaues are aways deeted. In the menu item "Choose curve", the respective curve is seected. Curve seection Echo curve Curve presentation Information: The trend recording is not activated when being shipped. It must be started by the user via the menu item "Start trend curve". A comparison of echo and fase echo curve aows a more detaied specification on the measurement reiabiity. The seected curve is updated permanenty. With the [OK] key, a submenu with zoom functions is opened. The foowing functions are avaiabe with "Echo and fase echo curve": "X-Zoom": Zoom function for the meas. distance "Y-Zoom": 1, 2, 5 and 10-times signa magnification in "db" "Unzoom": Reset the presentation to the nomina measuring range with singe magnification In the menu item "Trend curve" the foowing are avaiabe: "X-Zoom": Resoution - 1 minute - 1 hour - 1 day "Stop/Start": Interrupt a recording or start a new recording "Unzoom": Reset the resoution to minutes As defaut setting, the recording pattern has 1 minute. With the adjustment software PACTware, this pattern can be aso set to 1 hour or 1 day. 16 Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM

17 Setup Echo curve Simuation of measured vaues Menu section, service In this menu item you simuate a user-defined eve or pressure vaue via the current output. This aows you to test the signa path, e.g. through connected indicating instruments or the input card of the contro system. The foowing simuation variabes are avaiabe: Percent Current Pressure (with pressure transmitters) Distance (with radar and guided microwave) With Profibus PA sensors, the seection of the simuated vaue is made via the "Channe" in the menu "Basic adjustments". How to start the simuation: 1 Push [OK] 2 Seect the requested simuation variabe with [->] and confirm with [OK] 3 Set the requested vaue with [+] and [->]. 4 Push [OK] The simuation is now running, with 4 20 ma/hart a current is outputted and with Profibus PA or Foundation Fiedbus a digita vaue. How to interrupt the simuation: à Push [ESC] Information: The simuation is terminated automaticay 10 minutes after the ast key has been pushed. Simuation Start simuation? Reset With the reset function, modified vaues are reset. Three subfunctions are avaiabe: Basic adjustment Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 17

18 Setup - Reset the vaues modified with the indicating and adjustment modue to the sensor-specific basic setting Factory setting - As basic adjustment, but aso reset of specia parameters to the defaut vaues 2) Peak vaues measured vaue and temperature 3) - Reset of the min./max. vaues of pressure, eve and temperature to the current vaues Information: Because the reset vaues are neary sensor-specifc, they are isted in the operating instructions manua of the respective sensor. Reset Reset? Unit of measurement In this menu item you seect the interna arithmetic unit of the sensor. With radar, guided microwave and utrasonic sensors this is m(d) or ft(d). For pressure transmitters more comprehensive units are avaiabe. They are described in the operating instructions manua of the respective sensor in the menu "Basic adjustments". Unit of measurement m(d) Language The sensor is aready set to the ordered nationa anguage. In this menu item you can change the anguage. The foowing anguages are avaiabe: Deutsch Engish Français Espanõ 2) Specia parameters are parameters which are set customer-specificay on the service eve with the adjustment software PACTware. 3) Temperature ony with pressure transmitters and utrasonic sensors. 18 Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM

19 Setup Pycckuu Japanese Chinese Language Deutsch Copy sensor data With this function Load parameter adjustment data from the sensor into the indicating and adjustment modue Write parameter adjustment data from the indicating and adjustment modue into the sensor The data are permanenty saved in an EEPROM memory in the indicating and adjustment modue and remain there even in case of power faiure. From there, they can be written in one or severa sensors or kept as backup for a probabe sensor exchange. Kind and voume of the copied data depend on the respective sensor. Information: Before writing the data into the sensor, it is checked if the data fit the sensor. If data do not fit, a faut signa is triggered or the function is bocked. When writing data into the sensor, you wi see from which instrument type the data originate and which TAG-no. this sensor had. The foowing items are checked: Software version WHG approva SIL activated Measuring principe Radar C-band/K-band Radar measuring range <30 mor >30 m Signa output Pressure measuring range Copy sensor data Copy sensor data? 20 Setup PIN In this menu item, the PIN is activated/deactivated permanenty. Entering a 4-digit PIN protects the sensor data against unauthorized access and unintentiona modifications. If the PIN is activated permanenty, it can be deactivated temporariy (i.e. for approx. 60 min.) in any menu item. The instrument is deivered with the PIN set to PIN Disabe permanenty? Info Ony the foowing functions are permitted with activated PIN: Seect menu items and show data Read data from the sensor into the indicating/adjustment modue. 21 Setup Sensor characteristics Dispay now? 5.4 Functions ma/hart Introduction The 4 20 ma/hart specia functions are briefy described in this paragraph. The respective range of functions of the indicating and adjustment modue is determined by the sensor and the sensor software revision. Indication In the menu item "Dispay" you can define how the measured vaue shoud be presented on the dispay. The foowing indication vaues are avaiabe: Height Pressure (ony with pressure transmitters) Distance (ony with radar, guided microwave, utrasonics) Current Scaed Percent Lin. percent Temperature (ony with pressure transmitters). The seection "scaed" opens the menu items "Dispay unit" and "Scaing". In "Dispay unit" there are the foowing options: Height Mass Fow Voume Without unit Depending on seection, the different units are in turn avaiabe. In the menu item "Scaing", the requested numerica vaue with decima point is entered for 0 % and 100 % of the measured vaue. There is the foowing reation between the indication vaue in the menu "Dispay" and the adjustment unit in the menu "Basic adjustment": With radar, guided microwave and utrasonics, dispayed vaue "Distance" means: presentation of the measured vaue in the seected adjustment unit, e.g. m(d) Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 21

22 Setup With pressure, dispayed vaue "Pressure" or "Height" means: presentation of the measured vaue in the seected adjustment unit, e.g. bar or m. Dispayed vaue Scaed Anzeigeeinheit Voumen Scaing 0 %= %=100.0 Current output Menu section, service In the menu item "Current output" you determine the behaviour of the current output during operation and in case of faiure. The foowing options are avaiabe: Current output Output mode Faiure mode 4) Min. current 5) Max. current 6) 4 20 ma 20 4 ma Hod vaue 20.5 ma 22 ma <3.6 ma 3.8 ma 4 ma 20 ma 20.5 ma The vaues in bod font represent the data of the factory setting. In HART mutidrop mode, the current is constanty 4 ma. This vaue does not change even in case of faiure. 4) Vaue of the current output in case of faiure, e.g. if no vaid measured vaue is deivered. 5) This vaue is not underrun during operation. 6) This vaue is not exceeded during operation. 22 Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM

23 Setup Current output Output mode: 4-20 ma Faiure mode: 22 ma Min. current 3.8 ma Functiona safety (SIL) Certain sensors are suitabe for use according to IEC For this use, you have to activate the menu item "SIL". This infuences the foowing menu items: Menu items "Current output" in "Faiure mode", "Hod vaue" and "20.5 ma" bocked "HART mode", "Mutidrop" bocked The defaut setting for "SIL" is "deactivated". Note: For such appications, take note of "Safety Manua". HART mode HART offers standard and mutidrop mode The mode standard with the fixed address 0 means output of the measured vaue as 4 20 ma signa. In Mutidrop mode, up to 15 sensors can be operated on one two-wire cabe. An address between 1 and 126 must be assigned to each sensor. 7) In this menu item you determine the HART mode and enter the address for mutidrop. HART mode Standard Address 0 The defaut setting is standard with address Functions - Profibus PA Introduction The Profibus PA specia functions are briefy described in this paragraph. The respective range of functions of the indicating and adjustment modue is determined by the sensor and the sensor software revision. 7) The 4 20 ma signa of the HART sensor is switched off. The sensor consumes a constant current of 4 ma. The measuring signa is transmitted excusivey as digita HART signa. Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM 23

24 Setup Sensor address Menu section, basic adjustment Leve and pressure sensors operate as saves on the Profibus PA. To be identified as a bus participant, each sensor must have a unique address. Each instrument is deivered with address 126. With this address, it can at first be connected to an existing bus. However, the address must be changed. This can be done in this menu item. Sensor address 126 Channe The channe is the input seector switch for function bock (FB) of the sensor. Within the function bock, additiona scaings (Out-Scae) are carried out. In this menu item, the vaue fir the function bock is seected: SV1 (Secondary Vaue 1): - Percent with radar, guided microwave and utrasonic sensors - Pressure or height with pressure transmitters SV2 (Secondary Vaue 2): - Distance with radar, guided microwave and utrasonic sensors - Percent with pressure transmitters PV (Primary Vaue): - Linearised percentage vaue Channe PV in. vaue Indication Menu section, dispay Radar, guided microwave and utrasonic sensors deiver the foowing measured vaues: SV1 (Secondary Vaue 1): Percentage vaue after the adjustment SV2 (Secondary Vaue 2): Distance vaue before the adjustment PV (Primary Vaue): Linearised percentage vaue PA-Out (vaue after passing the function bock): PA output A pressure transmitter deivers the foowing measured vaues: 24 Indicating and adjustment modue PLICSCOM

25 SV1 (Secondary Vaue 1): Pressure or height vaue before adjustment SV2 (Secondary Vaue 2): Percentage vaue after the adjustment PV (Primary Vaue): Linearised percentage vaue PA-Out (vaue after passing the function bock): PA output Temperature In the menu item "Dispay" you can define which measured vaue shoud be presented on the dispay. Dispayed vaue Setup PA-Out Additiona PA vaue Menu section, service Profibus transmits two vaues cycicay. The first vaue is determined in the menu item "Channe". The seection of the additiona cycica vaue is made in the menu item "Additiona PA vaue". They are hence avaiabe for mutipe use or service purposes. Aternativey the data can be oaded from the sensor into the indicating and adjustment modue. The procedure is described in the menu item "Copy sensor data". The data remain there even the power suppy fais. 34 Dismounting 7 Dismounting 7.1 Dismounting steps Warning: Before dismounting, be aware of dangerous process conditions such as e.g. pressure in the vesse, high temperatures, corrosive or toxic products etc. Take note of chapters "Mounting" and "Connecting to power suppy" and carry out the isted steps in reverse order. 7.2 Disposa The indicating and adjustment modue consists of materias which can recyced by speciaised recycing companies. We have purposey designed the components to be easiy separabe. WEEE directive 2002/96/EG This indicating and adjustment modue is not subject to the WEEE directive 2002/96/EG and the respective nationa aws (in Germany, e.g. EektroG). Pass the indicating and adjustment modue directy on to a speciaised recycing company and do not use the municipa coecting points.
