Product description It is designed for industria use in a areas of process technoogy and is used in iquids. Typica appications are overfi and dry run protection. With a tuning fork of ony 40 mm ength, OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C can be aso mounted, e.g. in pipeines from DN 25. The sma tuning fork aows the use in vesses, tanks and pipes. Thanks to its simpe and robust measuring system, OPTI- SWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C is virtuay unaffected by the chemica and physica properties of the iquid. It functions aso under difficut conditions such as turbuence, air bubbes, foam generation, buidup, strong externa vibration or changing products. Faut monitoring The eectronics modue of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C monitors continuousy the foowing criteria via the frequency evauation: strong corrosion or damage of the tuning fork no vibration ine break to the piezo drive If one of these fauts is detected or if the power suppy fais, the eectronics takes on a defined output status (safe condition). OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C fufis the requirements of IEC and of SIL2 (see Suppement). Physica principe The tuning fork is piezoeectricay energised and vibrates at its mechanica resonance frequency of approx Hz. The piezos are fixed mechanicay and are hence not subjected to temperature shock imitations. The frequency changes if the tuning fork is covered by the medium. This change is detected by the integrated osciator and converted into a switching command. Power suppy OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C is a compact instrument, i.e. it can be operated without externa evauation system. The integrated eectronics evauates the eve signa and outputs a switching signa. With this switching signa, a connected device can be operated directy (e.g. a warning system, a PLC, a pump etc.). The exact range of the power suppy is stated in the Technica data in the Suppement. 8 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Product description 3.3 Adjustment The switching condition of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C with pastic housing can be checked when the housing is cosed (LED dispay). In the basic adjustment, products with a density >0.7 g/cm³ (>0.025 bs/in³) can be detected. The instrument can be adapted if products with ower density shoud be measured. On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: LED for indication of the switching status DIL switch for switching point adaptation Mode switch to seect the switching condition (min/max) Simuation key 3.4 Storage and transport Packaging Storage and transport temperature Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport. Its capacity to hande norma oads during transport is assured by a test acc. to DIN The packaging of standard instruments consists of environment-friendy, recycabe cardboard. In addition, the sensor is provided with a protective cover of ABS. For specia versions PE foam or PE foi is aso used. Dispose of the packaging materia via speciaised recycing companies. 10 Mounting 4 Mounting 4.1 Genera instructions Switching point In genera, OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C can be mounted in any position. The instrument must be mounted in any position. The instrument must be mounted in such a way that the tuning fork is at the height of the requested switching point. The tuning fork has atera markings (notches), marking the switching point with vertica mounting. The switching point refers to water with the basic setting of the sensitivity switch >=0.7 g/cm³ (>=0.025 bs/in³). When mounting OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C, make sure that this marking is at the height of the requested switching point. Keep in mind that the switching point of the instrument is shifted if the medium has a density other than water - water =1.0 g/cm³ (=0.036 bs/in³). For products <0.7 g/cm³ (<0.025 bs/in³) and >0.5 g/cm³ (>0.018 bs/in³) the density switch must be set to >=0.5 g/cm³ Fig. 2: Vertica mounting 1 Switching point approx. 13 mm (ca in) 2 Switching point with ower density 3 Switching point with higher density 4 Switching point approx. 27 mm (approx in) 10 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Mounting 1 Fig. 3: Horizonta mounting 1 Switching point 1 2 Fig. 4: Horizonta mounting (recommended instaation ocation - particuary for adhesive products) 1 Switching point 2 Marking with screwed version on top - with fange versions directed to the fange hoes Moisture Use the recommended cabe (see chapter "Connecting to power suppy") and tighten the cabe entry. You can give your OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C additiona protection against moisture penetration by eading the connection cabe downward in front of the cabe entry. Rain and condensation water can thus drain off. This appies mainy to mounting outdoors, in areas where moisture is expected (e.g. by ceaning processes) or on cooed or heated vesses. Fig. 5: Measures against moisture penetration OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output 11

Mounting Transport Pressure/Vacuum Handing Do not hod OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C on the tuning fork. Particuary with fange or tube versions, the tuning fork can be damaged by the instrument weight. Transport enameed and ECTFE coated instruments very carefuy and avoid touching the tuning fork. Remove the protective cover just before mounting. The process fitting must be seaed if there is gauge or ow pressure in the vesse. Before use, check if the sea materia is resistant against the measured product and the process temperature. The vibrating eve switch is a measuring instrument and must be treated accordingy. Bending the vibrating eement wi destroy the instrument. Warning: The housing must not be used to screw the instrument in! Appying tightening force to the housing can damage its interna mechanica components. To screw in, use the hexagon above the thread. Weding the socket 4.2 Mounting information OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C has a defined thread starting point. This means that every OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C is in the same fork position after being screwed in. Remove therefore the suppied sea from the thread of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C. This sea is not required when using a weded socket with O-ring in front. Keep in mind that this weded socket is not suitabe for coated instrument versions (e.g. ename). Screw OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C competey into the weded socket. The ater position can be determined aready before weding. Mark the appropriate position of the weded socket. Before weding, unscrew OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C and remove the rubber ring from the weded socket. The weded socket has a marking (notch). Wed the socket with the notch facing upward, or in case of pipeines, aigned with the direction of fow. 12 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Mounting 1 Fig. 6: Marking on the weded socket 1 Marking Adhesive products Infowing medium In case of horizonta mounting in adhesive and viscous products, the surfaces of the tuning fork shoud be vertica in order to reduce buidup on the tuning fork. On the screwed version you wi find a marking on the hexagon. With this, you can check the position of the tuning fork when screwing it in. When the hexagon touches the sea, the thread can be sti turned by approx. haf a turn. This is sufficient to reach the recommended instaation position. With fange versions, the fork is directed to the fange hoes. In case of adhesive and viscous products, the tuning fork shoud protrude into the vesse to avoid buidup. Therefore sockets for fanges and mounting bosses shoud be avoided with horizonta mounting. If OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C is mounted in the fiing stream, unwanted switching signas can be generated. Mount OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C at a ocation in the vesse where no disturbing infuence from e.g. fiing openings, agitators, etc. can occur. This appies particuary to instrument types with ong extension tube. OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output 13

Mounting Fig. 7: Infowing medium Fow Agitators If there is movement within the product, the tuning fork of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C shoud be mounted in such a way that the surfaces of the fork are parae to the product movement. Due to agitators, vibrations or simiar, the eve switch can be subjected to strong atera forces. For this reason, do not use an overy ong extension tube for OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C, but check if you can mount an OPTISWITCH 5100 C, 5150 C eve switch on the side of the vesse in horizonta position. Extreme vibrations from the system side, e.g. by agitators or turbuence in the vesse, e.g. by fuidization can cause the extension tube of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C to vibrate. This wi cause increased stress on the upper wed joint. Shoud a onger tube version be necessary, you can provide a suitabe straining or fastening directy above the tuning fork to fasten the extension tube. This measure appies particuary to appications in Ex areas category 1G or WHG. Make sure that the tube is not bent by this measure. 14 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Mounting Fig. 8: Latera straining of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C Ename coating Instruments with ename coating shoud be treated very carefuy and shocks shoud be avoided. Unpack OPTI- SWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C directy before instaation. Insert OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C carefuy into the vesse opening and avoid touching any sharp vesse parts. 19 Set up 6 Set up 6.1 Genera The numbers in brackets refer to the foowing iustrations. Function/Configuration The switching condition of the eectronics can be checked with pastic housing and cosed housing cover (LED dispay). In the basic adjustment, products with a density >0.7 g/cm³ (>0.025 bs/in³) can be detected. In iquids with ower density, you must set the switch to >0.5 g/cm³ (>0.018 bs/in³). On the eectronics modue you wi find the foowing indicating and adjustment eements: LED dispay (1) DIL switch for characteristics reversa - min/max (2) DIL switch for sensitivity adjustment (3) Simuation key (4) Note: For test purposes, immerse the tuning fork of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C aways in iquids. Do not test the function of OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C with the hand. This can damage the sensor. 6.2 Adjustment eements Fig. 12: Osciator SW E 60 N - NAMUR output 1 LED dispay 2 DIL switch for characteristics reversa 3 DIL switch for switching point adaptation 4 Simuation key OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output 19

You can choose between faing characteristics (switch position max.) and rising characteristics (switch position min.). You can have the requested current outputted. Modes min. -rising characteristics (High current when immersed) max. faing characteristics (Low current when immersed) The NAMUR output can be switched over to faing or rising characteristics (see aso Function chart). For appications acc. to WHG, the DIL switch must be set to position max. With this DIL switch (3) you can set the switching point to iquids, having a density between 0.5 and 0.7 g/cm³ ( bs/in³). In the basic adjustment, iquids with a density of >0.7 g/cm³ (0.025 bs/in³) can be detected. In products with ower density, you must set the switch to >0,5 g/cm³ (0.018 bs/ in³). The specifications for the position of the switching point reate the water - density vaue 1.0 g/cm³ (0.036 bs/in³). In products with another density, the switching point shifts depending on the density and instaation in direction of the housing or tuning fork end. The simuation key is owered on the upper side of the osciator. Push the simuation key with a suitabe object (screwdriver, pen, etc.). When the key is pushed, ine break between sensor and processing unit is simuated. The LED on the sensor extinguishes. The measuring system must signa faiure and take on safe condition when the key is pushed. Keep in mind that the connected instruments are activated as ong as the key is pushed. By doing this, you can check the correct function of the measuring system. 6.3 Function chart The foowing chart provides an overview of the switching conditions depending on the adjusted mode and eve. 20 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Functiona safety Low demand mode Faiure rates are constant, wear of the mechanica parts is not taken into account Faiure rates of externa power suppies are not incuded Mutipe errors are not taken into account The average ambient temperature during the operating time is +40 C (104 F) The environmenta conditions correspond to an average industria environment The ifetime of the components is around 8 to 12 years (IEC , , remark 3) The processing unit can interpret "fai ow" and "fai high" faiures as interferences and output a suitabe faut signa The repair time (exchangeof themeas. system) after a faisafe error is eight hours (MTTR = 8 h) In the mode with the owest demand rate, the reaction time of a connected contro and processing unit to dangerous detectabe errors is max. 1 hour. If the demand rate is ony once a year, then the measuring system can be used as safety-reevant subsystem in "ow demand mode" (IEC , ). If the ratio of the interna diagnostics test rate of the measuring system to the demand rate exceeds the vaue 100, the measuring system can be treated in the way it is executing a safety function in the mode with ow demand rate (IEC , ). Corresponding characteristics is the vaue PFD avg (average Probabiity of dangerous Faiure on Demand). It is dependent on the test interva T Proof between the function tests of the protective function. Numbers see paragraph "Safety-technica characteristics". High demand mode Safe condition and faut description If the "ow demand mode" does not appy, the measuring system must be used as safety-reevant subsystem in "high demand" (IEC , ). The faut toerance time of the compete system must be higher than the sum of the reaction times or the diagnostics test periods of a components in the safety chain. Corresponding characteristics is the vaue PFH (faiure rate). Numbers see paragraph "Safety-technica characteristics". The safe condition depends on the mode and is stated in the foowing chart: OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output 27

Functiona safety The characteristics min/max must be set acc. to the mode (see Function chart). Overfi protection Dry run protection Safe condition "covered" "uncovered" Output current in safe condition ma ma Faiure current "fai ow" < 0.4 ma < 0.4 ma Faiure current "fai high" > 6.5 ma > 6.5 ma A fai-safe faiure (safe faiure) exists if the measuring system changes to the defined safe condition or to the faiure mode without demand of the process. A dangerous undetected faiure exists if the measuring system does neither go to the defined safe condition when required by the process nor to the faiure mode. Configuration of the processing unit If the measuring system deivers output currents of "fai ow" or "fai high", this can be due to a faiure. The processing unit must therefore interpret such currents as faiure and output a suitabe faut signa. If this is not the case, the appropriate shares of the faiure rates must be assigned to the dangerous faiures. Therefore the stated vaues in chapter "Safety-reevant characteristics" can deteriorate. The processing unit must correspond to the SIL eve of the measuring chain. The adjustment of the mode on the NAMUR ampifier acc. to IEC must be seected in such a way that its switching condition takes on safe condition if there is an input current < 1.2 ma. Mounting and instaation 9.3 Setup The prevaiing pant conditions infuence the safety of the measuring system. Therefore note the mounting and instaation instructions of the appropriate operating instructions manua. Mainy important is the correct setting of the mode (A/ B). 28 OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output

Functiona safety The switching point of the measuring system must be adapted depending on the density imits in the operating instructions manua. 9.4 Reaction during operation and in case of faiure The adjustment eements must not be modified during operation. In case of modifications during operation, you have to take note of the safety functions. Occurring faut signas are described in the appropriate operating instructions manua. In case of detected faiures or faut signas, the entire measuring system must be switched out of service and the process hed in a safe condition by means of other measures. An eectronics exchange is easiy possibe and described in the operating instructions manua. If due to the detected faiure, the eectronics or the compete sensor is interchanged, the manufacturer must be informed (inc. a faut description). 9.5 Recurring function test The recurring function test serves to revea potentia dangerous errors that are otherwise not discernibe. The function of the measuring system must be checked at adequate intervas. The operator is responsibe for choosing the type of test and the intervas in the stated time frame. The time frame depends on the PFD avg vaue acc. to the chart and diagram in section "Safety-reated characteristics". With high demand rate, a recurring function test is not requested in IEC The function of the measuring system is proven by the frequent use of the system. In doube channe architectures it is usefu to proof the redundancy by recurring function tests in appropriate intervas. The test must be carried out in a way that verifies the fawess operation of the safety functions in conjunction with a system components. This is ensured by a controed reaching of the response height during fiing. If fiing up to the response height is not possibe, then a response of the measuring system must be triggered by a suitabe simuation of the eve or the physica effect. OPTISWITCH 5200 C, 5250 C - with NAMUR output 29

Functiona safety The methods and procedures used during the tests must be stated and their suitabiity must be specified. The tests must be documented. If the function test proves negative, the entire measuring system must be switched out of service and the process hed in a safe condition by means of other measures. In the doube channe architecture 1oo2D this appies separatey to both channes. 9.6 Safety-reated characteristics The faiure rates of the eectronics and the vibrating systems are determined by an FMEDA acc. to IEC These cacuations are based on component faiure rates acc. to SN A numerica vaues refer to an average ambient temperature during the operating time of +40 C (104 F). The cacuations are aso based on the specifications stated in chapter "Panning".
