Connect the air conditioner to the proper kind of outet with the correct eectrica suppy and grounding. (See the Instaation Instructions.) Make sure the air conditioner is the correct size for the area you want to coo. Use the air conditioner ony to do what a window air conditioner is designed to do. Make sure the air conditioner is not used by anyone unabe to operate it propery. Maintain the air conditioner propery. Aso, remove the Energy Labe. Use a damp coth to take off any gue residue. DO NOT use sharp instruments, fammabe fuids, or abrasive ceaners. These can damage the materia. 3

5 Operating Your Air Conditioner To obtain the best possibe resuts from your air conditioner, it is important that you operate it propery. This section tes you how to set the contros and how to direct the cooed air. Starting your air conditioner 1. Set Exhaust Contro to CLOSED for maximum cooing performance. (See Using the exhaust vent contro on paw Set the Fan Contro to the desired setting. You can use either the ENERGY SAVER or NORMAL FAN settings. (See Using the energy saver settings on paw 6.1 LOW -for seeping comfort MED - for norma cooing QUICK COMFORT-for fastest coding FAN ONLY -to circuate room air without cooing it 3. Turn the Thermostat Controi to a mid setting. You can adjust the air conditioner s cooing performance by turning the Thermostat Contro cc&wise for more cooing or countercockwise for ess cooing. You wi need to experiment to find the setting which suits you best. IMPORTANT: f you turn the air conditioner off, or if the compressor tums off when you ower the Thermostat Contro, wait at feast 3 minutes before turning the air conditioner back on. If you don t waft, you may bow a fuse or trip a circuit breaker. Eectrica Shock Hazard Pug unit onfy into grounded eectrica outet. *Do not uw an extension cord. 6 Using the exhaust vent contro The Exhaust Vent Contro draws stae or smoky air from the room or circuates existing room air. To exhaust room air: 1. Set Exhaust Vent Contro to OPEN. 2. Set Fan Contro to desired setting (ENERGY SAVER or NORMAL FAN). If no coding is desired, set Fan Contro to FAN ONLY. 3. Set Thermostat Contro to desired setting. To circuate room air: 1. Set Exhaust Vent Contro to CLOSED. 2. Set Fan Contro to desired setting (ENERGY SAVER or NORMAL FAN). If no coding is desired, set Fan Contro to FAN ONLY. 3. Set Thermostat Contro to desired setting. NOTE: For maximum performance, the Exhaust Vent Contro must be in the CLOSED position when cooing or room air circuation is desired. Using the energy saver settings Use the ENERGY SAVER settings when you do not want the fan to run continuousy. Using these settings causes the fan to stop when the compressor stops and saves energy. Set the Fan Contro to the desired setting. LOW-for seeping comfort MED -for norma cooing QUICK COMFORT -for fastest cooing Changing air direction The air direction cartridges on both sides of the unit contro the direction of the cooed air. The air direction cartridge rotates to direct the air straight ahead or to the sides of the unit. The buyers in each air direction cartridge are operated by a tab. Use the tab to direct the air up, down, or straight ahead. 6

7 Caring for Your Air Conditioner Proper care of your air conditioner heps ensure onger ife of the unit and ower operating costs. Foow these instructions carefuy. Eectrka Shock Hazard Unpug the power cord from the receptace before ceaning the unit. Do not use ceaning fuids, sovents, abrasive ceaners, or strong detergents on the air conditioner. Faiure to foow the above precautions coub resut in eectriia shock, persona injury, or product damage. Ceaning the front pane 1. Disconnect power cord from receptace. 2. Remove the front pane for ceaning. Remove the two screws from the bottom edge of the front pane. 3. Lii front pane up and toward you. 4. Remove the side-out air fiter and cean separatey. (See Ceaning the side-out air fiter on page 8.) NOTE: The front pane does not have to be removed to cean fitter. 5. Cean front pane with warm water, mid soap or detergent, and a soft coth. Rinse and dry thoroughy. 6. Wipe contro pane cean with a soft, dry coth. 7. Repace the front pane. 8. Pug in the power cord. a 7

8 Ceaning the side-out air fiter The fiter is ceanabe. A cean fiter heps remove dust, int, and other partices from the air. Check every two weeks to see if fiter needs ceaning. 1. Remove fiter by siding it up and out the top of the front pane. 2. Cean fiter using a vacuum ceaner. OR If very dirty, wash fiter with warm water and mid detergent. Air dry thoroughy before repacing. 3. Repace fiter by siding it back down into opening at top of front pane. Performing annua maintenance Your air conditioner needs annua mintenance to ensure steady, top performance throughout the year. Ca the service company recommended by your deaer to: Inspect and cean the cois and condensate water passages. Check fan and fan motor. The compressor and fan motor are seaed and need no oiing. The expense of an annua inspection is the fzowmets responsibiity. OR If you are famiiar with eectrica appiances, you can do the inspection and maintenance yoursef. If you choose to do so, foow these steps: 1. Disconnect power cord from receptace. 2. Remove the front pane. (See Ceaning the front pane on page 7.) 3. Side unit out of cabinet using the handes on the base fange. Fiter Eectrica Shock Hazard Unpug power cord from receptace before performing any maintenance. Be sure no iquid gets into the motor, eectrica contro box, or compressor eectrica terminas. Do not ift, push, or pu any white beaded foam (expanded poystyrene) park. Because your air conditioner weighs from 110 to 200 pounds, it is recommended that you have someone hep you when you remove or reinsta your unit and that you both use proper ifting techniques. Hande the air conditioner with care. Watch out for the sharp meta fins on the front and rear cois. Do not use the coected water for drinking purposes. It is not sanitary. Faiure to foow the above precautions coud resut in eectrica shock, persona injury, or product damage. 8

9 4. Wrap the motor, eectrica contro box, and the compressor termina box in pastic fim to make sure no water or other iquid gets inside. Water or other iquids coud damage the insuation and cause serious mechanica probems. 5. Cean and hose out the base, cois, and condensate pans. Cean at east once a year, or more often if the condenser cois and pans coect dirt, sand, eaves, insects, or agae. Aso, cean if you detect an odor coming from the air conditioner. 6. Remove pastic fim from motor and eectrica parts. 7. Repace unit in the cabinet. 6. Repace the front pane. 9. Pug in the power cord. NOTE: It is a good idea to wait 24 hours before starting the unit again. This aows time for a areas to dry thoroughy. The water from rainfa or from norma operation does not harm the components. L\-p Handes Saving energy Improve your home s insuation. Sea a doors and windows. Cose the firepace fue. Cose binds or drapes on the sunny side of the house. Add window awnings. Keep the air fitter cean. Do not bock the airfow from the air conditioner with drapes or furniture. Ventiate the attic. High temperatures in the attic add to the cooing oad. Try not to use heat-producing appiances during the hottest part of the day. Turn ights and appiances off when not needed. Keep heat registers and coo-air returns cosed. Use exhaust venting fans whie cooking, doing aundry, or bathing. 9

Sounds may aso be caused by house construction - such as vibration of the unit due to wa construction or an unsteady window mounting area. 10
