Load the dryer by the amount of space items take up, not by their weight. Do not overoad the dryer. Overcrowding causes uneven drying and wrinking, and can cause items to wear out faster (because of piing). You may need to rearrange arge items (sheets, bankets, tabecoths) during a cyce to reduce baing or roing up. Reduce wrinking of permanent press and synthetics by drying smaer oads and removing items from the dryer as soon as tumbing stops. For better tumbing action when drying ony a few sma items, add one or two int-free towes. This aso prevents sma, ightweight items from bocking airfow. 20

PROBLEM Greasy spots Lnt CHECK IF Dryer fabric softeners were used Undiuted washer fabric softener was used Enough detergent was used Items were cean before they were dried Lint screen is cogged Load is propery sorted Static eectricity is attracting int Load is too big or heavy Paper or tissue was in pocket Enough detergent was used Piing is being mistaken for int CAUSES/SOLUTIONS Foow manufacturer s directions carefuy. Diute fabric softener before adding to the fina rinse. Use enough detergent to hod soi in the wash water unti it drains away. Undrained soi can stick to outer tub of the washer and cause greasy spots with next oad. Soied items can stain other items in the Icad. They can aso eave stains on the dryer drum that can be picked up by items in ater oads. Dryer heat may permanenty set these stains. Cean int screen. (See page 15.) Sort int-givers (bath towes, etc.) from inttakers (synthetics, permanent press). Use fabric softener in the washer s fina rinse. Use correct dryer settings for fabric. Overdrying synthetics can cause intattracting static eectricity. Dry smaer oads. When items can t tumbe freey, air is unabe to carry int to int screen. Empty pockets carefuy. A sma scrap of paper can cause a ot of int. Use enough detergent to hod the int in the water unti it drains away. Base detergent amount on water hardness and soi in wash oad. Piing (surface fuzz) is caused by norma wear and aundering. Pis do not break away easiy from the fabric and can often coect int. Synthetic fabrics are more ikey to pi than others, especiay at neckbands, ebows and knees. 24

25 PROBLEM Shrnkng Sow drying Static eectrcty CHECK IF Items are overdried Fabric type and quaity is suitabe for drying There is a arge amount of moisture in the oad to be dried Cod rinse water is used Room air temperature is beow 45 F (7 C) Dryer is exhausted according to Instaation Instructions Lint screen is cogged Exhaust duct or outside exhaust hood is cogged Proper eectrica suppy is used Load is overdried Fabric softener is used Synthetics, synthetic bends, permanent press and knits are in oad CAUSES/SOLUTIONS Remove items whie there is sti a trace of moisture. Some items shoud be removed whie damp, then shaped and air dried. Some knits are stretched during manufacturing. Washing and drying returns them to the origina size. This is norma. Check quaity of garment before buying. Foow fabric care abe directions carefuy. Some items hod more moisture than others (cottons more than poyester). They take onger to dry. Fu oads take onger to dry than sma oads of the same fabric. A oad rinsed in cod water wi take sighty onger to dry than a warm one. Cod rinses, however, hep save energy and reduce wrinking more than warm rinses do. Insta dryer in a room where the air temperature is warmer than 45 F (7 C). Cod air increases drying time and may cause wrinkes not to be removed. Insta and exhaust your dryer according to the Instaation Instructions provided. Cean int screen before or after each use. Cean if needed. Propery connect the dryer to a grounded eectrica circuit that meets the eectrica requirements stated in the Instaation Instructions. Remove items whie there is sti a trace of moisture. Use a fabric softener and foow package directions carefuy. Synthetics, synthetic bends, permanent press and knits buid up static eectricity. Use a fabric softener and be carefu not to overdry the oad. 25

26 If You Need Assistance Or Service 1. Before caing for assistance...! - Is the power cord pugged in? Is int screen cogged with int? P!i - Is exhaust duct or outside exhaust hood pugged with int? PROBLEM Dryer wi not run Dryer wi not heat Drying time too ong CHECK THE FOLLOWING Is the dryer door firmy cosed? Did you firmy push ON/SELECT and/or START? Is the cyce in the ast few minutes? (There is no heat during that time.) If you have a gas dryer, are the vaves open on both the dryer and the suppy ine? Is your int screen cean? (See the Sow drying section of the tabe on page 25 for additiona information.) 26
