5 Operating Your Washer To obtain the best washing resuts, you must operate your washer propery. This section gives you this important information. Page references are incuded for more information. Starting Your Washer Add measured detergent to the washer. Then pace a sorted oad of cothes In the washer. Sort and oad cothes as described on page 10. If desired, you may aso add coor-safe a-fabric beach. (OPTIONAL STEP) If desred, add measured qud chorine beach to the qud beach dispenser (see page 8). Use ony iquid chorine beach in the beach dispenser. Cose the washer id. Seect a oad size. Turn the Load Size Seector to the setting that corresponds with the size of the wash oad and the type of fabric being washed. To change the oad size setting after the washer has started to fi, move the Seector to the desired new setting. See pages 10 and 11 for oading tips. Liquid beach dkpeneer 5. Seect a wash-rinse temperature wth the Water Temperature Seector. Match the water temperature wth the type of fabric and sos being washed. SW page 12 for water temperature guideines. Three wash-rinse temperatures are avaiabe: cod-cod, warm-cod, and hot-cod. 8. Push In and turn the Cyce Contro Knob cockwise to the wash cyce you want (see page 6). 6 Stopping/restarting your washer If necessary, you can stop your washer during a cyce to add more cothes, or add fabric softener to the fina rinse (see page 8). To stop the washer at any time, push in the Cyce Contro Knob. To restart the washer, cose the id (if necessary) and pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. Seecting a cyce Use the information in this section to hep you make the best cyce seections for your wash oads. Each cyce is designed for different types of fabrics and soi eves. Heavy Cyce The Heavy cyce features high agitation and spin speeds. Use 14 minutes of wash time to cean arge toads of heaviy constructed fabrics that are moderatey to heaviy soied. Norma Cyce The Norma cyce features high spin speeds to shorten drying time. Use 12 minutes of wash time to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are moderatey to heaviy soied. 6 Permanent Press Cyce The Permanent Press cyce features a coodown rinse and ow spin speeds to reduce wrinking. Use 10 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetic fabriis that are ighty to moderatey soied. The washer pauses briefy during the Permanent Press cyce. These pauses are norma for washer operation. Knits/Deicate Cyce The Knits/Deicate cyce features a reduced agitation speed for gente soi remova. Low spin speeds reduce wrinking. Use 8 minutes of wash time to cean deicate items and washabe knits that are ighty to moderatey soied.

7 Using rinse and spin When using extra detergent for heaviy soied cothes, or washing specia-care items, you may want an extra rinse and spin. 1. Push in Cyce Contro Knob and turn cockwiie unti indicator points to RINSE, as iustrated. 2. Pu out Cyce Contro Knob. The washer fis to seected oad size, agitates, drains, and spins. Using drain and spin A drain and spin may hep shorten drying times for some heavy fabrics or specia-care items by removing excess water. 1. Push in Cyce Contro Knob and turn cockwise unti indicator points to SPIN, as iustrated. 2. Pu out Cyce Contro Knob. The washer drains and then spins. What happens in each cyce When the Cyce Contro Knob is set to a number and pued out, the washer fis (to the seected oad size) before agitation and timing start. The washer begins agitating immediatey after fiing; agitation can occur with the washer id up or down. After agitation starts, the Cyce Contro Knob turns cockwise unti it points to an OFF area and the cyce ends. The washer pauses briefy during the Permanent Press cyce. 8 Using the iquid chorine beach dispenser Aways measure iquid chorine beach. Do not guess. Never use more than 1 cup (250 ml) for a fu oad. Use ess with ower water eve settings. Foow manufacturer s directions for safe use. Use a cup with a pouring spout to avoid spiing. 1. Load the washer. 2. Pour measured chorine beach carefuy into the dispenser. Adding fabric softeners Aways diute fabric softeners with $5 to 1 cup (125 to 250 m) warm water. Undiuted fabric softener can stain fabrics. Add diuted fabrii softener ony in the fina rinse. Fabric softeners shoud not be mixed with other aundry products because greasy stains may form. f stains form, remove by wetting the stain and rubbing with iquid detergent or a bar of soap. Rewash the stained item. Too much fabric softener can make some items (diapers and towes) nonabsorbent. If thii happens, use ess fabric softener or do not use it every time. If storing or moving your washer during freezing weather, winterize it. To winterize washer: To use washer again: 1. Shut off both water faucets. 1. Fush water pipes and hoses. 2. Remove pins, buckes, and other hard objects to avoid scratching the washer interiir. Remove non-washabe trim and ornaments. Empty pockets and turn them inside out. Turn down cuffs, brush away int and dirt. Sorting Separate heaviy-soied items from ightysoied ones, even if they woud normay be washed together. 14 Removing Stains Stained, heavity-soied, or greasy items may need to be prewashed or soaked for best resuts. Soaking heps remove protein-type stains ike bood, mik, or grass. Prewashing heps oosen soi before washing. Stain remova rues Use warm water for soaking or prewashing stained aundry. Hot water can set stains. Most stains are easier to remove when they are fresh. Before treating any stain, find out what kind of stain it is, how od the stain is, what kind of fabric it is, and if the fabric is coorfast. (Check the care abe.) Washing and drying can set some stains. Start with cod or warm water. Hot water can set some stains. Test stain removers on an inside seam or hidden wrner of the item to see if the coor is removed. Put the stained area face down on a paper towe or white coth. Appy the stain remover to the back of the stain. This forces the stain off the fabric instead of through it. Meat tenderizer or enzyme presoaks hep break down some protein stains so they are easier to remove. These stains turn brown with age, so treat immediatey. Sponge or soak fresh stains with cod water. Wash. If stain remains, soak 15 minutes in a soution of ukewarm water, iquid detergent, and a few drops of white vinegar. Rinse. Wash. Rinse immediatey or soak in cod water with enzyme presoak for 30 minutes or onger. Rinse. Rub detergent into any remaining stains. Rinse. If stain remains, put a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide on stain for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughy. Wash. Use ice to make gum hard. Scrape off what you can. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Let dry. Wash. Sponge immediatey with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or appy a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. If stain remains, appty a iquid detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Crayon and cande wax Cream, miiq or ice cream Scrape off excess with a du knife. Pace fabric between two botters or facia tissue. Press with warm iron. Remove coor stain with nonfammabe fabrii ceaner. Hand wash unti stain is gone. If fu toad is crayon stained, take to ceaners or coin-operated dry ceaning machine. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner, or a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. Repeat procedure for fresh stains. Grass or Soak in warm or cod water with an enzyme presoak for at east green 30 minutes, or sponge with denatured acoho. If stain remains, appy a products iquid detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Lipstick Appy nonfammabe fabric ceaner or prewash soi and stain remover. Midew Wash in hottest water safe for fabrii. If stain remains, soak in warm water and an a-fabric beach for 15 to 30 minutes. Rewash. (Od midew stains are amost impossibe to remove. Midew fungus destroys or weakens fabrics.) An aternative to beach is to treat with sat and emon juice and dry in direct sunight. Rinse and rewash. Midew may form if wet or damp aundry remains in your washer for extended periods of time. To prevent midew, prompty dry aundry after washing. Mustard Treat immediatey. Scrape off excess mustard. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Work iquid detergent and a few drops of vinegar into stain. Rinse. f stain remains, appy 3% hydrogen peroxide. Rinse and wash. Paint Hand wash paint-stained items. Water base: Treat stains whie sti wet. (These paints cannot be removed after they have dried.) Rinse in warm water to fush out paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Rinse. Wash. Oi base: Scrape off fresh paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or treat stain with recommended thinner. Whie stain is sti wet with sovent, rub iquid detergent into it. Wash with hottest water safe for fabrii. Perspiration Remove stains before ironing. Perspiration stains may weaken fabric. Wash or sponge stain thoroughy with detergent and warm water. If perspiration has changed the coor of the fabric, use one of the foowing treatments: Fresh stains: Appy ammonia to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove ammonia odor. Od stains: Appy white vinegar to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove vinegar odor. Scorch Severe scorch cannot be removed. Wet stain with 3% hydrogen peroxide.
