3 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS To reduce the risk of fire, eectrica *hock or injury to persons when using your washer, foow basic precautions, Incuding the Read a instructions before using your washer. Do not machine wash or machine dry items ceaned, washed, soaked in, or spotted with wax, paint, gasoine, oi, or other fammabe fuids. The fumes can create a fire hazard or exposion. Aways hand wash and ine dry items containing these materias. Fammabe fuids (dry-ceaning sovents, kerosene, gasoine, etc.) shoud not be used or stored in or near your washer. Do not add fammabe fuids to your wash water. These substances give off vapors that can create a fire hazard or exposion. Do not aow chidren to operate, pay with, or craw on or inside your washer. Supervise chidren cosey when your washer is used near them. See the Instaation Instructions. Understanding your responsibiities Store detergent, aundry aids and other materias in a coo, dry pace where chidren cannot reach them (in a ocked cabinet if possibe). Read and foow instructions on packages of detergent and aundry aids, especiay warnings and precautions. Do not wash or dry items that are soied with vegetabe or cooking oi. These items may contain some oi after aundering. Due to the remaining oi, the fabric may smoke or catch fire by itsef. Do not use chorine beach and ammonia or acids (such as vinegar or rust remover) in the same wash. Hazardous fumes can form.. Unpug power suppy cord before attempting to service your washer. This section gives you important information to hep you to seect a cyce, time, and temperature for your wash oad. Before starting your washer Add measured detergent. Then pace a sorted oad in the washer before starting. See page 12 for additiona Before you wash information. Starting or stopping your washer Starting your washer: 1. Seect a oad size and water temperature. 2. Push in the Cyce Contro Knob and turn it cockwise. Stop when the indicator on the knob s outer ring points to the number (or mark) in the wash cyce you want. The numbers are minutes of wash time. Make other seections, if necessary. 3. Pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. Refer to pages 6-9 for additiona information to hep you make seections. Stoppng and rastartng your washer: To stop the washer at any time, push in the Cyce Contro Knob. To restart the washer, cose the id (if necessary) and pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. Seecting a oad size Position the Load Size Seector at the setting that corresponds to the size oad you want to wash. Seect a oad size based upon the size of the oad and the fabric you are washing. See page 12 for additiona oading information. NOTE: If your washer has a Consumer Feature Guide, remove it and pace it in your Use and Care Guide. Cyces may vary with mode

6 Load size tips Items shoud move freey in the washer. Do not overoad the machine or seect a oad size that is too sma for the wash oad. Use a arge oad size setting for best resuts with permanent press cothes. Reduce wash time when using a sma oad size setting. Loads with ony a few sma items need ess wash time. Seecting wash-rinse temperatures Match the water temperature to the type of fabric and sois being washed. The top temperature is the wash water and the bottom temperature is the rinse water. NOTE: The Reguar cyce features a cod rinses. Water temperature tips Use warm wash water with the Permanent Press and Short cyces. Aways use cod rinse water for permanent press fabrics. For heaviy soied permanent press or knit cothes, prewash or presoak before washing in warm water. See the Water usage guide on page 16 for more information. 7 Heavy cyce The Heavy cyce features onger spins to shorten drying time. Use o-12 minutes of wash time to cean arge oads of sturdiy constructed fabrics that are heaviy soied. Use 6-8 minutes of wash time to cean sturdiy constructed fabrics that are moderatey soied. Reguar cyce The Reguar cyce features onger spins to shorten drying time. A rinses are cod. Use 8-10 minutes of wash time to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are moderatey to heaviy soied oads. Use 6 minutes of wash time to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are ighty soied. NOTE: The Reguar cyce features a cod rinses. Short cyce (on 8ome mode*) The Short cyce features a brief wash cyce and shorter spins.. Use 6 minutes of wash time to cean deicate items and washabe knits that are ighty to moderatey soied. Reguar cyce Permanent Press cyce The Permanent Press cyce features a coo-down rinse and shorter spins to reduce wrinking. Use 6-8 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetic fabrics that are moderatey soied. Use 4 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetics that are ighty soied. NOTE: The washer pauses briefy during the wash cyce. This is norma for washer operation. Short cyce Permanent prees cyce

8 Soak cyce (on some modes) The Soak cyce features brief periods of agitation and soak time to hep remove heavy sois and stains that need pretreatment. Use warm water when soaking aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages 13-5 for stain remova information. Use the amount of detergent or presoak additive recommended by manufacturer. After the Soak cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Pre-Wash (on aome modes) cyce The Pre-Wash cyce features a brief period of high speed agitation to hep remove heavy sois and stains that need pretreatment. Use warm water for prewashing stained aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages 13-5 for stain remova information. After the Pre-Wash cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Soak cyce Using rinse and spin When using extra detergent for heaviy soied cothes, or washing specia-care items, you may want an extra rinse and spin. 1. Push Cyce Contro Knob in and turn cockwise to RINSE, as iustrated. 2. Pu Cyce Contro Knob out. The washer wi fi to seected oad size, agitate, drain, and spin. Using drain and spin A drain and spin may hep shorten drying times for some heavy fabrics or specia-care items by removing excess water. 1. Push Cyce Contro Knob in and turn cockwise to SPIN, as iustrated. 2. Pu Cyce Contro Knob out. The washer wi drain and spin. 8

9 What happens in each cyce When the Cyce Contro Knob is set to a number and pued out, the washer fis (to the seected oad size) before agitation and timing start. The washer wi begin agitating immediatey after fiing; agitation can occur with the washer id up or down. After agitation starts, the Cyce Contro Knob turns cockwise unti it points to OFF and the cyce ends. The washer pauses brety throughout each cyce. These pauses are norma for washer operation. 10 Other Features In This Section Pagb Using the chorine beach dispenser Lint fiters Paw I Your washer may have some of the foowing features. Understanding the use of the features on your machine wi hep you efficienty use your washer. Using the chorine beach dispenser (on 80me modde) Aways measure iquid chorine beach. Do not guess. Never use more than 1 cup (250 ml) for a fu oad. Use ess with ower water eve settings. Foow manufacturer s directions for safe use. Use a cup with a pouring spout to avoid spiing. 1. Load the washer. 2. Pour measured chorine beach carefuy into dispenser. Do not et beach spash, drip or run down into washer basket. Undiuted beach wi damage any fabric it touches. 3. Start the washer. Beach wi be diuted automaticay during wash part of cyce. NOTE: Do not add powered chorine or afabric beach to the dispenser. The dispenser can cog. 10

11 Lint fiters Your washer has a sef-ceaning int fiter (requires no ceaning by you) or a manua cean int fiter. Check the shape of your agitator to see if you need to cean your int fiter. AGTATOR Spira-shaped agitator ABOUT YOUR FILTER FILTER MAGIC CLEAN@ int fiter This int fiter requires no ceaning. (The int fiter at the bottom of the washer basket ceans itsef.) During agitation, wash and rinse water pass over the fiter, separating the int from the water. The int is then spun away from the fiter and out of the system during the spin part of the cyce. If your washer drains into a tub, remove any CLEAN interior int fiter int coected in the tub or strainer. Manua cean int fiter NOTE: If your agitator is barre shaped with 5 fins at the base, your fiter requires no ceaning. If your agitator is barre shaped with 4 fins at the base, your machine has a manua cean int fiter. Cean the fiter at the bottom of the agitator after every oad for best fitering resuts. To cean: fin hrr&,bam 1. Lift off the agitator barre. agitator 2. Wash or wipe the fiter cean in the bottom of the agitator barre. The fiter is not removabe. 3. Repace agitator barre. Remove unwashabe trim and ornaments. Empty pockets and turn them inside out. Turn down cuffs and brush away int and dirt. Turn synthetic knits inside out to avoid piing. Tie strings and sashes so they wi not tange. Mend tears, oose hems and seams. Treat spots and stains. (See page 13 for pretreatment and stain remova information.) Stained or wet garments shoud be washed prompty for best resuts. Sorting Separate heaviy soied items from ighty soied ones even if they woud normay be washed together. Separate int givers (towes, chenie) from int takers (corduroy, synthetics, permanent press). When possibe, turn int givers inside out. Separate dark from ight coors, coorfast from noncoorfast. Sort by fabric and construction (sturdy cottons, knits, deicate items). Loading Drop items into washer oosey. Fi to the top of the basket, but do not pack or wrap items around the agitator. Items shoud move easiy through wash water for best Ia ceaning and wrinke-free resuts. Watch for roover. Items shoud sink and reappear ater. Load washer propery. Overoading or packing can: -cause poor ceaning. -increase wrinking. -create excessive int. -wear out items faster (because of piing). Load by the amount of space items take up, not by their weight. Mix arge and sma items in each oad. Load eveny to maintain washer baance. An off-baance oad j can make the machine vibrate during spin. To reduce wrinking,!iea permanent press and synthetic knits shoud have more room to move in the water than heavy items (towes, jeans). 12

Soaking heps remove protein-type stains ike bood, mik, or grass. Prewashing heps oosen soi before washing. Pre-washing or soaking Use warm water for soaking or prewashing stained aundry. Hot water can set stains. Stain remova rues Most stains are easier to remove when they are fresh. Od or set stains may not come out. Foow package directions for pretreatment products.. Before treating any stain, find out What kind of stain it is. 2. What kind of fabric it is and if it is coorfast. (Check abe.) 3. How od the stain is. (Washing and drying can set some stains.) Start with cod or warm water. Hot water can set some stains. When beach is recommended, use a beach that is safe for the fabric. Diute chorine beach. Test stain removers on an inside seam or hidden corner of the item to see if the coor is removed. Put the stained area face down on a paper towe or white coth. Appy the stain remover to the back of the stain. This can force the stain off the fabric instead of through it. Meat tenderizer or enzyme presoaks hep break down some protein stains so they are easier to remove. Use nonfammabe dry ceaning sovents in a we-ventiated room. 13

Rinse immediatey or soak in cod water with enzyme presoak for 30 minutes or onger. Rinse. Rub detergent into any remaining stains. Rinse. If stain remains, put a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide on stain for 3-5 minutes. Rinse thoroughy. Wash. Use ice to make gum hard. Scrape off what you can. Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. Let dry. Wash. Sponge immediatey with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent or appfy a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. If stain remains, appy a iquid detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Crayon and Scrape off excess with a du knife. Pace fabric between two botters or facia cande wax tissue. Press with warm iron. Remove coor stain with nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. Hand wash unti stain is gone. If fu oad is crayon stained, take to ceaners or coin-operated dry ceaning machine. Cream, mik Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent, or a prewash soi and stain or ice cream remover. Rinse. Wash. Repeat if necessary. If stain remains, appy a few drops of iquid detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Bot dry and rinse. If stain remains, soak in an enzyme presoak. Wash. Deodorants Lght stan: Treat with iquid detergent or your reguar aundry detergent. Wash and anti- in hottest water safe for fabric. perspirants Heavy stan: Pace face down on towe and treat with a paste of ammonia and a-fabric beach. Let stand for 30 minutes. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. Fat, grease or oi Fruit stains Grass or w-n vegetabes Ink or bapoint pen ink 14 Items soied with vegetabe or cooking oi shoud not be washed or dried. Use tacum powder to absorb as much grease as possibe. Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. Rinse. Wash. Treat with iquid detergent or rub a detergent paste on the stain. Wash using hottest water safe for fabric. Fresh stans: Soak immediatey in coo water. Wash. If stain remains, cover area with a paste made of a-fabric beach, a few drops of hot water and a few drops of ammonia. Wait 15 to 30 minutes. Wash. Od stains: stains. Sponge with white vinegar. Rinse. Repeat procedure for fresh Soak in warm or cod water with an enzyme presoak for at east 30 minutes, or sponge with denatured acoho. Wash in water temperature and beach safe for the fabric. For coored fabrics, check coorfastness before appying acoho. For acetate, sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. If stain remains, beach with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Rinse. Rewash. Spray stain with an aeroso hair spray or rubbing acoho. Sponge stain continuousy unti a beeding stops. Let dry. Repeat if necessary. Wash. If stain remains, beach if safe for fabric. (India and other indeibe inks are amost impossibe to remove competey.)

15 STAIN TO REMOVE Iron or rust Coored or noncoorfast tems: Appy emon juice and sat. Pace in the sun to dry. Rinse thoroughy. Repeat if necessary. White or coorast items: Try a rust remover. Test first on inside seam or hem. Some rust removers are not washer safe. Foow package directions. Ketchup or Sponge immediatey with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent or appy a tomato prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. If stain remains, appy a iquid products detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Lipstick Meat juice, egg Midew Mustard Paint Perspiration Scorch Soft drinks Appy nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent or prewash soi and stain remover. Bot with absorbent materia. Repeat if necessary. Rinse. If stain sti remains, rub with iquid detergent. Wash. Scrape off excess with a du knife. Soak in cod or warm water with enzyme presoak at east 30 minutes, or treat stains with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. Wash. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. If stain remains, soak in warm water and an a-fabric beach for 15 to 30 minutes. Rewash. (Od midew stains are amost impossibe to remove. Midew fungus destroys or weakens fabrics.) An aternative to beach is to treat with sat and emon juice and dry in direct sunight. Rinse and rewash. Midew may form if wet or damp aundry remains in your washer for extended periods of time. To prevent midew, prompty dry aundry after washing. Treat immediatey. Scrape off excess mustard. Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent or a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Work iquid detergent and a few drops of vinegar into stain. Rinse. If stain remains, appy 3% hydrogen peroxide. Rinse and wash. Hand wash paint-stained items. Water base: Treat stains whie sti wet. (These paints cannot be removed after they have dried.) Rinse in warm water to fush out paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent. Rinse. Wash. 011 base: Scrape off fresh paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe dry ceaning sovent or treat stain with recommended thinner. Whie stain is sti wet with sovent, rub iquid detergent into it. Wash with hottest water safe for fabric. Remove stains before ironing. Perspiration stains may weaken fabric. Wash or sponge stain thoroughy with detergent and warm water. If perspiration has changed the coor of the fabric, use one of the foowing treatments: Fresh stans: Appy ammonia to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove ammonia odor. Od stans: odor. Appy white vinegar to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove vinegar Severe scorch cannot be removed. Wet stain with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Cover with a dry coth and press with an iron as hot as is safe for fabric. Rinse we. Wash. OR Wet with emon juice and spread in the sun to dry. Wash. Sponge immediatey with cod water and acoho. Heat and detergent may set stain. 15

17 Using aundry aids Foow package instructions when using aundry aids. (See Removing Stains on page 13, for more information.) Chorine beach Use beach dispenser if your machine has one. (See page 10.) If your washer does not have a beach dispenser: 1. Let the washer fi and begin agitating the oad. 2. Measure beach. Never use more than 1 cup (250 ml) for a fu oad. Diute measured beach in 1 quart (1L) of water. 3. Add beach to wash cyce so it can be removed in the rinse cyce. Pour beach around agitator, not directy on oad. Foow directions on care abes. Do not use chorine beach on woo, sik, spandex, acetates or some fame-retardant fabrics. When soaking with chorine beach, add detergent to soak water. NOTE: Undiuted beach wi damage any fabric it touches. The damage appears as rips, hoes, tears or coor oss and may not show up unti severa washings ater. A-fabric beach Powdered or iquid a-fabric beach may be used on a types of fabrics. Do not use a-fabric beach in the beach dispenser because it may cog. Detergent Using too itte detergent is a common cause of aundry probems. Foow manufacturer s directions. Measure accuratey, especiay when using utra detergents. Package directions are usuay based on: -moderate water hardness (4-6 grains) -ighty soied items -norma mix oads. Use more detergent for: -hard water -cooer wash water -fu oads -heaviy soied items. Do not judge the amount of detergent to use by the amount of suds in the machine. Low sudsing detergents do not create as many suds as norma sudsing detergents. If the recommended amount of norma sudsing detergent creates too many suds or suds are present in the rinse water, try a ow sudsing detergent. Fabric softeners Use fabric softener dispenser if your machine has one. If your washer does not have a fabric softener dispenser, add diuted fabric softener ony in the fina rinse. Aways diute fabric softeners with /z to 1 cup (125 to 250 ml) warm water. Undiuted fabric softener can stain fabrics. Fabric softeners shoud not be mixed with other aundry products because greasy stains may form. If stains form, remove by wetting the stain and rubbing with iquid detergent or a bar of soap. Rewash the stained item. Too much fabric softener can make some items (diapers and towes) nonabsorbent. If this happens, use ess fabric softener or do not use it every time. Fire or Exposion Hazard Store fammabe sovents or iquids away from your washer. Dry ceaning sovents or fuids shoud not be put directy into your washer. Items treated with sovents shoud be rinsed and air dried before washing in your washer. The fumes from these substances can create a fire hazard or exposion. Seect water temperature, cyce, and time and wooen according to the type of banket being washed. Two rinses may be necessary. If manufacturer recommends machine washing: 1. Measure banket before washing. 2. Add mid detergent to washer. Fi and agitate briefy to dissove detergent. 3. Stop washer. Load banket eveny around agitator. Soak 10 to 15 minutes. 4. Diapers Eastic, spandex NOTE: Sun-damaged curtains and draper* wi tear whether hand or machine washed. Repace sipcovers whie sti sighty damp. They wi dry to fit tighty. When using chorine beach for soaking, add detergent to oad. Avoid overuse of fabric softeners. Absorbency wi be reduced. 1. Rinse immediatey. Soak in a soution of ukewarm water and a sma amount of detergent unti you are ready to wash them. You may wish to use beach or a specia soaking product when soaking. 2. Spin excess water from diapers before washing. 3. Wash diapers as you woud wash white cottons and inens. Eastic picks up oi from the body. Oi can damage eastic. Wash often to hep reduce the damage. 19 Fibergass materias Knits Do not wash fibergass materias in your washer. Gass partices coud stick to the next oad and cause skin irritation. Knits are comfortabe to wear because they stretch. However, this means that knits are more ikey to be stretched and damaged when washed (especiay buky knits). Knits made of synthetic fabrics such as poyester, nyon, and acryic tend to keep their origina shape more than a knit made of cotton or ramie. 1. Cose zippers, fasten hooks and eyes to prevent snagging. 2. Wash sma oads to reduce piing and int. 21 Caring for your washer. Wipe up detergent, beach, and other spis with a soft, damp coth or sponge as they occur. Remove hard water deposits using ony ceaners abeed as washer safe. If the washer interior needs ceaning (for exampe, after tinting or dyeing), put 1 cup (250 ml) of chorine beach and 2 cups (500 ml) of detergent in the washer. Run through a compete cyce using hot water. If staining occurs on foowing oads, repeat the process. Sharp or heavy objects can damage your washer. Check pockets for bots, nuts, etc. Do not ay these objects on your washer after emptying pockets. NOTE: Operate your washer ony when you are at home. Care during periods of non-use Winter storage or moving care Insta and store your washer where it wi not freeze. Because some water stays in the washer, freezing can damage it. If your washer is stored or moved during freezing weather, winterize it. 1. Shut off both water faucets. Disconnect the drain water inet hoses. 2. Put 1 quart (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze in the basket. 3. Run washer on a drain and spin setting (see page 8Jfor about 30 seconds to mix the antifreeze and water. 4. Unpug power suppy cord. To use the washer agan: 1. Fush water pipes and hoses. 2. Reconnect water inet hoses. 3. Turn on both water faucets. 4. Reconnect power suppy cord. 5. Run the washer through a compete cyce with 1 cup (250 ml) of detergent to cean out antifreeze. Non-use/vacation care 1. Unpug power suppy cord or turn off eectrica power. 2.
