4 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS To reduce the risk of fire, eectrica shock, or injury to persons when using your dryer, foow basic precautions, incuding the foowing: Read a instructions before using your dryer. 9 Do not machine wash or machine dry items ceaned, washed, soaked in, or spotted with wax, paint, gasoine, oi, and other fammabe fuids. The fumes can create a fire hazard or exposion. Aways hand wash and ine dry items containing these materias. Do not aow chidren to operate, pay with or craw inside your dryer. Supervise chidren when your dryer is used near chidren. Do not reach into a dryer if the drum is moving. When removing from service or discarding a dryer, aways remove the door to prevent accidenta entrapment. Do not dry rubber, rubber-ike, and heat sensitive materias with heat. Insta and/or store dryer where it wi not be exposed to the weather. Do not tamper with the contros. Faiure to do so can cause serious injury, oss of ife, eectric shock, fire, or exposion. You are responsibe for making sure that your dryer is instaed, repaired and has parts repaced by a quaified person. Use ony fabric softeners specificay abeed as not being harmfu to the dryer. Do not aow int to buid-up inside the dryer or exhaust system. Ceaning shoud be done periodicay by a quaified person. Cean int screen before or after each oad. Understanding your responsibiities Never operate the dryer if: -it is not working right (i.e. noisy, too hot). -it is damaged. -parts are missing (i.e. door atch). -a panes are not in pace. -the int screen is oose, damaged or missing. Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off eectrica power before attempting to service your dryer. Shut off gas vave if you have a gas dryer. Do not wash or dry items that are soied with vegetabe or cooking oi. These items may contain some oi after aundering. Due to the remaining oi, the fabric may smoke or catch fire by itsef. You are responsibe for making sure that your dryer: -is propery instaed and eveed on a foor that can support the weight in a we-ventiated room.* -is connected to the proper outet and eectrica suppy.* -is propery connected to fue and exhaust systems (gas dryers must be vented outdoors).* -is ocated in an area where the temperature is above 45 F (7 C). -is propery maintained. -is used ony for jobs normay expected of home cothes dryers. -is not used by anyone unabe to operate it propery. This section gives you important information for efficient and safe use of your dryer. Before starting your dryer Refer to the information beow, and Laundry Tips for contro setting, sorting and oading information. Starting or stopping your dryer Starting or stopping your dryer: Cose the door and seect a cyce, time, and temperature (if necessary). See pages 7-10 for additiona setting information. Your dryer automaticay stops when a cyce ends. Stoppng and restartng your dryer: Open the dryer door or turn the Cyce Contro Knob to OFF. Cose the door; make new seections (if necessary). Push the Start Button. NOTE: The Cyce Contro Knob shoud point to an OFF area when the dryer is not in use. If the dryer is stopped before the cyce is finished, turn the Cyce Contro Knob to an OFF area. End-of-cyce signa (on 8ome modes) The dryer sounds a signa to et you know when the cyce is finished. The signa cannot be turned off and is not adjustabe (uness you have an End-of-Cyce Signa seector). The signa is hepfu when you are drying permanent press, synthetics and other items that shoud be taken out as soon as the dryer stops. t your mode has an End-o+Cyce Sgna seector: Turn the End-of-Cyce Signa seector to ON if you desire a signa to et you know when the cyce is finished. Turn the End-of-Cyce Signa seector to OFF if you do not desire a signa when the cyce is finished. 6

7 Seecting a cyce-temperature The information you need to make correct cyce and temperature decisions is given in this section. Pages 8-10: Use these pages to find additiona information about drying cyces that may be on your mode. Pages 11-14: Find the page that has a contro pane simiar to yours. Use this page to quicky ocate cyce and temperature information about your mode. t your dryer has a cyce contro knob with temperatures bu&in: 1. Seect a cyce and temperature by turning the Cyce Contro Knob either way. 2. Stop when the indicator on the knob s outer ring points to the cyce/temperature and time you want. See pages 8-10 for further cyce information. OR t your dryer has a cyce contro temperature seector: knob and a 1. Seect a cyce by turning the Cyce Contro Knob either way. 2. 8 Using the air cyce (no heat) Fire Hazard Do not dry pastic or rubber items with heat. Use the air cyce, or ine dry. Faiure to do so coud resut in fire or damaged items. The dryer does not heat when the Cyce Contro Knob is set in the air cyce. This cyce can be used to fuff or air dry bedding, pastic tabecoths, foam rubber piows, stuffed toys, sneakers, etc. 1. Turn the Cyce Contro Knob to the number of minutes you want in the air cyce. Refer to the chart beow for suggested times. 2. Push the Start Button. NOTE: Repeat steps above if more time is needed to dry items. TYPE OF LOAD AIR DRYERS WITH A TEMPERATURE SELECTOR RUBBER, PLASTIC, HEAT-SENSITIVE Foam Rubber-Piows, bras, stuffed toys Pastic-Shower curtains, tabecoths Rubber-backed rugs Oefin, Poypropyene, Sheer nyon FABRICS min min min min No temperature needs to be seected. Cyce is unheated. Using the Wrinke Free cyce (on some modes) The Wrinke Free cyce removes wrinkes from cothing that has been packed in a suitcase or coset, and from items not removed from the dryer at the end of a cyce. 1. Set the Cyce Contro Knob on WRINKLE FREE. (If your mode has a Temperature Seector, set the Temperature Seector to a high setting.) 2. Push the Start Button. For best resuts, put ony a few items at a time in this cyce. As soon as the dryer stops, put the items on hangers or fod them.

9 Using the Damp Dry cyce (on some modes) Use this setting to dry damp items that do not require an entire drying cyce, or to dry items to damp eve. (Two exampes are heavy cottons, such as jeans, which you do not want to become stiff, or cotton cothes which are easier to press when damp.) 1. Set the Cyce Contro Knob on DAMP DRY (If your mode has a Temperature Seector, set the Temperature Seector to a high setting.) LJ;eve;;anding Wrinke (on some modes) When you are unabe to remove a oad from the dryer as soon as it stops, wrinkes can form. When using the automatic cyce, Wrinke Prevent tumbes the oad without heat every few minutes for up to 45 minutes after the cyce has ended. This tumbing rearranges and fuffs the oad to hep avoid wrinkes that set in when the oad remains in the dryer. You do not have to set the Cyce Contro Knob for Wrinke Prevent. Wrinke Prevent takes over automaticay to protect the oad if you do not open the door within a few minutes after the automatic cyce stops. A signa wi sound every few minutes during Wrinke Prevent, for up to 45 minutes. The signa wi stop when the dryer door is opened. 9

10 Using the Timed Dry cyce (on some modes) Use the Timed Dry cyce for any oad you want to dry by time. This cyce is designed for sma oads or arge buky items. Turn the Cyce Contro Knob to the number of minutes you want in the Timed Dry cyce. For a damp dry, turn the Cyce Contro Knob to 30 minutes or ess. (If your dryer has a Damp Dry cyce, see Using the Damp Dry cyce on page 9.) The ast few minutes of this cyce are without heat to hep make the oad easier to hande. Using the automatic cyce (on some modes) Your automatic contro senses the dryness of the oad and automaticay shuts off when the seected dryness is reached. For the first few oads: 1. Set the cyce Contro Knob to point to the center mark in your automatic cyce. 2. If your dryer has a Temperature Seector, seect a heat setting to match your oad. 3. Fee the dried items when the dryer stops. Ii the Items are drer than you ike, seect a setting coser to LESS DRY the next time you dry a simiar oad. If Items are not as dry as you ike, seect a setting coser to VERY DRY the next time you dry a simiar oad. The Cyce Contro Knob wi not move unti the oad is amost dry or the coo-down portion of the cyce has been reached. After the coodown portion is compete, the Cyce Contro Knob automaticay moves to an OFF area and tumbing stops. NOTE: Your mode wi not ook exacty ike the iustrations. 10

Usng your heated cyce Your heated cyce provides the specia care that cottons, permanent press and some synthetic fabrics need. The cyce consists of a timed period of heated drying and a brief coodown period. During the coo down, the oad S&t button tumbes without heat. This heps keep wrinkes from setting in and makes the oad easier to hande. NOTE: To hep reduce wrinking, remove the oad from the dryer as soon as tumbing stops. This is important for permanent press, knits and synthetic fabrics. Do not overdry. Overdrying can cause shrinkage, static cing, and damage some fabrics. 15 Caring For Your Dryer In This Section Page Page Maintenance-every oad Mantenanc-s needed Dryers require reguar maintenance. Foow the suggestions beow to maintain your dryer propery. Maintenance-every Ceaning the int screen The int screen is ocated under a id on top of the dryer. Cean i before each oad. A screen bocked by int can increase drying time. oad Product and Fabric Damage Hazard Do not run the dryer with the int screen oose, damaged, bocked or missing. Doing so can cause overheating and damage to both the dryer and fabrics. 1. Open the id and pu the int screen straight out. 2. Ro int off the screen with your fingers. Do not rinse or wash the screen to remove int. Wet int is hard to remove. 3. Push the int screen firmy back into pace and cose the id. Lint signa (on some modes) Restricted airfow reduces drying efficiency. The signa (a whiste tone) ets you know if the airfow is restricted. Turn off the dryer and cean the int screen. NOTE: Cean your int screen before each oad. Do not wait for the int signa. The int signa indicates excessive int present on your int screen. If you wait for the int signa before you cean the int screen, drying efficiency wi be reduced. 15

16 Maintenance-as needed Use the foowing suggestions about ceaning and int remova to hep you keep your dryer safe, ooking ike new, and at peak operating efficiency. Ceaning a cogged int screen Laundry detergents and fabric softeners can cause a residue buid-up on the int screen. A cogged int screen can extend drying times. Cean the int screen every six months or more frequenty if it becomes cogged due to a residue buid-up. Use the foowing method: 1. Wet both sides of int screen with hot water. 2. Wet a nyon brush with hot water and iquid detergent. 3. Scrub int screen with the brush unti a residue buid-up is removed. 4. Rinse with hot water. 5. Thoroughy dry int screen with a cean towe and repace in dryer. Ceaning the dryer interior Garments which contain unstabe dyes, such as denim bue jeans or brighty coored cotton items, may discoor the dryer interior. If you want to remove stains from dryer drum use one of the foowing methods: Powdered aundry detergent 1. Make a paste with detergent and very warm water. 2. Appy paste to a soft coth and scrub area unti a excess dye is removed. 3. Wipe thoroughy with a damp coth. 4. Tumbe a oad of rags to dry. Lqud non-fammabe househod ceaner 1. Appy to stained area. 2. Rub with a coth unti a excess dye is removed. 3. Wipe thoroughy with a damp coth. 4. Tumbe a oad of rags to dry. Ceaning the dryer exterior Wipe with a soft, damp coth. Eectrca Shock, Persona InJury and Fre Hazard Turn off the eectrica power before ceaning the interior.. Make sure the dryer is coo. Use non-fammabe ceaner. Faiure to do so coud resut in eectrica shock or injury, fire or exposion. 16

17 Removing accumuated int Lint can gather inside the dryer and be a fue for fire. It is recommended the int be removed every 2 to 3 years, or more often, depending on dryer usage. Ceaning shoud be done by a quaified person. If you have any questions, pease ca our Consumer Assistance Center at ~ROPER. EectrIca Shock and Persona Injury Hazard Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off the eectrica power before removing dryer panes. Make sure the dryer is coo. Dryer parts can have sharp edges. Use care when handing. When repacing front pane after int remova, the wire cips hoding the door switch wires must be anchored to top of front and side panes. Wires MUST NOT touch rotating drum. (See page 18, step 7.) Faiure to do so coud resut in eectrica shock or persona injury. For a eectric dryers, or gas dryers which have a ower front access pane: NOTE: See page 18 if your dryer is gas and has a fu front pane. 1. Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off the eectrica power. 2. Remove back pane (eectric) or ower front access pane (gas). See Instaation Instructions. 3. Remove int from shaded area in iustration with a soft brush or vacuum ceaner. Avoid damaging wires, thermostats (eectric), funne (gas) or igniter (gas). 4. Repace pane; reconnect and eve dryer again, if necessary. Thermoststs Heat eement Eectric dryer with back pane removed Gas dryer with ower front access removed pane 17

18 f your dryer Is gas and has a fu front pane, remove front pane as foows: 1. Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off the eectrica power. 2. Open int screen id. Remove two screws from int screen area. 3. Open top by puing forward and up at each front corner (see View A). Rest raised top against wa behind dryer (top is hinged at rear). 4. Remove two interna screws from front pane fanges (near top front corners). Lift front pane sighty, ifting off ower cips (see View B). Sowy pu front pane forward, disengaging pane from drum. (Drum wi drop sighty.) 5. Move front pane aside and rest edge against side of dryer. Avoid disconnecting wire cips (see View C) or damaging wires. 6. Remove int from area shown in gas dryer iustration on page 17 with soft brush or vacuum ceaner. Avoid damaging wires, funne or igniter. 7. Reassembe in reverse order. Before cosing the top, check the foowing: - Drum sea must be fared out (see View D) and propery positioned against pane at back of drum. Rotate drum countercockwise one fu turn to check drum sea. - Bet shoud be centered and tight on dryer drum. - Wire cips which hod the door switch wires must be anchored in sot in top of front pane (see View C) and aong top edge of side pane. Door wires must not touch drum when dryer is operating. See Warnng, page Repace top pane and int screen screws. Top and front panes must be securey in pace before operating dryer. 9. Reconnect power and eve dryer again (if necessary). NOTE: Ca Consumer Assistance at ROPER for assistance or more information. Before you dry Before using your dryer, see pages 3 and 4 for Important Safety information.. - Fre or Exposon Hazard To hep avoid the danger of a fire or exposion: Store fammabe sovents or iquids away from your dryer; Dry ceaning sovents or fuids shoud never be put directy into your dryer; If fabric has been treated with dry ceaning sovents, competey rinse and ine dry before aundering. Faiure to foow the above precautions coud resut in fire or exposion. Drying tips Check garments to make sure a spots and stains were removed during the wash. If stains were not removed, do not tumbe dry. Heat may permanenty set stain. Soied items can aso eave stains on the dryer drum. These stains can be picked up by other items in the oad.. Empty a pockets. Turn pockets of heavy items inside out for even drying. Turn int takers and dark items inside out to hep prevent int pickup. Remove heat-sensitive trim that can be damaged by drying. Tie strings and sashes so they wi not tange. Pace sma items such as baby socks or hankies in a mesh bag for easier remova. Cose zippers, snaps and hooks to avoid snagging other items. Remove pins, buckes and other hard objects to avoid scratching the dryer drum. Artices to be ironed shoud be removed from the dryer whie sti damp. Sorting Items propery sorted for washing are usuay propery sorted for drying. Separate heavy fabrics (denim, towes) from ight fabrics (synthetics, permanent press). Separate int givers (towes, chenie) from int takers (corduroy, synthetics, permanent press). When possibe, turn int takers inside out. Separate dark from ight coors; coorfast from non-coorfast. Load sizes Load the dryer by the amount of space items take up, not by their weight. Do not overoad the dryer. Overcrowding causes uneven drying and wrinking, and can cause items to wear out faster (because of piing). Mix arge items with smaer items. You may need to rearrange arge items (sheets, bankets, tabecoths) during a cyce to reduce baing or roing up. Reduce wrinking of permanent press and synthetics by drying smaer oads and removing items from the dryer as soon as tumbing stops. For better tumbing action when drying ony a few sma items, add one or two int-free towes. This aso prevents sma, ightweight items from bocking airfow. 19

20 Drying specia-care items Most garments and househod texties have care abes with aundering instructions. Aways foow abe directions when they are avaiabe. Genera drying instructions for some specia washabes are incuded in this section. 20 Air drying Heat-senstve fabrics Heat sensitive fabrics, pastic, rubber or some stuffed items require drying without heat. Use an Air setting or ine dry. The Air setting is usefu for fuffing bedding and piows, and dusting draperies and cothing. See Warning on page 8. Such items are ceary abeed. To retain fame-retardant quaities through continuous use and washing, cean and dry according to the manufacturer s instructions. Dry garment for about 10 minutes. Remove and turn inside out. Dry for 10 more minutes. 2. Remove from dryer immediatey and hang on a non-rusting hanger to finish drying. This wi hep eiminate wrinkes. Tinted, dyed or Dry according to fabric, weight and care abe instructions. Wipe the dryer non-coorfast drum carefuy to remove any dye or int that can be transferred to other items oads. 22 Towes Seect cyce according to fabric type. Some towes, particuary those made of a bend of synthetic fibers and natura fibers (poyester and cotton bends), may shed more int than other towes causing your dryer s int screen to get fu faster. Be sure to remove int from the dryer int screen before and after drying new towes. Washabe knits Do not overdry knits. Overdrying can cause shrinking and static cing. 1. Seect cyce according to fabric and construction. 2. Turn synthetics and bends inside out when drying to avoid piing. 3. Remove cotton and rayon knits whie sti sighty damp. Stretch into shape and ay fat to finish drying. Using dryer fabric softeners Dryer fabric softeners are recommended for reducing static cing (static can aso be reduced by not overdrying) and for softening fabrics. Aways foow package instructions carefuy. Put fabric softener sheet on top of the oad before starting the dryer. Do not add a fabric softener sheet after the cyce has started. Instant heat can cause the fabric softener to spot fabrics. Cear, grease-ike spots can resut from the fabric softener sheet becoming tanged in an item during tumbing. If fabric softener causes a stain, wet the stain and rub with iquid detergent or bar soap, rewash. Some fabric softeners can cog the int screen and sow drying. Use fabric softeners abeed as dryer safe. Saving energy Dry ony fu oads without overdrying. Avoid overoading dryer, adding wet items to a party dried oad, or opening the door unnecessariy. Pan your aundry to dry one oad after another. A warm dryer shortens drying time. Shorten drying times by exhausting dryer propery and ceaning exhaust duct as needed. -Keep the int screen cean. -Use your dryer in a room where room air temperature is above 45 F (7 C). -Sort oads by fabric weight and type. 23 Soving aundering probems Most aundering probems are easiy soved. Check the foowing ist for probems you may have and possibe causes. Cod rinses, however, hep save energy and reduce wrinking more than warm rinses do. Insta dryer in a room where the air temperature is warmer than 45 F (7 C). Cod air increases drying time and may cause wrinkes not to be removed. Insta and exhaust your dryer according to the Instaation Instructions provided. Cean int screen before or after each use. Cean if needed. Propery connect the dryer to a grounded eectrica circuit that meets the eectrica requirements stated in the Instaation Instructions.
