4 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS To reduce the risk of fire, eectrica shock or injury to persona when uang your washer/dryer, foow bask precautons, incuding Read a instructions before using your THIN TWIN@ washer/dryer. Do not machine wash or machine dry items ceaned, washed, soaked in, or spotted with wax, paint, gasoine, oi, dry ceaning sovents, or other fammabe fuids. Fammabe fuids (dry-ceaning sovents, kerosene, gasoine, etc.) shoud not be used or stored in or near your washer/ dryer. Do not add fammabe fuids to your wash water. These substances give of vapors that can create a fire hazard or exposion. Do not aow chidren to operate, pay with, or craw on or inside your washer/dryer. Supervise chidren cosey when your washer/dryer is used near them. Before your washer/dryer is removed from service or discarded, remove the id and door to prevent accidenta entrapment. After starting a cyce, do not reach into the basket uness the washer Cyce Contro Knob is pushed in and a motion stops. Do not reach into your dryer if the drum is moving. Do not dry rubber, rubber-ike, or heatsensitive materias with heat. Do not tamper with the contros. If your hot water has not been used recenty (usuay 2 weeks or onger), hydrogen gases may buid up in your water heater and your hot water pipes. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. To prevent injury or damage, before using your washer/dryer, turn on a hot water faucets and aow water to run for severa minutes. This wi aow gases to escape. 5 Understanding your responsibiities Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off eectrica power before attempting to service your washer/dryer. Shut off gas vave if you have a gas washer/dryer. Do not wash or dry items that are soied with vegetabe or cooking oi. These items may contain some oi after aundering. Due to the remaining oi, the fabric may smoke or catch fire by itsef. *Store fammabe sovents or fuids away from your washer/dryer. Dry ceaning sovents or fuids shoud never be put directy into your washer/ dryer. Store detergent, aundry aids and other materias in a coo, dry pace where chidren cannot reach them (in a ocked cabinet if possibe). Read and foow instructions on packages of detergent and aundry aids, especiay warnings and precautions. Do not use chorine beach and ammonia or acids (such as vinegar or rust remover) in the same wash. Hazardous fumes can form. Unpug power suppy cord before attempting to service your washer/dryer. Do not machine wash or dry fibergass materias. Sma partices can stick to the fabrics in foowing oads and cause skin irritation. Never operate your washer/dryer if: -it is not working right (i.e. noisy, too hot). -it is damaged. -parts are missing. -a panes are not in pace. -the int screen is oose, damaged, or missing. Seect oad size and water temperatures. 2. Push in the Cyce Contro Knob and turn it cockwise. Stop when the indicator on the knob s outer ring points to the number in the wash cyce you want. The numbers are minutes of wash time. 3. Pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. Refer to pages 8-1 for additiona information to hep you make seections. Stoppng and restarting your washer: To stop the washer at any time, push in the Cyce Contro Knob. To restart the washer, cose the id (if necessary) and pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. Seecting a oad size Position the Load Size Seector at the setting that corresponds to the size oad you want to wash. Seect a oad size based upon the size of the oad and the fabric you are washing. See page 24 for additiona oading information. To change the oad size setting after the washer has started to fi, move the Seector to the desired new setting. Settinp may vary with mode4 7

8 Load size tips Items shoud move freey in the washer. Do not overoad the machine or seect a oad size that is too sma for the wash oad. Use a arge oad size setting for best resuts with permanent press cothes. Reduce wash time when using a sma oad size setting. Loads with ony a few sma items need ess wash time. Seecting wash-rinse temperatures Match the water temperature to the type of fabric and sois being washed. The top temperature is the wash water and the bottom temperature is the rinse water. Water temperature tips Use warm wash water with the Permanent Press and Deicate cyces. Aways use cod rinse water for permanent press fabrics. For heaviy soied permanent press or knit cothes, prewash or presoak before washing in warm water. See the Water usage guide on page 28 for more information. Seecting a cyce and time You wi find information you need to hep you make correct cyce seections in this section. Pages 9-10: Use the information on these pages to guide you when seecting a wash cyce and time. Page 11: Use this page to hep you understand what happens during a wash cyce. 9 Reguar cyce The Reguar cyce features the Gente Wash system and high spin speeds to shorten drying time. Use 14 minutes of wash time to cean sturdiy-constructed cotton and inen fabrics that are heaviy soied oads. Use 10 minutes of wash time to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are ighty to moderatey soied. Permanent Press cyce The Permanent Press cyce features the Gente Wash system, a coo-down rinse, and ow spin speeds to reduce wrinking. Use 10 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetic fabrics that are moderatey soied. Use 6 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetics that are ighty soied. NOTE: The washer pauses briefy during the wash cyce. This is norma for washer operation. Deicate cyce The Deicate cyce features a reduced agitation speed for gente soi remova. Low spin speeds reduce wrinking. Use 6 minutes of wash time to cean deicate items and washabe knits that are ighty to moderatey soied. Permanent pres8 cyce Soak cyce (on some modes) The Soak cyce features brief periods of agitation and soak time to hep remove heavy sois and stains that need pretreatment. Use warm water when soaking aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages for stain remova information. Use the amount of detergent or presoak additive recommended by manufacturer. After the Soak cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Deicate cyce Soak cyce 9

10 Pre-Wash (on some cyce The Pre-Wash cyce features a brief period of high speed agitation to hep remove heavy sois and stains that need pretreatment. Use warm water for prewashing stained aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages 2527 for stain remova information. After the Pre-Wash cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Super Wash cyce (on rome modes) Super Wash automaticay prewashes the aundry and advances into the Reguar wash cyce. (The washer does not need to be reset after the Super Wash cyce.) Use this cyce when washing heaviy soied oads that need maximum soi remova. For proper ceaning, use doube the amount of detergent recommended for a wash cyce. NOTE: The machine pauses during Super Wash. This is norma for washer operation. Super wash cyce Using rinse and spin When using extra detergent for heaviy soied cothes, or washing specia-care items, you may want an extra rinse and spin. 1. Push Cyce Contro Knob in and turn cockwise to RINSE, as iustrated. 2. Pu Cyce Contro Knob out. The washer wi fi to seected oad size, agitate, drain, and spin. Using drain and spin A drain and spin may hep shorten drying times for some heavy fabrics or specia-care items by removing excess water. 1. Push Cyce Contro Knob in and turn cockwise to SPIN, as iustrated. 2. Pu Cyce Contro Knob out. The washer wi drain, and then spin. 10

11 What happens in each cyce When the Cyce Contro Knob is set to a number and pued out, the washer fis (to the seected oad size) before agitation and timing start. The washer wi begin agitating immediatey after fiing; agitation can occur with the washer id up or down. After agitation starts,. the Cyce Contro Knob turns cockwise unti tt points to OFF and the cyce ends. The washer pauses briefy throughout each cyce. These pauses are norma for washer operation. NOTE: A Gente Wash system heps protect your fabrics by reducing wash agitation speed during the ast few minutes of wash agitation in the Reguar and Permanent Press cyces. WASH Fi RINSE Fi Wash *Agitation speed is reduced in the ast few minutes of most cyces. This provides better fabric care. Understanding the use of the features on your machine wi hep you efficienty use your washer. Paw About your int fiter Your washer has either a sef-ceaning int fiter (requires no ceaning by you) or a manua cean int fiter. Check the shape of your agitator to see if you need to cean your int fiter. AGITATOR Spira-&aped agitator Barre-shaped agitator ABOUT YOUR FILTER MAGIC CLEAN@ int fiter This int fiter requires no ceaning. (The int fiter at the bottom of the washer basket ceans itsef.) During agitation, wash and rinse water pass over the fiter, separating the int from the water. The int is then spun away from the fiter and out of the system during the spin part of the cyce. If your washer drains into a tub, remove any int coected in the tub or strainer. Manua cean int fiter If your agitator is barre shaped, as iustrated, your machine has a manua cean int fiter. Cean the fiter at the bottom of the agitator after every oad for the best fitering resuts. To cean: 1. Lift off the agitator barre. 2. Wash or wipe the fiter cean in the bottom of the agitator barre. The fiter is not removabe. 3. Repace agitator barre. Snap it into pace. MAGIC CLEAN int fiter FILTER q aiket interior Mania1 cean int fiter End of cyce signa (on some modes) The dryer sounds a signa to et you know when the cyce is finished. The signa is not adjustabe and cannot be turned off. The signa is hepfu when you are drying permanent press, synthetics, and other items that shoud be taken out as soon as the dryer stops. 12

13 Using the chorine beach dispenser (on some modes) Aways measure iquid chorine beach. Do not guess. Never use more than 1 cup (250 ml) for a fu oad. Use ess with ower water eve settings. Foow manufacturer s directions for safe use. Use a cup with a pouring spout to avoid spiing. 1. Load the washer. 2. Pour measured chorine beach carefuy into dispenser. Do not et beach spash, drip or run down into washer basket. Undiuted beach wi damage any fabric it touches. 3. Start the washer. Beach wi be diuted automaticay during wash part of cyce. NOTE: Do not use this dispenser to add powdered chorine or a-fabric beach to your wash oad. The dispenser is for chorine beach use ony. Before starting your dryer Wipe the dryer drum with a damp coth before using to remove dust from storing and shipping. Starting your dryer 1. Load cothes into the dryer and cose the door. 2. Turn the Cyce Contro Knob either way to the desired setting. (If your dryer has a Temperature Seector, set the seector to the desired setting.) 3. Push the Start Button. NOTE: Your dryer stops automaticay when a cyce ends. Stopping your dryer You can stop your dryer any time during a cyce. Open the dryer door or turn the Cyce Contro Knob to OFF. NOTE: The Cyce Contro Knob shoud point to an OFF area when the dryer is not in use. If you want to stop the dryer before the cyce is finished, turn the Cyce Contro Knob to an OFF area. Restarting your dryer 1. Cose the door. 2. Seect a new cyce and temperature (if necessary). 3. Press the Start Button. If your dryer has a Consumer Features Guide, remove it and pace it with your Use and Care Guide. 14 Push to start

See page 17 (if your mode does not have a temperature seector) or page 18 (if your mode has a temperature seector), for hep in seecting the right cyce. NOTES: Use the Energy Preferred Automatic To hep reduce wrinking, remove the oad Setting (*) to dry most oads. from the dryer as soon as tumbing stops. Shaded areas in the iustrations show cyce This is important for permanent press, knits, ocations. and synthetic fabrics. The ast few minutes of a cyces are without heat to make the oad easier to hande. Use an automatic cyce to dry most oads. The automatic cyce shuts off when your oad reaches the seected dryness.. The Cyce Contro Knob wi not move unti the oad is amost dry. After the coo-down, the Cyce Contro Knob automaticay moves to an OFF area and tumbing stops. Dry most oads usng the Energy Preferred Automatic Setting (.).. If the oad is drier than you ike, seect a setting coser to LESS DRY the next time you dry a simiar oad. If the oad is not as dry as you ike, compete drying using a Timed cyce. Seect a setting coser to VERY DRY the next time you dry a simiar oad. some items are damp after automatic drying. This cyce is aso usefu for sma oads or arge buky items. For a damp dry, turn the Cyce Contro Knob to 30 minutes or ess. (If your dryer has a Damp Dry cyce, see page 16.) NOTE: Some modes offer high heat and ow heat timed cyces. Seect the cyce to match continued on next page

16 The Air cyce is unheated. Use this cyce to fuff or air dry bedding, pastic tabecoths, foam piows, sneakers, etc. See Warning on page 17 or 16. on rome mo Use this cyce to dry items to damp eve or to dry damp items that do not require an entire drying cyce. Two exampes are heavy cottons, such as jeans, which you do not want to become stiff, or cotton cothes which are easier to press when damp. cyce (on some modes) The TUMBLE PRESS cyce removes wrinkes from cothes that have been packed in a suitcase, or from items not removed from the dryer at the end of a cyce. Put ony a few items in your dryer for best resuts when using this cyce. As soon as the dryer stops, fod or put the items on hangers. 16

Foow the suggestions beow to maintain your dryer propery. Paw I I Maintenance-every Ceaning the int screen The int screen is ocated at the front of the dryer door opening. Cean t before each oad. A screen bocked by int can increase drying time. 1. Open the door and pu the int screen straight up. 2. Ro int off the screen with your fingers. Do not rinse or wash the screen to remove int. Wet int is hard to remove. 3. Push the screen firmy back into pace and cose the door. oad 1 Pr~uctand,FabrkDamageH;d Do not run the dryer with the int screen oose damaged bocked or missing Doing so can cause overheating and damage to both the dryer and fabrics. Maintenance-as needed Use the foowing suggestions about ceaning and int remova to maintain your washer/dryer and keep it operating efficienty. Ceaning the int screen area Periodicay remove the dryer int screen and vacuum the opening. Use the ong, thin attachment (crevice too) on your vacuum ceaner. 19

20 Ceaning a cogged int screen Laundry detergents and fabric softeners can cause a residue buidup on the int screen. A cogged int screen can extend drying times. Cean the int screen every six months, or more frequenty, if it becomes cogged due to a residue buidup. Use the foowing method: 1. Wet both sides of int screen with hot water. 2. Wet a nyon brush with hot water and iquid detergent. 3. Scrub int screen with the brush unti a residue buidup is removed. 4. Rinse with hot water. 5. Thoroughy dry int screen with a cean towe and repace in dryer. Ceaning the washer/dryer interior Washer: If the washer interior needs ceaning, put 1 cup (250 ml) of chorine beach and 2 cups (500 ml) of detergent in the washer. Run through a compete cyce using hot water. Dryer: Eectrka Shock, Persona Injury and Fire and Exposon Hazard Turn off the eectrica power before ceaning the interior. Make sure the dryer is coo. Use nonfammabe ceaner. Faiure to do so coud resut in eectrica shock or injury, fire or exposion. Garments which contain unstabe dyes, such as denim bue jeans or brighty coored cotton items, may discoor the dryer interior. If you want to remove stains from the dryer drum, use powdered aundry detergent. 1. Make a paste with detergent and very warm water. 2. Appy paste to a soft coth and scrub area unti a excess dye is removed. 3. Wipe thoroughy with a damp coth. 4. Tumbe a oad of rags to dry. 20

21 Removing accumuated int Lint can gather inside the dryer and be fue for a fire. It is recommended that int be removed every 2 to 3 years, or more often, depending on dryer usage. Ceaning shoud be done by a quaified person. 22 Tips for caring for your washer/dryer Wipe up detergent, beach and other spis with a soft, damp coth or sponge as they occur. Remove hard water deposits using ony ceaners abeed as washer safe. After tinting or dyeing, put chorine beach and detergent in the washer. Run through a compete cyce using hot water to remove excess dye or tint. If staining occurs on foowing oads, repeat the process. Sharp or meta objects can damage your washer. Check pockets for pins, cips, money, bots, nuts, etc. Do not ay these objects on your washer after emptying pockets. NOTE: Operate your washer/dryer ony when you are at home. Care during periods of non-use Winter storage or moving care Insta and store your washer/dryer where it wi not freeze. Because some water stays in the washer, freezing can damage it. If your washer/dryer is stored or moved during freezing weather, winterize it. 1. Shut off both water faucets. Disconnect the drain water inet hoses. 2. Put 1 quart (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze in the washer basket. 3. Run washer on a drain and spin setting for about 30 seconds (see page 10) to mix antifreeze and water. 4. Unpug power suppy cord.
