5 Operating Your Washer To obtain the best washing resuts, you must operate your washer propery. This section gives you this important information. Page references are incuded for more information. Starting Your Washer 1. Add measured detergent to the washer. Then pace a sorted oad of cothes in the washer. See page 13. If desired, you may aso add coour safe beach. 2. (OPTIONAL STEP) Add measured fabric softener to the fabric softener dispenser. See page Cose the washer id. 4. Turn the Load Size Seector to the setting that corresponds with the size of your wash oad and the type of fabric being washed. See pages 13 and 14 for oading tips. To change the oad size setting after the washer has started to fi, move the Seector to the desired new setting. NOTE: If your washer has RESET on the Load Size Seector, change the oad size seection by first moving the Seector to RESET, then to the new oad size. Fabric softener dispenser Knob Seector OR Knob Seector Reset with 5. Seect a wash-rinse temperature with the Water Temperature Seector. Match the water temperature with the type of fabric and sois being washed. Your washer has one of the Water Temperature Seectors shown: rotary knob or push-button. The top temperature is wash water; bottom temperature is rinse water. See page 15 for water temperature tips. Knob Seector OR Push-button Seector continued on next page 5

6 6. (OPTIONAL STEP) On modes with the Extra Rinse Option, set the seector to On to add an additiona rinse and spin to the end of the wash cyce. Use the Extra Rinse Option when adding extra detergent for the Super Wash cyce or for the Reguar and Permanent Press cyces. 7. Push in Cyce Contro Knob and turn it cockwise to the wash cyce you want. 8. Pu out Cyce Contro Knob to start washer. 9. (OPTIONAL STEP) Add measured iquid chorine beach to the wash water. See page 11. Stopping/restarting your washer. To stop the washer at any time, push in the Cyce Contro Knob. To restart the washer, cose the id (if necessary) and pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. 6

7 Seecting a cyce and time The Cyce Contro Knob shown beow may vary from the Cyce Contro Knob on your washer. The Knob shown iustrates the different features of a washer modes covered by this book. Your mode may not incude a of the cyces shown. Each cyce is designed for different types of fabrics and soi eves. An Extra Rinse Option is avaiabe (on some modes) in the Reguar and Permanent Press cyces. See page 6. Reguar cyce The Reguar cyce features the Gente Wash system and high spin speeds to shorten drying time. Use 10 to 14 minutes (NORMAL) to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are moderatey to heaviy soied. Use 6 minutes (LIGHT) to cean cotton and inen fabrics that are ighty soied. Permanent Press cyce The Permanent Press cyce features the Gente Wash system, a coo-down rinse, and ow spin speeds to reduce wrinking. Use 12 minutes of wash time to cean permanent press and some synthetic fabrics that are moderatey soied. NOTE: The washer pauses briefy during the wash cyce. This is norma for washer operation. Reguar cyce Permanent Press cyce Knits Gente feature The Knits Gente feature has a reduced agitation speed for gente soi remova. Low spin speeds reduce wrinking. Use 6 minutes of wash time to cean deicate items and washabe knits that are ighty soied. Knits Gente feature 7

8 Wooens (on some modes) feature The Wooens feature provides a reduced agitation speed for gente soi remova. Seect warm wash and warm rinse water when using this cyce. Use this 4 minute cyce for washabe wooens and ighty soied knits. Soak (on some cyce modes) The Soak cyce features brief periods of agitation and soak time to hep remove heavy sois and stains that need pretreatment. Use warm water when soaking aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages 17-9 for stain remova information. Use the amount of detergent or presoak additive recommended by the.manufacturer. After the Soak cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Wooens Soak cyce feature Pre-Wash (on some modes) cyce The Pre-Wash cyce features a brief period of high speed agitation to oosen heavy sois and stains. Use warm water for prewashing stained aundry. (Hot water can set stains.) See pages 17-9 for stain remova information. After the Pre-Wash cyce ends, add detergent and set a new wash cyce. Super Wash cyce (on some modes) The Super Wash cyce automaticay prewashes the oad and advances into the Reguar cyce. (The washer does not need to be reset after the Super Wash cyce.) Use this cyce when washing heaviy soied oads that need maximum soi remova. For proper ceaning, use doube the amount of detergent recommended for the oad size. Super Wash cyce 8

9 Using Rinse and Spin NOTE: An Extra Rinse Option is avaiabe on some modes. See page 6. When using extra detergent for heaviy soied cothes, or washing specia-care items, you may find an extra rinse and spin is needed. 1. Push in the Cyce Contro Knob and turn cockwise to RINSE, as iustrated. 2. Pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. The washer fis to the seected oad size, agitates, drains, and spins. Using Drain and Spin A drain and spin may hep shorten drying times for some heavy fabrics or specia-care items by removing excess water. 1. Push in the Cyce Contro Knob and turn cockwise to SPIN, as iustrated. 2. Pu out the Cyce Contro Knob. The washer drains, then spins.

10 What happens in each cyce When the Cyce Contro Knob is set to a number and pued out, the washer fis (to seected oad size) before agitation and timing start. The washer begins agitating immediatey after fiing; agitation occurs with the washer id up or down. After agitation starts, the Cyce Contro Knob turns cockwise unti it points to an OFF area and the cyce ends. NOTE: A Gente Wash system heps protect your fabrics by reducing wash agitation speed during the ast few minutes of wash agitation in the Reguar and Permanent Press cyces. The washer pauses briefy throughout each cyce. These pauses are norma for washer operation. During agitation, wash and rinse water passes over the fiter, separating the int from the water. The int is then spun away from the fiter and out of the system during the spin pat-t of the cyce. If your washer drains into a tub, remove any int coected in the tub or strainer. MAGIC CLEAN int fiter Basket interior 10

11 Using the fabric softener dispenser 1. Add detergent and oad cothes into the basket. 2. Pour iquid fabric softener into the dispenser using the amount recommended on the package. Avoid dripping or spiing any fabric softener on the oad. 3. Diute fabric softener with warm water. Fi dispenser with warm water unti iquid reaches the opening. 4. Start the washer. Diuted fabric softener wi be added to the oad during the fina rinse. NOTE: Do not stop the washer before the rinse part of the cyce begins. Staining can occur. 5. Fush dispenser periodicay with warm water. NOTE: Do not wash cothes with this dispenser removed. Do not add detergent or beach to dispenser. The dispenser is for iquid fabric softener use ony. Adding iquid chorine beach Aways measure iquid chorine beach. Do not guess. Never use more than 250 ml (1 cup) for a fu oad. Use ess with ower water eve settings. Foow manufacturer s directions for safe use. Use a cup with a pouring spout to avoid spiing. 1. Let the washer fi and begin agitating the oad. 2. Add beach to wash cyce so it can be removed in the rinse cyce. Pour beach around agitator, not directy on oad. Foow directions on care abes. Do not use chorine beach on woo, sik, spandex, acetates, or some fameretardant fabrics. When soaking with chorine beach, add detergent to soak water. NOTE: Undiuted beach wi damage any fabric it touches. The damage appears as rips, hoes, tears, or coour oss and may not show up unti severa washings ater. 11

12 Caring for Your Washer Proper care of your washer can extend its ife. This section expains how to care for your washer propery and safey. Ceaning your washer Exterior Wipe up detergent, beach, and other spis with a soft, damp coth or sponge as they occur. Occasionay wipe the outside of the 0 washer to keep it ooking ike Fiiiii new. Do not put sharp or meta objects in your washer. They can damage the finish. Check a pockets for pins, cips, money, bots, nuts, etc. Do not ay these objects on your washer after emptying pockets. Interior Cean interior with 250 ml (1 cup) of chorine beach mixed with 500 ml (2 cups) of detergent. Run washer through a compete cyce using hot water. Repeat process if necessary. NOTE: Remove hard water deposits using ony ceaners abeed as washer safe. Winter storage or moving care Insta and store your washer where it wi not freeze. Because some water may stay in the hoses, freezing can damage your washer. If storing or moving your washer during freezing weather, winterize it. To winterize washer: 1. Shut off both water faucets. 2. Disconnect and drain water inet hoses. 3. Put 1 L (1 quart) of R.V.-type antifreeze in the basket. 4. Run washer on a drain and spin setting (see page 9) for about 30 seconds to mix the antifreeze and water. 5. Unpug the power suppy cord. Non-use or vacation care You shoud operate your washer ony when you are at home. If you wi be on vacation or not using your washer for an extended period of time, you shoud: Unpug the power suppy cord or turn off eectrica power to the washer. To use washer again: 1. Fush water pipes and hoses. 2. Reconnect water inet hoses. 3. Turn on both water faucets. 4. Reconnect power suppy cord. 5. Run the washer through a compete cyce with 250 ml (1 cup) of detergent to cean out antifreeze. Turn off the water suppy to the washer. This heps avoid accidenta fooding (due to a water pressure surge) whie you are away. 12

13 Laundry Tips This section reviews proper aundering techniques and gives you additiona washing information. Preparing cothes for washing Cose zippers, snaps, and hooks to avoid snagging other items. Remove pins, buckes, and other hard objects to avoid scratching the washer interior. Remove nonwashabe trim and ornaments. Empty pockets and turn them inside out. Turn down cuffs, brush away int and dirt. Turn synthetic knits inside out to avoid piing. Sorting Separate heaviy soied items from ighty soied ones, even if they woud normay be washed together. Separate int givers (towes, chenie) from int takers (corduroy, synthetics, permanent press). When possibe, turn int givers inside out. Loading Tie strings and sashes so they wi not tange. Mend tears, oose hems, and seams. Treat spots and stains. (See Removing Stains on pages 17-9.) Stained or wet garments shoud be washed prompty for best resuts. Separate dark coours from ight coours, coourfast items from noncoourfast items. Oi can damage eastic. Wash often to reduce the damage. Use warm water and sufficient detergent to remove ois. Do not use chorine beach. Fame-retardant cothing Items wi be ceary abeed as fame-retardant. Foow manufacturer s instructions to retain fame-retardant quaities. I Knits Knits are comfortabe to wear because they stretch. However, this means that knits are more ikey to be stretched and damaged when washed (especiay buky knits). Knits made of synthetic fabrics such as poyester, nyon, and acryic tend to keep their origina shape more than a knit made of cotton or ramie. 17 Removing Stains Stained, heaviy soied, or greasy items may need to be prewashed or soaked for best resuts. Soaking heps remove protein-type stains ike bood, mik, or grass. Prewashing heps oosen soi before washing. Stain remova rues Use warm water for soaking or prewashing stained aundry. Hot water can set stains. Most stains are easier to remove when they are fresh. Od or set stains may not come out. Foow package directions for pretreatment products. Before treating any stain, find out what kind of stain it is, how od the stain is, what kind of fabric it is, and if the fabric is coourfast. (Check the care abe.) Washing and drying can set some stains. Start with cod or warm water. Hot water can set some stains. Stain remova guide STAIN Acohoic beverage TO REMOVE When beach is recommended, use a beach that is safe for the fabric. Test stain removers on an inside seam or hidden corner of the item to see if the coour is removed. Put the stained area face down on a paper towe or white coth. Appy the stain remover to the back of the stain. This forces the stain off the fabric instead of through it. Meat tenderizer or enzyme presoaks hep break down some protein stains so they are easier to remove. These stains turn brown with age, so treat immediatey. Sponge or soak fresh stains with cod water. Wash. If stain remains, soak 15 minutes in a soution of ukewarm water, iquid detergent, and a few drops of white vinegar. Rinse. Wash. Bood Rinse immediatey or soak in cod water with enzyme presoak for 30 minutes or onger. Rinse. Rub detergent into any remaining stains. Rinse. If stain remains, put a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide on stain for three to five minutes. Rinse thoroughy. Wash. Chewing gum Chocoate or coffee Use ice to make gum hard. Scrape off what you can. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Let dry. Wash. Sponge immediatey with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or appy a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. If stain remains, appy a iquid detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Crayon and Scrape off excess with a du knife. Pace fabric between two botters or cande wax facia tissue. Press with warm iron. Remove coour stain with nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Hand wash unti stain is gone. If fu oad is crayon stained, take to ceaners or coin-operated dry ceaning machine. Cream, mik, or ice cream Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner, or a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. Repeat if necessary. If stain remains, appy a few drops of iquid detergent and a few drops of ammonia. Bot dry and rinse. If stain remains, soak in an enzyme presoak. Wash. continued on next page 17

Use tacum powder to absorb as much grease as possibe. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Rinse. Wash.. Treat with iquid detergent or rub a detergent paste on the stain. Wash using hottest water safe for fabric. Fresh stains: Soak immediatey in coo water. Wash. If stain remains, cover area with a paste made of coour safe beach, a few drops of hot water and a few drops of ammonia. Wait 15 to 30 minutes. Wash. Od stains: stains. Sponge with white vinegar. Rinse. Repeat procedure for fresh Soak in warm or cod water with an enzyme presoak for at east 30 minutes, or sponge with denatured acoho. If stain remains, beach with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Rinse. Rewash. Spray stain with an aeroso hair spray or rubbing acoho. Sponge stain continuousy unti a beeding stops. Let dry. Repeat if necessary. Wash. If stain remains, beach if safe for fabric. (India and other indeibe inks are amost impossibe to remove competey.) Cooured or noncoourfast items: Appy emon juice and sat. Pace in the sun to dry. Rinse thoroughy. Repeat if necessary. White or coourfast items: Try a rust remover. Test first on inside seam or hem. Some rust removers are not washer safe. Foow package directions. Ketchup tomato products Lipstick or Sponge immediatey with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or appy a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Wash. If stain remains, appy a iquid detergent to stain or soak in warm water with an enzyme presoak. Rewash. Appy nonfammabe fabric ceaner or prewash soi and stain remover. Bot with absorbent materia. Repeat if necessary. Rinse. If stain sti remains, rub with iquid detergent. Wash. 18

19 STAIN Meat juice, egg Midew TO REMOVE Scrape off excess with a du knife. Soak in cod or warm water with enzyme presoak at east 30 minutes, or treat stains with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Wash. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. If stain remains, soak in warm water and a coour safe beach for 15 to 30 minutes. Rewash. (Od midew stains are amost impossibe to remove. Midew fungus destroys or weakens fabrics.) An aternative to beach is to treat with sat and emon juice and dry in direct sunight. Rinse and rewash. Midew may form if wet or damp aundry remains in your washer for extended periods of time. To prevent midew, prompty dry aundry after washing. Mustard Treat immediatey. Scrape off excess mustard. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or a prewash soi and stain remover. Rinse. Work iquid detergent and a few drops of vinegar into stain. Rinse. If stain remains, appy 3% hydrogen peroxide. Rinse and wash. Paint Hand wash paint-stained items. Water base: Treat stains whie sti wet. (These paints cannot be removed after they have dried.) Rinse in warm water to fush out paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner. Rinse. Wash. Oi base: Scrape off fresh paint. Sponge with a nonfammabe fabric ceaner or treat stain with recommended thinner. Whie stain is sti wet with sovent, rub iquid detergent into it. Wash with hottest water safe for fabric. Perspiration Remove stains before ironing. Perspiration stains may weaken fabric. Wash or sponge stain thoroughy with detergent and warm water. If perspiration has changed the coour of the fabric, use one of the foowing treatments: Fresh stains: Appy ammonia to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove ammonia odour. Od stains: Appy white vinegar to stain. Rinse. Launder to remove vinegar odour. Scorch Severe scorch cannot be removed. Wet stain with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Cover with a dry coth and press with an iron as hot as is safe for fabric. Rinse we. Wash. OR Wet with emon juice and spread in the sun to dry. Wash. Soft drinks Sponge immediatey with cod water and acoho. Heat and detergent may set stain. 19

Is the drain hose ower than the water eve in the washer? It must be higher. Is the id cosed? Is the Cyce Contro Knob set and pued out? Is the washer making noises or vibrating? e wash oad propery distributed around the agitator? NOTE: Washer stops briefy during a wash cyce. These pauses are norma. 23 Warranty By GENTECH Limited GENTECH warrants to the origina purchaser for a period of 24 months from the date of purchase that the artice identified by the seria abe/pate is free of defects in materia and workmanship under norma use and service, subject to the provisions of causes 1 to 13 herein beow: 1. At any time within the warranty period GENTECH wi cause to be repaced or repaired any part found by GENTECH to be defective. 1.2 GENTECH sha have an unfettered discretion to have a part/parts repaired as opposed to having same repaced. 2. In the event of a defect to an artice requiring to be remedied in terms of this warranty, provided the artice is in a ocaity no further than 50 kiometres from a GENTECH branch or the nearest GENTECH designated repairer, no charge in respect of traveing expenses wi be evied. Outside the 50 kiometre radius the purchaser wi be iabe to GENTECH or the repairer for traveing time and traveing expenses in accordance with the prevaiing rate of charges from time to time of GENTECH or its designated repairer (whichever may be appicabe), such charges to be evied ony as regards the excess kiometres traveed beyond the 50 kiometre radius, the said charges to appy mutatis mutandis to the service engineer s return journey. 3. Anything to the contrary herein contained notwithstanding, the defect must be due entirey to fauty materias or fauty manufacture. 4. The warranty excudes defects caused to the artice arising from a faiure to adhere to instructions given in this booket, incorrect votages or fauts in the eectrica power system, damage caused by ightning strikes, misuse or abuse of the artice, use of the artice for purposes other than that for which it was designed, fire, food, war, civi disturbance, industria action, act of God, or any other cause beyond the reasonabe contros of GENTECH. 5.1 GENTECH sha not, under any circumstances whatsoever, be iabe for any damages sus tained due to faiure of operation or mafunctioning of the artice, nor for consequentia dam ages of whatsoever nature, howsoever arising. 5.2 Without derogating from the generaity of the aforegoing, GENTECH sha not be iabe for any damages arising from the mafunctioning and/or damage of/to the artice arising from foreign objects finding their way into the working parts of the artice, e.g. a coin bocking a washing machine pump. 6. In the case of a cash sae (as opposed to a credit agreement subject to provisions of the Credit Agreements Act, 1980, or any amending or substituted egisation) this warranty repaces any iabiity of GENTECH at common aw in respect of atent defects. 11. Repairs effected or pans repaced in terms of this warranty wi be subject to warranty ony for the duration of the baance of the origina warranty period reating to the artice. 12.
