Pane A A n A three-wire or four-wire, singephase, 120/240-vot, &Hz, AC-ony eectrica suppy (or three-wire or fourwire, 120/208-vot if specified on the seria/rating pate) is required on a separate 40-ampere circuit, fused on both sides of the ine. A time-deay fuse or circuit breaker is recommended. The fuse size must not exceed the circuit rating of the appiance as specified on the seria/rating pate is ocated pate. The seria/rating on the rear wa of the burner box. B w DOWNDRAFT COOK-TOP MUST BE CONNECTED WTH COPPER WRE ONLY. DO NOT USE ALUMNUM WRE. C n Wire sizes and connections must conform to the requirements of the Nationa Eectrica Code, ANS/NFPA 70 - atest edition*, and a oca codes and ordinances. Wire sizes and connections must conform with the rating of the appiance. The appiance shoud be connected to the fused disconnect (or circuit breaker) box through fexibe armored or non-metaic sheathed copper cabe. Locate the junction box to aow as much sack in the ine as possibe between the junction box and appiance so that the downdraft cooktop can be moved if servicing is ever necessary. F n A U.L.-isted /2 conduit connector must be provided at the junction box. G w A wiring diagram is ocated beow the contro mounting pate.

Do Not connect to the eectrica suppy unti appiance is permanenty grounded. Disconnect power to the junction box before making the eectrica connection. This appiance must be connected to a grounded, metaic, permanent wiring system, or a grounding connector shoud be connected to the grounding termina or wire ead on the appiance. Faiure to do so coud resut in a fire, persona injury or eectrica shock. This appiance is manufactured with a white (neutra) power suppy wire and a frame-connected green (or bare) grounding wire twisted together. Connect the appiance cabe to the junction box through the U.L.-isted conduit connector. Compete eectrica connection according to oca codes and ordinances. A n connecting conductor box wire: Where oca codes permit... the frame-grounding to the neutra (white) junction 1. Disconnect the power suppy. 2. Connect the fexibe armored cabe U.L.-isted conduit connector. Tighten 3. Connect the neutra (white) wire in the junction box with the green (or bare) wire and white wire from the appiance cabe with a wire connector. 4. Connect the white wire from the power suppy cabe to the neutra (white) wire in the junction box. 5. Connect the two back wires together; then connect the red wires together with wire connectors. (See Figure 2.) 6. Connect the green (or bare) wire to a grounded cod water pipe* (or to?he grounded ead in the service pane). Do Not ground to a gas suppy pipe or hot wafer pipe. Grounded cod water pipe must have meta continuity to eectrica ground and not be interrupted by pastic, rubber, or other eectrcay insuating connectors, such as hoses, fittings, washers or gaskets (incuding water meter or pump). Any eectrica insuating connector shoud be jumped as shown with a en th of No-4 wre securey camped to bare me 3 a at both ends. wire Fire Hazard. Venting system MUST terminate to the outside. Do Not terminate the ductwork in an attic or other encosed space. Do Not use 4 aundry-type wa caps. Do Not use pastic-type ductwork. Faiure to foow recommended venting instructions may resut in a fire. Determine which venting method to use. Ductwork can extend either through the wa or foor. The ength of the ductwork and number of ebows shoud be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance. The size of the ductwork shoud be uniform. Do Not insta two ebows together. Use duct tape to sea a joints in the ductwork system. Use cauking tape to sea the exterior wa or foor opening around the cap. Do Not cut joist or stud. f ductwork cutout fas over a joist or stud, a supporting frame must be constructed. Fexibe meta ductwork is Not recommended. f it is used, cacuate each foot of fexibe ductwork as two feet of rigid. Fexibe ebows count twice as much as standard ebows. Use meta ductwork ony. Figures 5-8 show common venting methods and types of materias needed. NOTE: Make sure there is proper cearance within the wa or foor exhaust duct before making cutouts. Disconnect the power suppy. 2. Connect the fexibe armored cabe U.L.-isted conduit connector. Tighten 3. Connect the white wires together; connect the red wires together; then connect the back wires together with wire connectors. 5. Figure 8 Recommended duct ength for isand or peninsua instaations Use round 6 or 3-/4 x 10 duct with a maximum of 26 feet for duct system. For best performance, use no more than three 90 ebows. Do Not insta two ebows together. Determining you need. the ength of system To cacuate the ength of system you need, add the equivaent feet for each duct piece that wi be needed. See the foowing exampes. 6 duct system (3JjFj 90 ebows Maximum ength = 26 ft ebows 1 -surface wa cap = oft. = Oft. 8 feet straight = 8ft. Length of 6 system = 18ft. Recommended standard finings 6 systems: equivaent ength of 6 duct 3-/4 x 10 to 3-y/4 x o to 6 6 to x 10 6 = 4.5 ft. 900 mow = 5 ft. 9o ebow=9ft. Cut meta band from around, the top fange of carton and remove the top of carton. Fiters ocated here. 2 Remove the foam pads and. cooktop from carton. Remove foam pads from front and back of cooktop. Remove any tape from cooktop, incuding tape hoding fiters inside the appiance. 3 nsta venting adapter to bower w housing using three screws provided. Rotate the bower housing downward to cear the cabinet opening. 4 hod-down bot nsert the downdraft cooktop into the countertop cutout. n Check that front edge of downdraft cooktop is parae to front edge of countertop and at east 1- /2 inches back from front edge of countertop and 2 inches from any vertica was. Tighten hod-down bots a-t each side of unit. 7 nsta modues in cooktop w foowing instructions in Use and Care Guide. Turn power suppy on. Check 8. that gri, modue and vents are operating correcty. f one does not operate, disconnect the power source and check that wire connections have been made correcty. your new Whirpoo downdraft cooktop.
