Leve foor: Maximum foor sope under dyer - 1 inch. Protection from the weother: Proper operation of dryer cyces requires temperatures above 45O F., or the dryer may not shut off when automatic cyces ore used. This appiance is suitabe for mobie home instaations. The instacrion of the dryer must conform to the Manufactured Home Construction and Safey Standard, Me 24 CFR, Part 3280 (formery the Federa Standard for Mobie Home Construction and Safety, Tite 24, HUD, Part 280). For mobie home use. this appiance MUST be fastened to the foor and MUST be exhausted to the outside. Order Mobie Home nstaotron Kit NO from Your Whirpoo deaer Kit incudes the necessary fastening hardware and detaied instaation instructions. Exhaust system hardware is aso avaiabe through your Whirpoo deaer. This instaation must conform with American Nationa Standard. Nationa Fue Gas Code ANSI atest edition, and a oco1 codes and ordinances. Input ratinas shown on the rating pbte (serki tag) are for eevations up to 2.ooO feet. For eevations above 2.Mx) feet. ratings shoud be reduced at o rate of 4% for each 1.ooO feet above seo eve. Gas suppy. This dryer must be connected o cr reguated gas suppy. Faiure to do so coud cause highpressure gas reease, resuting in a fire or exposion. Have the L.P. gas checked by a quattied person before instaing the dryer. The L.P. gos suppy must not exceed a pressure d 13 water coumn.. New fexibe tubing shoud be used. Reusing od fexibe tubing might resut in possibe eaks or fire hozord. OBSERVE ALL GOVERNING CODES AND ORDINANCES A Frrst make certain that this dryer. is equipped with the correct burner for the particuar type of gas in the home. Burner nformotion wi be found on the ratrng pate in door we of the appiance. If this informution does not agree wit the type of gas avaiabe. see vour deaer. B This dryer is. equipped for use with NATURAL GA It is certified by A.G.A. for manufactured, mixe and L.P. gases wdh appropriate conversion. No attemot sha be made to convert the dppiance from the gas specaied on the rating pate for use with a different gos without consutina the sewinc ~10s suooier. Conversi& must be d&e by b quaified service technician. Gas conversion kii po numbers ore isted on the gos vave burner base. C Provide CI gas suppy ine to the. dryer ocation. When rigid pipe is used tt shoud be /2 inch IPS. When acceptabe to the gas suppier, 3/8 inch approved tubng may be used for engths under 20 feet. For engths over 20 feet. arger tubing shoud be used. Pipe joint compounds resistant to the actron of LP QOS must be used. D The suppy ine shoud be. equipped with CI shutoff vave. This vave shoud be ocated in the same room as the dryer and shoud be in a ocation that aows ease of opening and cosing. Do not bock access to shutoff vave. E If the dryer IS instaed In o. confined area such as a bedroom, bathroom or coset. it must be exhausted to the outside and provision made for enough air for combustion and ventiation. (Check governing codes and ordinances.) Aso refer to the section of this instruction covering Recessed or Coset Instaations. F. If oca codes permit, it is recommended that fexibe me tubing. design by the Americ Associution. be used for Connecting the appiance to the gas suppy Ine. (The gas pipe which extends through the ower rear of the appiance has 3/8 inch mae pipe thread.) G. If rigid pipe IS used as a gas suppy ine, a combination of pipe fittings must be used to obtain on in-ine connection to the dryer. H Make sure that ower edges of. the cabinet. pus the back and bottom sides of the dryer are free of obstructions to perma adequate cearance of air ooeninas for combustion air. See Recessed Area Instructions. back page, for minimum spacing. For ease of instaation, operation I m and servicing (if ever needed) adequate space shoud be provided around the dryer. 8 inch NPT pugged ping. accessibe fort onnection. must be immediatey upstream of the gas suppy connection to the dryer. The dryer and its indrvidua shutoff vave must be disconnected from the gas suppy piprng system durina anv oressure testrna of that system at test pressures inexcess of /2 psig (3.45 kpa). The dryer must be isoated from the gas suppy piping system by cosing its individua manua shutoff vahe during any pressure testing of the gas suppy piping system at test pressures equa to or ess that /2 psig (3.45 kpa). Important: observe a governing codes and ordinances. K The dyer shutoff vave and the. wiring diagram are ocated behind the ower front access pane. Open the access pone by pushing down on the ocking cips with CI sma. fat-bade screwdriver. and puing pane forward. The cips are ocated on top of the pane 3 inches in from each side. The pane is hinged at the bottom. Cose the access pane after servicing. Do not operate the dryer with the access Dane1 ooen. L If dryer wi not operate, check. the foowina to be sure that: I. Eectric sup& is connected 2. Fuse is intact and tight. 3. Door is cosed. 4. Contros are set in 0 running or On * oosition. 5 Start button has been pushed firmy or the power contro ever moved upward to start 6. Gas shutoff vaves ore open both on dryer and on suppy ines.
3 Eectrica Eectrica Shock Hazard Eectrica ground is requred on this appiance. Improper connection o the equipment-grounding conductor can resut in a risk 01 eectrica shock. Check with a quaified eechician i you are in doubt as to whether the appiance is propery grounded. Do Not mod Me power suppy cord pug. t it wi not it the ouet, have a proper outet instaed by a quaified eectrician. Do Not use an extension cord wr this appiance. Such use mav resut in a fire. eectrica shock or other persona injury. Do Not have a tuse In the neutra or grounding circuit. A (use in the neutra or grounding circuit coud resut in eectrica shock. Time-deay fuse or circuit breaker is recommended. It is recommended that a separate circuit serving ony this appiance be provided. RECOMMENDED GROUNDING METHOD Eectrica ground is required on this appiance. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. REMOVE THE POWER supply CORD GROUNDING For your persona safety. this appiance must be grounded. This appiance is equipped with a power suppy cord having o J-prong grounding pug. To minimize oossibe shock hazard. the cord must be 3.prong pugged into a eroundrnemating J-prong kypy;i grounding-type wa receotoce. grounded in accordance with the Nationa Eectrica Code. ANSI/NFRA 70 atest <,POW yz edition. and a oca codes and ordinances. If a mating wa receptace is not avaiabe, it is the persona responsibiity and obigation of the customer to have a propery grounded J-prong wa receptace instaed by a quaified eectfcian. For added persona safety. using the camp and green-coored copper wire furnished. connect this separate grounding wire (X18 minimum) from the externa grounding connector on the back of the appiance to a grounded cod water pipe. TEMPORARY GROUNDING METHOD DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, REMOVETHE POWER SUPPLY CORD GROUNDING PRONG. THIS. HOWEVER IS NOT RECOMMENDED. If changing and propery grounding the wa receptace is mpossbe and where oca codes permit (consut your eectrica inspector), 0 temporary adapter may be pugged Into the existing 2mprong wa receptace to mate with the J-prong power suppy cord. If this is done. you must Connect a separate copper grounding wire (No.-18 minimum) to a grounded cod water pipe by means of a Camp and then to the externa ground connector screw. Da not ground to a gas suppy pipe or hot water pipe. Do not connect to eectrica suppy unti appiance is permanenty grounded. Exhaust Fire/Heath Hazard. Do Not use non-meta, fexibe duct.. Do Not use meta duct smaer than four inches in diameter.. Do Not use exhaust hoods with magnetic aches. Check that exhaust system is not onger than specified. Exhaust systems onger than speciried wi: -Accumuate int. Shoren the ife d the dryer. -Reduce pertormance, resuting in onger drying times and increased energy usage. Faiure to oow soeciticaions nay resut in a fire. Do Not exhaust dryer into a chimney, furnace cod air duct, attic or craw space, or any other duct used for venting. Cean Me exhaust system every other year.. Do Not insta fexibe duct in encosed was, ceiings or foors. kccumuated int coud resut in a ire or cause moisure damage. Exhaust the dryer outside to prevent exposure o substances in the gas ues and cambusion which may be harmfu to your heah. The moisture and int Indoors may cause: - FIRE HAZARD from int coected in dryer; - Moisture damage to woodwork, furniture, pain. wapaper, carpet, etc. - House ceaning probems and possibe heath probems. Faiure to foow these Instructions coud resut in fire damage or persona injury. Meta fexibe duct may be used. It shoud be fuy extended and supported when the dryer is in its fina postiion. DO NOT KINK OR CRUSH THE DUCT. The meta fexibe duct must be competey open to aow adequate exhaust air to fow. Use Duct Tape to sea a joints. II the dryer is instaed In a confined area such as o bedroom, bathroom or coset, h must be exhausted to the outside and orovision made for enough &for combustion and ventiation. (Check governing codes and ordinances.) Aso refer to the section of this instructron covering Recessed and Coset Instructions. The Exhaust Outet is ocated at the bottom ce of the back dryer. The Exhaust Duct can be routed up. down, eft, right or straight out the back of the dryer.. An Exhaust Hood shoud cop the exhaust duct to orevent exhausted air from returning into dryer. The outet of the hood must be at east 12 inches from the ground or anything ese that may be in the path of the exhaust. A Z-/Z inch outet Exhaust Hood shoud be used with short systems ony. (This outet creates greater back pressure than other hood types.) Exhaust Hoods with magnetic atches shoud not be used. The Maximum ength of the exhaust System depends upon the type of duct used. number of ebows and type of exhaust hood. The maxrmum ength for both rigid and fexibe duct is shown in chart For Exhaust Systems not covered by the exhaust ength chart. check with vour Whirtooo deaer or sewice center for o dryer manua Part No. &X197. The back pressure in any exhaust system used must not exceed 0.3 inches of water coumn measured with an incined manometer at the point that the exhaust duct connects to the dryer. For Mobie Home instaation, the dryer must have an outside exhaust. If you exhaust the dryer through the foor and the area under your mobie home is encosed, the exhaust svstem must terminate outside the encosed area. Extension beyond the encosure wi prevent int and moisture buid-up under the mobie home. Pane B
4 .-,, I. Now Start... 1 Toki tape off \ front corners of dryer. Open dryer and 2. remove the iterature and parts packages. (If dryer has a drvina rack tt shoud be removed aiso.1 Remove a parts from the pastic pf3ckoqes. Line these up next to vour toos so each oar- is there when you need it Check to see that you have these Darts: 8. Move the dryer cose to its fina ocation. To make sure the dryer is eve, take o carpenter s eve and pace it on the top of the dryer, first side to side, then front to bock. If the dryer is not eve, screw the egs of the dryer up or down to adjust. -I Remove the red cop from the the 14 see Exhaust To exhaust Connect exhaust duct to exhaust hood. Use duct taoe to sea oi joints in exhaust duct. Use COukng compouna to sea exterior wa opening around exhaust hood. 15 Connect the. grounding Wire to the externa grounding Connect on the back of the dryer. Connect the other end Of the grounding Wire to a grounded cod x-dnr -VIII, bioe. Puo the eectrica cord into the grounded out1et.a f?=.x Connect gas suppy to dryer. Use pipe joint compound resistant to the action of LP gas for QOS connections, If fexibe meta tubina sed. be certain there ore no kinks. A connecions mu.s wrench-ightened. 1 4 Turn the P II ICJ.dryer on to Ie:IIIu -^--ve air - from _ the gos suppy ine. Using a f1111 bat cyce (not the err cyce). et the dryer run for at Inn=+ five minutes. If the burner does not ignite and you can fee no heat inside the dryer. shut off the dryer for five minutes. Check that a suppy vahe contros are in ON. postiion and that the eectrica cnrd --,- is pkjqqed in. Repeat the five- Remove the tape that hods the drum to the cabinet. (Some dryer drums ore not taped for shipping.) Move the drum by hand to make certain a tape has been removed. Wipe the interior of the drum thoroughy with a damp coth before using the dryer. Remove the tape from the int screen 4. Take two of the cardboard corners from the carton and bace them on the foor in b&k of the dryer. 5 Firmy grasp the body of the I dryer and genty ay it on its back on the cardboard corners. 6 With one of the. egs In hand, check the ridges for a diamond marking. That s how for the eg is supposed to go into the hoe. Start to screw the egs into the hoes by hand. Use a sma amount of iquid detergent to ubricate the screw so it is easier to turn the eg. Use a 1 wrench or socket inside the dryer ISshipped in the ON position. Check that the oos vave shutoff contro is sti Open the shutoff vave in the gas suppy ine. 13 Use a brush and iquid. deteraent to test a aas connections for eaks Bubbes Ground connecttons wi indicate o eak. If a eak appears, shut off gas vave contros and adjust connections. Then check connectrons again instaation parts packages in step 2 are now instaed in the dryer. If you sti have on extra part. go back through the steps to see what you skipped. 18 Check to moke sure you. have a the toos you started with in step A. use from your new dryer, read your Use and Care Guide. Keep nsiaation Instructions and guide cose to the dryer for easy reference. to finish turning the egs unti you have reached the diamond mark Foor Damage Side dryer onto cardboard or hardboard before moving across foor. Faiure to do so may cause damage to foor covering. Numbers correspond to steps Pone 7. Now stand the dryer up. C
5 Recessed and coset instaation instructions Fire/Heath Hazard Exhaust the dryer to the ouside to prevent exposure to substances in the gas fues and combustion which may be harmfu to your heath. f dryer is instaed in a coset, the dryer MUST be exhausted outside. Faiure to do so may resutt in a fire. The foowing instaation spacings and door air openings for the dryer are possibe when instaed and exhausted as noted. Start button has been pushed firmy or the power contro ever moved upward to start. F. Gas shutoff vaves are open both on dryer and on suppy ines. When moving the dryer.... Disconnect the eectrica cord and grounding wire and tape securey to dryer.. Shut off the gas suppy vave contros in the gas suppy ine.. Disconnect gas pipe ftttings from dryer and cap the gas suppy ine. Tape the drum to the front pane Tape the dryer door. int screen id and end of gas pipe.. Screw eveing egs a the way in. Before instaing your dryer in your new home, check with your gas suppier or deaer to see that your dryer is equipped with the correct burner for the particuar type of gas in your new home.
