This device is intended for use with a compatibe wireess aarm system. The detector consists of an eectrochemica carbon monoxide sensor assemby couped to a wireess transmitter. The Wireess Carbon Monoxide Aarm communicates with the contro pane and can send aarm, tamper and battery condition messages to the system s receiver. Caution: The detector expiry date is stamped on the detector. After the expiry date, the detector shoud not be used - do not wait for end-of-ife indication! This carbon monoxide detector is designed for indoor use ony. Do not expose to rain or moisture. Do not knock or drop the detector. Do not open or tamper with the detector as this coud cause mafunction. The detector wi not protect against the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if not propery instaed. CAUTION: This device wi ony indicate the presence of carbon monoxide gas at the sensor. Carbon monoxide gas may be present in other areas. This carbon monoxide aarming device is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas from ANY source of combustion. It is NOT designed to detect smoke, fire or other gases uness the product has been investigated and determined to compy with appicabe requirements. Figure 1: WS4933 Wireess CO Detector Instaation Instructions Battery Instaation To repace the battery: 1. Remove the detector from its mounting base by twisting it countercockwise. Remove and dispose of the battery according to your oca reguations. 2. To ensure proper power-down sequence, wait a minimum of 20 before instaing the new battery. 3. Insta a new 3-vot CR123A Panasonic Lithium battery in the battery compartment observing correct poarity. If the battery is incorrecty inserted, remove genty with a non-conductive too and correcty reinsert. 4. Reinsta the detector onto the mounting base by turning it cockwise. 5. After the power-up sequence, the green LED shoud bink once to indicate norma operation. If the battery is not instaed correcty, the detector wi not operate and the battery may be damaged. Legend A. Warnings: The WS4933 Series wireess Carbon Monoxide detector sha be instaed and used within an environment that provides the poution degree max 2 and overvotages category II in NON HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, indoor ony. The equipment is designed to be instaed by SERVICE PERSONS ony; (SERVICE PERSON is defined as a person having the appropriate technica training and experience necessary to be aware of hazards to which that person may be exposed in performing a task and of measures to minimize the risks to that person or other persons.) Faiure to propery insta, test and maintain a CO detector may cause it to fai, resuting in oss of ife. Instaation of the CO detector shoud not be used as a substitute for proper instaation, use and maintenance of fue burning appiances, incuding appropriate ventiation and exhaust systems. Enroment At the aarm contro pane, program the 6-digit seria number of the WS4933 (ocated on the back of the detector). Pease refer to your contro pane instaation manua for detais. Seecting a Location Seecting a suitabe ocation is critica for the CO detector. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends to use at east one CO detector per househod, ocated as near as possibe to seeping areas of the home, because the human body is most vunerabe to the CO gas effect during seeping hours. 1

Test the detector after competing the instaation (as described in the TESTING THE DETECTOR section of this manua) and refer to the aarm contro pane instaation manua for additiona information concerning the use of wireess devices. Legend A: Bedroom B: Living Room C: Kitchen D: Basement E: Garage Figure 3: Mounting the Detector For added protection, insta additiona CO detectors in every separate bedroom and on every eve of your home. If your bedroom haway is onger than 14 meters (40 feet), insta a CO detector at BOTH ends of the haway. Insta an additiona detector 6 meters (20 feet) away from the furnace or fue burning heat source. For maximum protection, the detector shoud aso be ocated outside primary seeping areas or at each eve of your home. Mount the detector on a firm wa or ceiing. DO NOT insta CO detectors: In ocations where temperature may be beow 0ºC (14ºF) or above 40ºC (104ºF). In ocations where humidity is beow 10% or above 93% RH non-condensing. Near paint thinner fumes. Near air conditioners, furnaces, stoves, firepaces and any other ventiation source that may interfere with CO gas entering the detector. In ocations where furniture or draperies may obstruct the air fow. In exhaust streams from gas engines, vents, fues or chimneys. Where dirt or dust coud coect and bock the sensor and prevent it from working. In ocations that can be reached by chidren. In turbuent air from ceiing fans. In cose proximity to an automobie exhaust pipe - this wi damage the detector. Tamper Protection The WS4933 incudes a tamper resistant feature that prevents remova from the mounting base without the use of a too. To engage the tamper resistant feature, cut the sma pastic tab ocated on the mounting bracket and then insta the detector. To remove the detector from the base once it has been made tamper resistant, use an appropriate screwdriver to depress the square tamper reease tab ocated on the skirt of the mounting bracket and turn the detector countercockwise. Note: Constant exposure to temperature or humidity extremes may reduce battery ife. 2.3 V You shoud know about Carbon Monoxide. Carbon monoxide, aso known as "CO" by the chemica form, is considered to be a highy dangerous poisonous gas, because it is cooress, odoress or tasteess and very toxic. In genera, biochemistry phenomena have shown that the presence of CO gas inhibits the bood's capacity to transport oxygen throughout the body, which can eventuay ead to brain damage. In any encosed space (home, office) even a sma accumuation of CO gas can be quite dangerous. Athough many products of combustion can cause discomfort and adverse heath effects, it is CO gas which presents the greatest threat to ife. Carbon monoxide is produced by the incompete combustion of fues such as natura gas, propane, 3

4 heating oi, kerosene, coa, charcoa, gasoine, or wood. The incompete combustion of fue can occur in any device which depends on burning for energy or heat such as furnaces, boiers, room heaters, hot water heaters, stoves, gris, and in any gasoine powered vehice or engine (e.g., generator set, awnmower). Tobacco smoke aso adds CO to the air you breathe. When propery instaed and maintained, your natura gas furnace and hot water heater do not poute your air space with CO. Natura gas is known as a cean burning fue because under correct operating conditions, the combustion products are water vapor and carbon dioxide (CO2), which is not toxic. The products of combustion are exhausted from furnaces and water heaters to the outside by means of a fue duct or chimney. Correct operation of any burning equipment requires two key conditions: a. An adequate suppy of air for compete combustion. b. Proper venting of the products of combustion from the furnace through the chimney, vent or duct to the outside. Typica carbon monoxide gas probems are summarized here: a. Equipment probems, due to defects, poor maintenance, damaged and cracked heat exchangers. b. Coapsed or bocked chimneys or fues, disodged, disconnected or damaged vents. c. Downdraft in chimneys or fues. This can be caused by very ong or circuitous fue runs, improper ocation of fue exhaust or wind conditions. d. Improper instaation or operation of equipment, chimney or vents. e. Air tightness of house enveop/inadequate combustion of air. f. Inadequate exhaust of space heaters or appiances. g. Exhaust ventiation/firepace competing for air suppy. Potentia sources of carbon monoxide in your home or office incude cogged chimney, wood stove, wood or gas firepace, automobie and garage, gas water heater, gas appiance, gas or kerosene heater, gas or oi furnace, and cigarette smoke. More information about conditions which resut in transient CO situations: 1. Excessive spiage or reverse venting of fue burning appiances caused by: a. Outdoor ambient conditions such as wind direction and or veocity, incuding high gusts of wind; heavy air in the vent pipes (cod humid air with extended periods between cyces). b. Negative pressure differentia resuting from the use of exhaust fans. c. Simutaneous operation of severa fue burning appiances competing for imited interna air. d. Vent pipe connection vibrating oose from cothes dryers, furnaces, or water heaters. e. Obstructions in or unconventiona vent pipe designs which ampify the above situation. 2. Extended operation of unventiated fue burning devices (range, oven, firepace, etc). 3. Temperature inversions which can trap exhaust gases near the ground. 4. Car iding in an open or cosed attached garage, or near a home. Possibe Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Carbon monoxide is cooress, odoress, tasteess, and very toxic. When inhaed, it produces an effect known as chemica asphyxiation. Injury is due to the combining of CO with the avaiabe hemogobin in the bood, owering the oxygen-carrying capacity of the bood. In the presence of CO gas, the body is quicky affected by oxygen starvation. The foowing symptoms are reated to CO poisoning and shoud be discussed with a members of the househod: a. Mid exposure: sight headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue (often described as "Fu-ike" symptoms). b. Medium exposure: severe throbbing headache, drowsiness, confusion, fast heart rate c. Extreme exposure: unconsciousness, convusions, cardiorespiratory faiure, death. d. Many cases of reported CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING indicate that whie victims are aware they are not we, they become so disoriented they are unabe to save themseves by either exiting the buiding or caing for assistance. Young chidren and househod pets are typicay the first affected. Action to Take When Aarm Sounds In case harmfu eves of CO gas are detected, your detector wi go into continuous fu aarm. Try to take the foowing necessary actions immediatey: 1. Push the detector Test/Hush switch to sience the aarm. Warning: Never remove the battery to sience the aarm. Removing the battery removes your protection! Pushing the Test/Hush button mutes the aarm for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the aarm resumes if CO eves remain high. Ca your emergency service (Pease write the teephone numbers): (te. No....); or fire department: (te. No....). 2. Immediatey move to fresh air - outdoors or by opening door/window. Do a head count to check that a persons are accounted for. Do 4

5 not reenter the premises nor move away from the open door/window unti the emergency services responders have arrived, the premises have been aired out, and your aarm remains in norma condition. 3. After foowing steps 1-3, if your aarm reactivates within a 24-hour period, repeat steps 1-3 and ca a quaified technician (Te. No....) to investigate for sources of CO gas from fue burning equipment and appiances, and inspect for proper operation of this equipment. If probems are identified during this inspection, have the equipment serviced immediatey. Note any combustion equipment not inspected by the technician and consut the manufacturer instructions, or contact the manufacturers directy, for more information about CO safety and this equipment. Make sure that motor vehices are not, and have not been, operating in an attached garage or adjacent to the residence. Warning: CO gas can be extremey fata and can come from severa possibe sources. This detector ony indicates the presence of CO gas near the sensor. CO gas may be present in other areas of the premises. Action to be Taken After the Probem has been Corrected Once the probem of CO gas presence in the premises has been corrected, the detector's aarm shoud be off. After waiting for 10 minutes, push the Test/Hush button to verify that the detector is functioning propery. Warnings and Limitations This product is intended for use in ordinary indoor ocations of famiy iving units. It is not designed to measure compiance with Occupationa Safety and Heath Administration (OSHA) commercia or industria standards. Caution: The detector wi ony indicate the presence of carbon monoxide gas at the sensor. Carbon monoxide gas may be present in other areas. Individuas with medica probems may consider using warning devices which provide audibe and visua signas for carbon monoxide concentrations under 30 ppm. The aarm, incuding the sensor, is not to be ocated within 1.5m (5 feet) of any cooking appiance. The detector may not aarm at ow carbon monoxide eves. The Occupationa Safety and Heath Association (OSHA) has estabished that continuous exposure eves of 50 ppm shoud not be exceeded in an 8 hour period. Individuas with medica conditions may consider more sensitive detection devices. The CO gas detector is not suitabe as a smoke detector or fire detector. This detector is not suitabe to insta in hazardous ocations as defined in the Nationa Eectrica Code. Carbon monoxide must reach the detector for proper performance of CO gas detection. The detector may not protect peope who are at specia risk from carbon monoxide exposure by reason of age, pregnancy or medica condition. If in doubt, consut your medica practitioner. CO detectors may wear out because they contain eectronic parts that fai over time. Test your detector at east every week. Instruct chidren never to pay with the detector. Never use detergents or other sovents to cean the detector. Avoid spraying air fresheners, hair spray, paint or other aerosos near the detector. Do not paint the detector. Paint wi sea the detectors vents and interfere with detecting CO gas. Detaied information on conditions which can resut in transient CO situations: 1.
