Operation Precautions Operation Precautions Before each use, check that the unit is ready for operation (see page 31). Make sure that a hoses and cabes are routed correcty and safey without obstruction! Otherwise: Risk of extubation! Danger of disconnection! Livey patients must be observed with particuar care. If the hood, front fap, side fap or access ports are open or the bed is pued out or the hose modues removed, watch the patient carefuy to prevent any possibiity of their faing out of the incubator. Do not ean or appy weight on the bed when it has been pued out. Maximum oad 5 kg. Do not use the X-ray drawer as writing support or bed for the patient. Aow time for the incubator to warm up before use (page 119). Additiona externa heat sources, such as sunight, heat amps, spotamps and eectric cushions shoud be avoided! They cause the temperature inside the Caeo to rise in an uncontroed manner. The baby s core temperature must be reguary monitored with an independent thermometer. The concusions to be drawn from the measured skin temperature are the responsibiity of the attending physicians. Skin temperature contro mode must not be used on babies who are in shock or who have a high temperature! Skin temperature contro mode must not be used on twins, since the Caeo contros ony the temperature for one baby. Risk of hypothermia or overheating! For twins, the air temperature contro mode must be used. Make sure that you do not confuse the positions for the skin temperature sensors. Skin temperature contro is reguated by the yeow skin temperature sensor (T1). If this sensor is stuck to the wrong part of the body, the patient may be excessivey warmed! Do not pace any coths over the hot air duct. The temperature contro system woud be disrupted, causing a risk of burning if the air from the hot air duct is channeed directy to the patient. The castor with direction ock does not have a brake. When parking the unit, appy the brakes of a braked castors. When treating arger chidren, their increased heat production coud ead to a rise in the air temperature inside the Caeo if this is the case remove the doube wa. The room temperature must be at east 3 o C ower than the air temperature in the Caeo incubator. When treating twins, pay attention to the risk of cross-infection! Fire hazard from suppy of O2 No naked ights or smoking. Texties, oi and pastics can very easiy catch fire and burn rapidy in an O2 enriched atmosphere! A fittings and seas in contact with oxygen must be kept free of oi and grease! Open vaves on O2 cyinders sowy! Do not use Caeo in the presence of fammabe anaesthetic gases or disinfecting agents. Risk of exposion! Do not use or keep fammabe iquids, such as acoho, ether or acetone, in Caeo! Do not use any eectrica equipment in the patient capsue, uness this equipment is expressy designed for use in exposion-hazard areas. Note the physioogica risks from O2. During O2 therapy, monitor the O2 concentration with a separate O2 monitor. The air in the incubator shoud ony be enriched with O2 when prescribed by a doctor. Oxygen is cassed as a drug. O2 enrichment must be controed on the basis of measured O2 saturation in the patient s bood (SaO2 or SpO2). Otherwise, there is a danger of hyperoxaemia (possibiity of damage to the eyes) or hypoxaemia (possibiity of brain damage). Medicaments and simiar substances must not be atomised in the patient capsue. Correct functioning of the incubator may be impaired by the precipitation of atomised substances. 40

Operation Precautions Do not cover the sensor unit and do not hang anything from the sits in the sensor unit. Keep the sits of the sensor unit free of impurities. In the event of a power faiure, the CO2 eve in the patient capsue may rise due to an insufficient suppy of fresh air. Pay attention to the risk of CO2 poisoning! The centra aarm ight can be deactivated (see page 137). Aways pay attention to the bar LEDs and the aarm signa on the contro unit. Front faps When cosing the front faps, make sure that the patient is not ying in the cosing path. The front faps are not propery shut unti the red atches are no onger visibe. When opening and cosing the front faps, make sure that hoses and cabes are not caught in the moving doube wa! The moveabe doube wa must be positioned parae to the front fap otherwise the warm air duct may be obstructed! Side faps When opening and cosing the side faps, make sure that the hoses and cabes are routed safey and cear of any obstructions! The side faps are not propery shut unti the red atches are no onger visibe. Canopy The canopy must not be used as a shef for aying cothing, instruments etc. Do not hang any objects from the hooks for the doube was. Before moving the canopy, make sure that nothing has been aid on top of it. When fitting and removing the canopy cover hod it firmy in your hand. The canopy instaation catch must engage correcty. Do not ift the canopy when engaged. Do not tit the canopy forwards. When cosed, make sure that the canopy cover sits firmy in pace! Titing/height adjustment Ensure that the cabes and hoses are routed correcty and safey without obstruction. Hoses and/or cabes risk being trapped when titing the Caeo and when opening and cosing the front fap. Contro unit Position the contro unit so that the screen is ceary visibe from the working area. Do not mechanicay oad the cabe by e.g. hanging appiances from it. If the contro unit is mounted on the hande side, never remove the cabe from the cabe guides on the basic poe. Do not pace any iquid containers above the contro unit. When fitting accessories, pease note: The accessory equipment must not coide with the unit when adjusting the tit ange and height of Caeo. The accessory equipment on the hande side must not move with the main unit during height adjustment of Caeo (page 121). Observe the maximum oads. Danger of overturning the unit! Kangaroo mode The patient s core temperature must be monitored constanty, because it is outside the controed cimate. Particuar attention must be paid to critica patients vita parameters. When using Phototherapy Absorption of ight through the baby s skin wi suppy heat, which may increase the baby s core temperature. For this reason: Roughy 15 minutes before starting phototherapy, decrease the air temperature setting for the incubator air by about 2 o C. Decrease the set vaue for humidity. Room temperature must be at east 3 o C ower than the air temperature in Caeo. This vaue appies to Dräger Type 4000 phototherapy units. When using other phototherapy units, especiay units without a buit-in fan, the temperature in the Caeo incubator may rise even more sharpy. Phototherapy may ony be used with a stand! The core temperature of the baby must be monitored with particuar care during phototherapy! The suppy of fuid to the baby must be increased, e.g. by parentra infusion, to compensate for the increased oss of water during phototherapy. The phototherapy amp and Caeo canopy must not be covered with coths, auminium foi or other materias in order to boost the phototherapeutic effect risk of heat buidup, as the incubator cannot be adequatey cooed with ambient air. Danger of overheating the patient. 41

Operation Precautions Weighing scae Ony use the buit-in scaes to determine the weight of the patient. If you fai to observe the Instructions for Use (see page 87), considerabe measuring errors may occur when determining the weight. Consequenty, to make sure that critica therapeutic decisions based on patient weight are correct, the weight indicated by the integrated scaes must be checked against a reference measurement carried out on externa scaes. In-house transport An even foor surface must be ensured when moving the Caeo incubator. The incubator must not be used outside the hospita buiding, as the castors may be damaged or disodged. The Caeo may ony be moved when empty. High noise eves Excessive noise eves that can disturb the patient may be caused by: using O2 head boxes and deivering pressurised gases, wear on the bearings of the fan motor, pacing objects on the canopy. Observe the specified maintenance intervas see page 106. Eectrica safety Ony use eectromedica anciary equipment conforming to IEC / EN Do not use mutiway adapters to connect the power suppy of the Caeo! The patient eakage current may rise above the permitted imits if the protective earth conductor fais whie equipment is connected to the socket strip. In such cases, the risk of eectric shock cannot be excuded. When using the integrated socket strip: take into account the tota eakage current and tota current consumption! See "Technica Data" on page 118. Ony connect externa devices to the interfaces if Caeo is connected to the power suppy socket via the power cabe or the device is earthed via the earth connection on the back of the unit. Otherwise an eectrica hazard coud be possibe. Caeo does not monitor the power suppy to externa devices. Ceaning mode Ceaning mode shoud ony be used when Caeo is empty. After use, aow Caeo to coo down before dismanting. Risk of burning when touching the heater! During or after ceaning mode, condensation coud form under the aggregate housing of the Caeo! 42

See "Setting system parameters" on page

Operation Weighing scae Weighing scae * The weighing scae is ocated directy underneath the bed. During the weighing process, the entire bed and a objects on it are weighed. By ifting the patient, a other weights are deducted, so that the baby s weight can be precisey determined. The accuracy of the weight measurement is not imited by the objects paced on the bed. These additiona objects reduce the maximum dispayabe vaue of the scaes by their combined weight. In the event of patients that need hose ines, e.g. ventiation hoses, the infuence of these hoses on the measured weight, as with other types of scaes, cannot be fuy eiminated. In order to avoid fuctuating weighing resuts, the hoses shoud be removed from the ventiation hose hoder, if fitted, before weighing, and then, after aying the patient on the bed, the hoses shoud aso be aid on the bed in as strain-free and horizonta a position as possibe. Like items of cothing, if parts of the hose ines are weighed with the patient, they can ead to a sight increase in measured weight. Since these deviations are systematic, they do not affect trend observations. Weight measurements wi ony be competey accurate where taring has been used. Without taring the eve of accuracy wi be reduced. Changes made between measurements, such as, changing in the tit of the device or adding or removing objects from the cot, may resut in inaccurate resuts. For weight measurements without using tare, particuar attention must aso be paid to ensuring vibration free conditions. Pressing buttons on the contro unit too forciby may ead to vibration that may reduce the accuracy of the weight measurement. It is suggested that weighing shoud ony be conducted when the troey castors on Caeo are ocked. This heps to cushion vibrations and increases the accuracy of weight measurements. Before weighing, check that the bed is fuy pushed in and is in the horizonta position. The spirit eves show whether the bed is aigned horizontay. 1 Spirit eves for the horizonta aignment of Caeo in the transverse axis. 2 Spirit eve for the horizonta aignment of Caeo in the ongitudina axis. 1 2 To aign the bed horizontay see page * optiona equipment feature 87

Operation Weighing scae If the foowing instructions are not observed significant weighing errors may occur: Before the weighing process, make sure that both knobs are set to the scaes position. During the weighing process, Caeo must not be exposed to any vibrations. During the weighing process, no objects may be paced on the bed surface. During the weighing process, no objects may be paced been the bed and the housing. Hoses routed over the ventiation hose hoder may affect the accuracy of weighing. The DGHM ist does not provide any recommendation concerning materia compatibiity. In addition to the main active substances, disinfectants often contain other substances that can cause damage to materias. For countries where the DGHM ist is not pubished, the active substance basis of the named disinfectants (see page 95) can serve as a guide for materia compatibiity. Incubator manufacturers test surface disinfectants for materia compatibiity. The assessment of patient compatibiity is a question for speciaised medica personne or hygiene speciaists. 94

Description Description Operating principe Caeo is an incubator for premature chidren and sick neonates up to a body weight of 5 kg and a body ength of 55 cm. Inside the Caeo patient "capsue", the patients are suppied with a controed amount of heat and, if necessary, humidity * and oxygen *. The user/operator can adapt the incubator cimate to suit the needs of the patient, by adjusting the air temperature, reative humidity * and oxygen content *. The patient capsue acts as a speciay protected zone for the patient. The ambient air is therefore fitered before it enters the interior. Accessibiity Caeo provides exceent accessibiity to the patient for a norma and intensive care requirements: for this purpose, the four access ports (two on each ongitudina side) have been designed with especiay arge dimensions (Caeo JumboPorts ). The two ongitudina sides can be competey foded down. In addition, two smaer side faps at the head and foot ends of the patient can be foded down. If necessary, the canopy cover can aso be propped up from two different sides or can be fuy removed in an emergency in order to provide free accessibiity to the patient from above. A tota of ten generousy dimensioned hose through-hoe seeves ensure cear organisation and routing of hoses and cabes through the incubator. Each corner has two such seeves, which can be easiy removed, especiay during "Kangarooing" (where the patient rests in direct contact on the mother's or father's chest), to ensure ceary manageabe cabe and hose routing even when the patient is outside the patient capsue. Two other arge tubing ports are ocated in the side faps at the head and foot end. In addition, the canopy cover contains an aperture, e.g. for feeding the patient. * optiona equipment feature 124

Description Bed and mattress The bed is especiay arge in order to provide sufficient space for the patient under a variety of conditions such as hose instaation, the use of supports and storage aids, the treatment of twins in a singe incubator and turning over the patient, e.g. for reintubation in the incubator. To prevent decubitus, an extra-soft mattress is used (SoftBed Caeo * ). The bed can be pued out when the front fap is open. It can be eectricay tited in order to obtain either a head-up position (Trendeenburg position) or head-down positon (±13 o ). Twins in the Caeo (Caeo Twincubator ) Twins can be paced together in Caeo if there are no medica objections and if their tota combined weight does not exceed 5 kg. When treating twins in an incubator, Caeo must be operated in air contro mode. The treatment of twins together in a singe incubator can hep to prevent post-nata separation trauma. Direct skin contact between the twins can have positive effects on the deveopment of the patient, as is the case with "Kangaroo" mode (see page 130). If necessary, the incubator air temperature may have to be reduced, because the patients mutuay warm each other by direct contact and woud therefore risk overheating. During operation in air temperature mode, the skin temperature of the first patient can be monitored with the yeow temperature sensor, whist the second temperature channe (white probe) can be used to monitor the skin temperature of the second patient. Possibe dangers when treating twins in a singe incubator may occur e.g. from the risk of mutua infection or of confusing the patients when administering medicines or foods. Take the appropriate protective precautions when using X-rays. If twins require different ambient temperatures or an ambient air with different oxygen or humidity saturation eves, the patients shoud be treated in two separate incubators. * see Caeo Accessories range. 125

Description X-rays With the X-ray drawer, which is accessibe from outside, the patient can be X-rayed in the incubator without having to be removed or ifted. The X-ray drawer can be pued out without having to open the Caeo front fap. Unnecessary disturbance of the patient is therefore avoided. A grid is provided on the X-ray drawer to hep aign the X-ray cassette. Weighing scae * With the optionay fuy integrated incubator weighing scae, the weight of the patient can be determined without having to remove the patient from the protective cimate of the incubator. Even with the buit-in scaes, the use of the X-ray drawer remains possibe. To weigh, the patient must be ifted once in order to reset the scaes to a zero point. The patient can then be paced back on the mattress. The current and previous weight are dispayed for information. The resuts of the ast 30 weighs can be graphicay represented in the trend dispay. Weighing without ifting the patient again (without new tare measurement) is possibe. This option is usefu when the weight has to be taken again for checking purposes shorty after the first weigh, or if e.g. the weight with fu and empty nappies has to be determined. The entire weighing procedure is accompanied by short audibe signas, so that the operator's fu attention can be paid to the patient. When weighing the patient inside an incubator, take care to ensure that hoses and cabes are not jammed in the bed or distort the weight measurement. If the weight is determined with hoses and cabes, the best resuts are obtained if the hoses and cabes are removed from the ventiation hose hoder of the bed and aid on the surface of the bed as horizontay and as strain-free as possibe. The weighing scae in the Caeo comprises four weighing eements ocated underneath the bed, an eectronic measuring and anaysis unit and a specia page on the contro monitor. In norma mode, the entire bed rests on these four weighing eements under the bed. A safety system prevents the weighing eements being damaged if oads of more than 10 kg are appied. When removing the bed, it shoud be raised sighty by turning two fixing knobs so that it can then be pued out smoothy. * optiona equipment feature 126

Description Airfow Routing The heated and humidified air fows into the canopy from both sides. It is guided up the inside of the front fap, aong the canopy cover and then down the two transverse sides by suction. The air from the interior is mixed with fresh ambient air by an air fiter and is circuated by a fan impeer. Aong this path, the air is channeed past an eectricay powered heater and is humidified if necessary *. The patient ies in a cam zone with ow airfow speeds. Heat oss due to fow is kept to a minimum. When opening the arge faps or access ports (Caeo JumboPorts ), an efficient hot air curtain remains to prevent cooing in the patient compartment Air temperature contro The user sets the desired air temperature in the patient capsue by means of the contro pane (set vaue for air temperature in air temperature mode). The current air temperature is measured by the air temperature sensor in the patient capsue (at the patient's head end of the incubator) and is then compared to the set vaue. If the set vaue is greater than the actua measured air temperature, the heater receives the signa to appy more heat. The air temperature inside Caeo therefore increases. If the set vaue is ower than the actua measured air temperature, the heater receives the signa to appy ess heat. The air temperature inside Caeo drops. If the current air temperature deviates from the set vaue by more than ±1.5 o C ** an aarm is triggered. The audibe signa of this aarm can be muted by the user. As soon as the deviation in the measured air temperature is within ±1.5 o C ** of the set vaue (see above), the aarm is canceed. * optiona equipment feature ** other configurations possibe 127

Description Caeo temperature contro characteristics The desired temperature increase is achieved rapidy due to the high heating power. A temperature reduction takes onger, due to the good therma insuation of the incubator. Note on setting the air temperature set vaue in the Caeo : The patient has imited heat oss due to airfow, because the airfow rate above the mattress is ow. heat oss through the mattress, because the mattress is we insuated. heat oss due to evaporation, provided that humidity * is set reativey high (greater than 60 %). heat oss due to radiation, provided that the doube wa ** is instaed. Skin temperature measurement Two skin temperature sensors can be connected to measure the skin temperature (yeow skin temperature sensor) and periphera temperature (white skin temperature sensor). The measured vaue of the yeow skin temperature sensor is used to reguate the incubator heater in "skin temperature contro mode". ThermoMonitoring The term ThermoMonitoring refers to the continuous measurement and dispay of a centra temperature and a periphera temperature. Instead of the centra temperature, a near-core skin temperature can be used, as is the case e.g. during skin temperature contro at the incubator. The continuous dispay of the difference between these two temperatures permits eary detection of the occurrence of cod stress. Heat stress, thermoreguation probems and e.g. infections can aso be more rapidy detected by dispaying the two temperature vaues and evauating their difference. Consequenty, Caeo provides the possibiity of switching between a standard screen with arge numeric digits and a trend screen showing the trend graph of a maximum of two temperatures. In this way, the difference between near-core skin temperature and periphera temperature required by ThermoMonitoring can be dispayed continuousy. In addition, by means of trend anaysis, vaues from the past can be caed up for subsequent expanation, e.g. the onset of sickness symptoms or the deveopment of hypotherma stress. * optiona equipment feature ** see Caeo Accessories range 128

Description Vaues going back a maximum of seven days in the past can be accessed. In addition, the desired time window can be set (between 3 hours and seven days). With the "Trend Main Page" option seected from the main menu, the user can preconfigure which trend to dispay when switching over between numerica dispay and trend dispay. In addition to dispaying the two skin temperatures, the dispay can show the foowing parameters: air temperature, humidity *, oxygen * and the weight *, with a memory of up to 30 weight readings. Skin temperature contro Caeo is operated in skin temperature mode, this mode can be set on the contro unit. At east the yeow skin temperature sensor (skin 1) must be pugged in and correcty attached to the patient. The user sets the set vaue for the skin temperature on the contro pane. The actua skin temperature of the patient is measured by the yeow skin temperature sensor (skin 1) and compared with the set vaue. The difference between the set vaue and the measured actua vaue is used to contro the air temperature in Caeo between a minimum of 20 o C and a maximum of 39 o C. If the set vaue is greater than the currenty measured skin temperature (skin too cod), the heater receives a signa to suppy more heat. The air temperature in Caeo rises, thereby aso increasing the skin temperature of the patient. If the set vaue is ower than the actua measured air temperature (skin too hot), the heater receives a signa to appy ess heat. The air temperature inside Caeo drops, thereby aso reducing the skin temperature of the patient. The onger the deviation between the set vaue and the actua measured vaue persists, the more powerfuy heat is suppied by the heater (if the skin is too cod) or the more the air temperature in Caeo is reduced (if the skin is too hot). Skin temperature Set vaue Actua vaue contros Skin temperature Actua vaue Set vaue contros Air temperature Air temperature 126 Waiting for the controer to sette. The patient's skin temperature varies frequenty, e.g. due to food intake or medica care. Deviations of a few tenths of a degree are norma. Therefore: Ony change the set vaue of the skin temperature if the core temperature needs to be changed. If the actua temperature deviates from the set skin temperature by more than ±0.5 o C **, an aarm is sounded. This audibe aarm can be muted by the user. As soon as the measured vaue deviates from the set vaue by ess than ±0.5 o C ** (see above), the aarm is deactivated again. * optiona equipment feature ** other configurations possibe 129

Description Kangaroo Mode Kangaroo mode (Caeo KangarooMode ) simpifies the operation of the incubator when the baby is removed to have direct skin contact with the mother or father ("Kangarooing"). This mode provides the user with extended monitoring functions in order to detect overheating and overcooing of the patient even when the patient is outside the patient capsue. Other Caeo features designed to ensure easier remova of the patient from Caeo for "Kangarooing": the removabe tubing grommets (seeves) in the corners of the incubator, the faciity to ower the patient's bed by up to 80 cm (with the variabe "height adjustment" option) the minima space requirement of the fod-down front fap of the Caeo. The incubator is switched over to Kangaroo mode on the contro pane after pressing the "Menu" button. Once Kangaroo mode is activated, the foowing functions are automaticay activated: Switchover to "Standby" mode Since the baby is no onger inside Caeo during "Kangarooing", the baby's skin temperature shoud no onger be used as a measure for controing the air temperature inside the incubator. Instead, the incubator shoud be set up so that after terminating "Kangarooing" and putting the patient back inside Caeo, the incubator shoud aready be heated to the same temperature and cimate as when the baby was taken out of the incubator. Consequenty, during "Standby" mode, the foowing ogic is appied: If Caeo was previousy operated in skin temperature mode, it is switched over to air temperature mode for the duration of Kangaroo mode. The set vaue for the air temperature is automaticay set to the average air temperature over the ast three minutes. The previous set vaue for the skin temperature is stored in buffer memory. If Caeo was previousy operated in air temperature mode, the setting remains unchanged. Automatic aarm muting Since, generay, after switching over to Kangaroo mode the user opens the fap and takes the baby out of the incubator, aarms triggered by opening the faps are no onger meaningfu. Consequenty, a aarms that woud normay be activated by opening the arge faps are automaticay suppressed for the next 4 minutes see page

Description Activation of specia Kangaroo mode aarms During Kangarooing, the skin (and core) temperature of the patient is frequenty found to rise. However, in some cases, the patient is cooed. Consequenty, the core or skin temperature patient must be reguary monitored. In order to perform this monitoring with as itte nuisance as possibe to mother/father and baby, Caeo provides the faciity for activating specia Kangaroo mode aarms during operation in Kangaroo mode. These aarms are set in the configuration. The foowing aarm imits are set: Lower aarm imit for the skin temperature (Skin 1; T1) = Skin aarm T1 min. Lower aarm imit for the periphera temperature (Skin 2; T2) = Skin aarm T2 min. Lower aarm imit for the difference between T1 and T2 = Aarm Tmin. Upper aarm imit for the difference between T1 and T2 = Aarm Tmax. These kangaroo aarms have the foowing significance: Skin T1 min. aarm The aarm is triggered as soon as the skin temperature (T1, yeow skin temperature sensor) fas beow the set vaue. Skin T1 37 C Aarm deactivated Aarm imit 36 Skin T1 aarm activated t (min) 217 Skin T2 min. aarm The Skin T2 min. aarm is triggered as soon as the periphera temperature (T2, white skin temperature sensor) fas beow the set vaue. Skin T2 C Aarm deactivated 34 Skin T2 aarm activated t (min) 218 T min. aarm The aarm is triggered if the difference between Skin T1 and Skin T2 is ess than the set vaue (risk of hyperthermia). C Aarm deactivated Skin T1 T = Skin T1 Skin T2 <1.0 C Aarm activated t (min)

Description T max. aarm This aarm is triggered if the difference between Skin T1 and Skin T2 is above the set vaue (risk of hypothermia). C Aarm deactivated Skin T 1 T >4 C Skin T 2 Aarm activated t (min) 220 Each of these aarms can either be set or switched in advance to "OFF". However, immediatey after switching over to Kangaroo mode, automatic aarm muting is activated for the first four minutes, incuding for a specia Kangaroo aarms, in order to give the patient time to adapt to the new environment. O2 enrichment When adjusting the oxygen concentration in the patient capsue, the additiona oxygen suppy is metered by a microprocessor-controed vave. The oxygen is thereby channeed into the air routing system, so that it is heated and humidified with the air. 132

Description Cosed-oop humidity contro * Caeo provides the possibiity for hygienic humidification of the incubator air. In this system, water is suppied from a separate water container (water bag or water tank) and heated. With cosed-oop humidity contro, the desired reative humidity is set, and Caeo then automaticay reguates the evaporator output of the humidifier. Caeo can contro the humidity in two ways: By manua input of the desired reative humidity or Automatic humidity contro (AUTO humidity). Manua humidity contro A vaue between 30 % and 99 % reative humidity can be set. The actua humidity concentration is measured by the humidity sensor in the patient capsue (integrated in the sensor modue at the patient's head end of the capsue). If the set vaue is higher than the actua measured reative humidity (air too dry), the humidifier receives a signa to aow more water vapour into the patient capsue. The reative humidity inside Caeo therefore rises. If the set vaue is ower than the actua measured reative humidity (air too humid), the humidifier receives a signa to aow ess water vapour into the patient capsue. The reative humidity inside Caeo therefore fas. AUTO humidity When AUTO mode is set, the set vaue for the reative humidity is cacuated and set automaticay by the system as a function of the air temperature (see graph). This function is based on the observation that sma and reativey immature patients require both a higher air temperature and higher reative humidity than arger patients. Consequenty, in AUTO mode, the set vaue for reative humidity is cacuated and set as a function of the air temperature. The ower the air temperature setting, the ower the set vaue for reative humidity. Set vaue for reative humidity [% r.h.] Automatic cosed-oop humidity contro Set vaue for air temperature [ C] 105 * optiona equipment feature 133

Description Ceaning Mode * Ceaning mode is ony avaiabe if Caeo is equipped with humidity contro. Ceaning mode (Caeo CeanSwitch ) simpifies the task of ceaning Caeo and must be used after ending operation of Caeo (see page 77), after the water suppy has bee disconnected and the water suppy connection pipe has been removed (see page 97). Ceaning mode may ony be used if Caeo is empty. Ceaning mode is activated on the contro pane after pressing the "Menu" button and seecting the "Ceaning Mode" option. In Ceaning mode, the water heater is made to run dry. For this purpose, the humidifier is heated to above 100 o C, so that a remaining water in the humidifier is evaporated. After the residua water has been evaporated, the temperature in the humidifier is maintained at a temperature higher than 100 o C for approximatey 10 minutes onger. Then the humidifier is aowed to coo down. During or after ceaning mode, condensation may form under the aggregate housing of the Caeo! When there is no onger any danger of burns for the user, a message is dispayed on the screen to inform the user that Ceaning Mode is compete and that the incubator can be dismanted for disinfecting and ceaning (see "After competing ceaning mode" on page 98). * optiona equipment feature 134

Description Safety systems After switching on the incubator, a sef-test is performed to test a memory addresses of the microprocessor contro system and the faut-free running of the program segments. The functions of the contro eements and feedback messages are tested by switching on and off. This test is aso performed at ten-minute intervas during operation. In this test, a modues instaed in the incubator are tested. Any error message wi be dispayed even when the defective modue is switched off. Any unauthorised operating state wi cause Caeo to switch off the heater or water heater as a safety precaution. An additiona temperature sensor in the hot air duct restricts the heat output in cases were the contro oop woud otherwise operate the heater at fu power for a ong period.
