3 Drummond Elementary School Below is a partial list of major projects completed at Drummond Elementary. Drummond, which opened in 2002, is Pattonville s newest school. The rest of Pattonville s schools are between 40 and 50 years old. Students who now attend Drummond would have previously attended Carrollton Elementary and Carrollton Oaks Elementary schools in Bridgeton. However, both schools were closed and torn down as part of the airport expansion, and Lambert Airport provided Pattonville the funds to build Drummond as a replacement school. Enhance restroom/building ventilation Improve gym lighting Add a sound amplification system to all classrooms Carrollton/Carrollton Oaks Improvements With the closure of both Carrollton and Carrollton Oaks schools looming in the future, Pattonville only used bond funds to purchase items that could be transported and used in the replacement school (Drummond) Provide new furniture and Carrollton/Carrollton Oaks Improvements s Media Center (Carrollton) Restroom Above, a teacher wears a microphone that feeds her voice into a classroom amplification system. The enhance sound in the room and enable students to listen better and stay on task in the classroom. At left, a speaker is part of the amplification system. The Drummond School Improvement Team included the use of the in classrooms in the Drummond School Improvement Plan as one way to improve student achievement. Drummond Elementary School opened in 2002 as a replacement school for Carrollton and Carrollton Oaks elementary schools. Both schools were closed and torn down as part of the airport expansion, and Lambert Airport provided Pattonville funds to build Drummond Elementary School as a replacement school. The nurse s office was expanded as part of the 2000 bond issue A fence was added to the Rose Acres property to separate the school grounds from the neighboring property to enhance safety and security. At 54 years of age, Holman is the second oldest school in the district (Remington is the oldest at 55 years). 9 Pattonville Heights Middle School Complete fire protection system (new sprinkler system) Upgrade science labs Provide cabinets, new flooring and paint in art room Replace fabric entryway walls with new drywall Improve cafeteria (sneeze guard with lighting, soffit, Combi-Oven) Remove and replace obsolete heating, ventilation and air conditioning Improve building ventilation/reduce heating, ventilation and air conditioning noise in classrooms Replace boilers Repair water-damaged corridor and classroom walls/upgrade building appearance Repair damaged structural slabs and roof deck Upgrade science labs Replace shop Replace carpet and vinyl tile flooring Upgrade kitchen ventilation and exhaust Install new dust collector system in Industrial Arts Upgrade food lab to meet Americans Replace bleachers Reconfigure and repair parking and drive areas/upgrade to comply with Americans Repair damaged acoustical ceilings Replace writing lab computers Upgrade interior doors with Americans doors and hardware Install motorized backstops Remove asbestos Careful management of bond funds enabled Pattonville to complete additional security enhancements after the 2000 bond issue, such as renovating the entrances to school buildings. At Pattonville Heights, traffic was restricted to having to pass through the main office, and a new canopy clarified where visitors should enter the school entrance. Major roof repairs were completed as part of the 2000 bond issue. In addition, parking was added and the driveway reconfigured to improve safety by separating bus traffic from car traffic.
