To speed up the award ceremony, would all Prize Winners collect near the stage at 3:50pm. Please note that all exhibits must remain staged until after the Presentation of Awards. SHOW RULES 1. All sections of the Show are open to all unless otherwise stated. 2. All exhibits in sections 1 to 4 must have been grown by the exhibitor in their garden or allotment. 3. Pot plants must have been owned by the exhibitor for at least three months. 4. No exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit in any class. 5. Entry fees: Adults 10p. per entry; One entry form (as enclosed) must be used for each exhibitor. (Extra forms available free from the Show Secretary, 29 Collington Rise, TN39 3RS). 6. No personal identity marks shall be placed on any exhibit other than the exhibitor's card provided, and this in a manner directed by the Stewards, e.g. Name downwards. 8. Exhibitor's cards will be available in the Hall from 8:30 am am. on the day of the Show. 9. Exhibits must be placed as directed by the Show Stewards. Once placed, no exhibit may be moved (except by a steward) until after the awards have been presented. 10. Unless otherwise stated, cash prizes in all classes will be: 1 st - 50p; 2 nd - 30p; 3 rd - 20p. Prize money will be paid between 3pm and 4:30pm on the Show day at the Treasurer's Office. Money not collected will be forfeited. 11. Challenge Trophy points will be: 1 st - 4 points; 2 nd - 3 points; 3 rd - 2 points; Highly Commended - 1 point. 12. Challenge trophies will be held by the winners until two weeks prior to the next Annual show, when they must be returned in a clean condition to the Show Secretary. 13. No responsibility shall be accepted by the Society or the committee for damage to or loss of an exhibit, or to the personal property of an exhibitor or viewer. 14. Unless otherwise stated, judging will be conducted under the code of rules laid down by the Royal Horticultural Society, the Royal National Rose Society, the National Dahlia Society and the National Sweet Pea Society. The Floral Art will be judged using NAFAS guidelines. On the merits of any exhibit the decision of the Judges shall be final. 15. Any Protest must be lodged with the Show Secretary by not later than 3 pm. on the day of the Show. 1 must be deposited, which will be refunded if the complaint is justified. 16. All matters not provided for in the foregoing rules shall be decided by the Show Committee. 26 7

Failure to conform may cause disappointment. AV = Any variety; AVV = Any variety or varieties. Please show names of varieties exhibited as this adds to the enjoyment of those viewing the exhibits. Section 1 - Flowers Flowers should be shown as cut from the plant and, unless otherwise specified, only the foliage of that particular flower should be used. No supports are allowed except for Begonias & large Orchids. Please note: The N.D.S has ruled that no wire or support may be used for Dahlias. Exhibitors must supply their own vases or containers. Clean jars and bottles are acceptable, but they should not bear brand names. Where possible use a vase of a shape which shows the exhibit to advantage and arrange blooms tastefully. For the purposes of the schedule, Antirrhinums, Petunias, Verbenas and Phlox Drummondii will be classed as Annuals. Section 2 - Vegetables Vegetables should be clean, root crops washed and unwanted side roots removed carefully. If more than one kind is shown in a class, these should be uniform in size and shape. Potatoes Best exhibits are medium sized with clear skins and inconspicuous eyes. Beans Should be fresh, long, straight and with little outward sign of seeds, and shown with stalks. Cabbages Should have 10cm (4 ) of stalk left on, and only damaged outer leaves removed. Beetroot Should be medium sized with clear smooth skin, dark flesh and shown with only 7.5cm (3 ) of foliage. Carrots Medium sized, shapely, good colour and only 7.5cm (3 ) of foliage left on. 9

Cucumbers Onions Should be well ripened, having thin necks, tied, roots removed and with minimum skinning. Shallots Tops tied and placed upright on a bed of sand in a saucer or plate. Lettuce Roots should be left on. Tomatoes Should be firm, of uniform size and have calyces left on. Rules for The President's Top Tray Class 38 This Class is sponsored by our President Mr Alan Gilby. Class 38 is for four vegetables chosen from the following six. The number required of each vegetable is given in brackets. Potatoes (3) Onions (3) Carrots (3) Tomatoes (3) Beetroot (3) Runner Beans (6) The trays are provided by the Society and all vegetables must be displayed within the tray. Only parsley may be used to dress the tray. Please ensure you leave the tray behind when clearing your exhibit. The class is an open class. All vegetables will carry 20 points maximum, and there will be a maximum of 10 points for presentation. Prizes will be: 1 st - 5; 2 nd - 3; 3 rd - 2. Section 3 Fruits Soft Fruits must have stalks left on and be shown on plates not larger than 18cm (7 ) diameter. Stone Fruits must have stalks left on and be shown on plates not larger than 20cm (8 ) diameter. Apples and Pears should not be polished. Section 4 Members This Section is open only to members of Little Common Horticultural Society. Please see the appropriate notes from Sections 1 to 3 above. 11

Section 5 Floral Art An exhibit is plant material with or without accessories. Flowers need not be grown by the exhibitor, unless otherwise stated. Except for Class 89 the exhibits to be staged in an area not exceeding 70cm wide (27 ). Section 6 Domestic Classes 90 to 101 must be covered with the plastic covers provided. Cakes and biscuits, etc. should be shown on a plate with a doily. Flans should be shown out of their container. Jams should be in clean jars, filled to the top, properly labelled, with neatly trimmed covers or twist/screw-on lids. There should be no advertising material on the jars or lids. Metal lids must not be used on lemon curd. Chutney should be mature, i.e. not less than three months old. Jars must be clean, filled to the top, properly labelled and with vinegar proof lids. Jars must be labelled; Hot, Medium or Mild. Section 7 Photography Photographs are to be a maximum size of 17.8 x 12.7 cm (7 by 5 ) and un-mounted. Photographs may be Monochrome or Colour. Photographs must not have been previously shown at L.C.H.S. Sainsbury Challenge Cup for the highest total points in sections 1 to 4 of the Show. (Not open to the Winner of the R.H.S Banksian Medal.) R.H.S. Banksian Medal for the largest amount of prize money won in sections 1 to 4 of the Show. (Not open to the winners in the previous two years.) 1 FLOWER SECTION Devon Cup for the Best Exhibit of Flowers in the Show in Classes 6 to 18. Gardening Group Challenge Cup for the most points in Section 1. Collins Cup for the best exhibit in Classes 25 to 34. Bonsai Cup for the best exhibit of a Bonsai in Classes 35 & 36.
