2 ILMINGTON SHOW PROGRAMME 2018 (Subject to confirmation) 1.00 Start Dog agility display 2.15 Village Dog Show Small ring 2.30 Opening of the Horticultural Show - marquee - FREE ENTRY 3.00 Pig roast commences serving Classic car parade Dog agility display 4.30 Presentation of Horticultural trophies - marquee All times are subject to alteration on the day. Other ring events will be announced during the afternoon. Flypast by RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfires. Operations permitting. Time to be announced. Major Mustard s puppets will perform at various times throughout the afternoon.the AD Concert Band will perform from 1.30pm. Entrance to Show Adult 4.00; Children 2.00 Children under 5 and cars FREE Please put litter in bins provided and clean up after your dog. 2
3 SCHEDULE All exhibits to be staged between 8.30am and 10.15am on the morning of the Show and removed between 5.00pm and 5.30pm. Note: Names of varieties of flowers, fruit and vegetables would be welcome, if known. All exhibits in Section A must be grown in the exhibitor s own garden. Criteria for judging for each class may be found on the Ilmington website at SECTION A: VEGETABLES AND FRUIT (No garnish for vegetables) 1. Six shallots. 2. Four onions, maximum 3 / 7.5cm diameter, lightly trimmed. 3. Four onions, over 3 / 7.5cm diameter, lightly trimmed. 4. Four bulbs of garlic, any variety. 5. Four potatoes, white. 6. Four potatoes, coloured. 7. Six French beans. 8. Six runner beans. 9. Longest runner bean. 10. Three carrots, washed but not scrubbed or trimmed. 11. Four apples of one variety, cooking. 12. Four apples of one variety, dessert. 13. Heaviest apple, any variety. 14. Four pears. 15. Four plums. 16. A saucer of soft fruit, with calyces attached, any variety. 17. Five tomatoes, with calyces attached, to be judged on flavour. 18. Five tomatoes, small fruited and cherry cultivars, with calyces attached, to be judged on flavour. 19. A pair of exotic vegetables, to be judged on individual quality. An exotic vegetable is one not already named in the Schedule. 20. Three beetroot, washed but not scrubbed or trimmed. 21. One cucumber, any variety. 22. Container of fresh culinary herbs (up to five named varieties) in water. 23. Heaviest marrow (any variety). 24. Three courgettes, any variety, 8 /20cm or less in length not including flower. 25. Most unusually shaped vegetable (any type).. SECTION B: FLOWERS 26. Pot plant, flowering, including fuchsias, in a medium sized pot maximum 3
4 diameter 8 /20cm. 27. Orchid grown in a pot of any size. 28. Container of mixed perennial flowers, six stems, all different varieties. 29. Container of mixed annual flowers, six stems, all different varieties. 30. Most sweetly scented bloom in a container. 31. Pelargonium in a pot not more than 30cm/12 diameter, any variety 32. One specimen rose, any variety, in a container, with or without foliage. 33. Container of four roses of more than one type. 34. One spray of a shrub rose (to include floribundas). 35. Container of sweet peas, six stems Container of dahlias, three cactus. 37. Container of dahlias, three stems of the same type (other than cactus) e.g. single, ball, pompom, etc. 38. One dahlia bloom, any variety. 39. Container of mixed foliage, maximum width of display 12 / 30cm. 40. Collection of hosta leaves, minimum of three different varieties. 41. Container of three asters, any variety. 42. Container of three gladioli, any variety. 43. Container of seedheads, minimum of three different varieties. 44. Largest sunflower head, any variety. SECTION C: FLOWER ARRANGING Any exhibit which is not according to the Schedule will be disqualified. No artificial plant material to be included. Height is unlimited in classes 45-46, Any book, musical, film or play: exhibit with accessories. Space allowed 2 /61cm. 46. Arrangement of three garden-grown flowers plus foliage. Space allowed 2 /61cm. 47. Hand-tied posy. Space allowed 1 /30cm. Recommended presentation: in a jam jar with water. 48. A gentleman s buttonhole for a wedding. 49. A ladies corsage for Ascot. 50. Mixed flowers and foliage in a mug- any size. Open to anyone who has not won a prize in this section for the last three years. SECTION D: COOKERY Note: Jam jars should be shiny and clean and should not have trademarks. Each jar should have a waxed disc, be labelled with content and date of making, and have a sticker with the exhibitor s number on the bottom. All food should be protected with cling film and presented on a plain paper plate with the exhibitor s number on the bottom. 51. Jar of marmalade. 52. Jar of jam made from fresh or dried fruit. 4
5 53. Jar of fruit curd, any type. 54. Jar of jelly, savoury or sweet. 55. Jar of chutney, any type. 56. Four ginger biscuits. 57. Four cheese straws. 58. Small loaf of bread. 59. Four fruit scones. 60. Coffee cake. 61. Four of your favourite brownies, gluten free. 62. A savoury pasty. SECTION E: DRINKS (Alcoholic and non-alcoholic) Note: All entries should be made by the exhibitor. Bottles should be clear and should not have trademarks. Each bottle should be labelled with content and date of making, and have a sticker with the exhibitor s number on the bottom. 63. Bottle of fruit or flower wine. 64. Bottle of cider. 65. Bottle of fruit liqueur. 66. Bottle of fruit or flower cordial. SECTION F: HANDICRAFTS 67. Any item of needlework. 68. Any item of hand-knitting or crochet. 69. Any craft item you have made not mentioned above. SECTION G: ART Note: A limit of two entries per person in any one class. Maximum size 24 x24 / 60cmx60cm including frame. 70. Painting or drawing, any medium. SECTION H: PHOTOGRAPHS Note: A limit of two entries per person in any one class. All photographs to be taken by exhibitor and to be unmounted and not exceed 5 x 7 / 13x18 cm. Each photo should have the exhibitor s name and number on the back. 71. A wild hedgerow. 5

SECTION I: CHILDREN S CLASSES (aged up to and including 11) Note: In Section I, the age of the exhibitor should be stated on the entry form, the exhibitor s card and on the front of the entry itself. Parents are asked to ensure that maximum sizes stated below are not exceeded. 75. Largest sunflower head, any variety. 76. A picture of an animal or bird made from leaves. 77. A robot made out of scrap materials, maximum size 18x18x18 / 45x45x45cm. 78. A biscuit decorated as a vehicle, judged on flavour and decoration. 79. Any craft item you have made. 80. A painting or drawing, any medium and unframed, maximum size 12 x 12 /30x30cm. 81. A photograph of an animal, unmounted and not exceeding 5 x 7 / 13x18 cm. Each photo should have the exhibitor s name and number on the back. 6
7 TROPHIES The judges will have discretion not to award a trophy or certificate should there be no entries in a particular category or class regarded as being of sufficient quality. Certificates (but no cash prizes except in the case of Children s Section I) will be awarded to the competitors placed first, second and third in each class, although the judges will have the discretion to amalgamate classes within a section if the number of entries is low. 1. The Royal Horticultural Society s Banksian Medal will be awarded to the competitor who obtains the most points in the horticultural classes (Sections A and B). Competitors who won the Banksian Medial in the previous two years are not eligible to win this medal. 2. The Spenser Flower Challenge Cup for most points overall in all classes. 3. The Ilmington Village Challenge Cup for the most points in the horticultural classes (sections A and B) obtained by a resident of Ilmington parish. The winner of the Banksian Medal and/or the Spenser Flower Challenge Cup will be ineligible. 4. The 1965 Challenge Cup for the most points in the horticultural classes (Sections A and B) obtained by a non-resident of Ilmington parish. The winner of the Banksian Medal and/or the Spenser Flower Challenge Cup will be ineligible. 5. A Challenge Cup for the best exhibit of flowers in the Show (Section B). 6. The Jubilee Cup for the best exhibit in the vegetable & fruit classes (Section A). 7. The Bertie Wyton Trophy for the best exhibit by a resident of Ilmington parish in vegetable and fruit classes (Section A). The winner of the Jubilee Cup will be ineligible. 8. The Woodland Pottery Trophy for the best exhibit by a resident of Ilmington parish in the flower classes (Section B). The winner of the Challenge Cup will be ineligible. 9. The Christine Marland Cup for the best exhibit in the Rose classes. 10. The Esme Lace-Williams Cup will be awarded to the member of the Ilmington Wednesday Club with the most points in the Show. Winners of the Banksian Medal and/or the 1965 Challenge Club will be ineligible. 11. The Hersey Flower Trophy for the most points in the flower arranging class (Section C). 7
8 12. The Ladies Challenge Rose Bowl for most points in the cookery and handicrafts classes (Sections D and F). 13. The Howard Arms Trophy for the best cookery exhibit by a child (10 or under) in Section I. 14. The Handicrafts Cup for the best exhibit in the handicraft classes (Section F). 15. The J.J.W. Trophy for the best photograph in the Show, not including the children s class. 16. The Winifred Holman Cup for the best exhibit in the Children s Classes (Section I). 17. Grace s Cup for most points in the Children s Classes (Section I). POINTS and PRIZES Awarded All adult classes. (1st = 3 points) (2nd = 2 points) (3rd = 1 point) Children s Section I ONLY (Gold = 3 points) 2 (Silver= 2 points) 1 (Bronze = 1 point) 50p 8
9 RULES FOR COMPETITORS 1. Administration fee: 1-5 entries: 50p total 6-10 entries: 1.00 total more than10 entries: 1.50 total no charge for entry to Children s classes (Section I). 2. The Secretary will be at the Red Lion, Ilmington, to receive entries on Friday, 24th August, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. Entries may be sent to the Secretary at Daisy Cottage, Front St., Ilmington, CV36 4LA. No entries will be accepted in person or by post after 8.00pm on Friday, 24th August. 3. All exhibits to be staged between 8.30am and 10.15am on the morning of the Show. Exhibits must not be removed before 5.00pm, but must be removed by 5.30pm. The Committee cannot take responsibility for any exhibits not collected from the tent. 4. All exhibits in Sections A and B must be grown in the exhibitor s garden. 5. The tent must be cleared by 10.30am on the morning of the Show when judging will commence. 6. Any objection must be made in writing to the Secretary before prize-giving. Prizes may then be withheld pending enquiries. 7. Any exhibitor may enter any number of exhibits in a class, except in the Art and Photography Classes, but may not receive more than one prize in a class. 8. The decision of the judges shall be final. 9. While every care will be taken, the Committee cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss which may occur. 10. Children may enter any of the classes in the schedule and will be judged as other competitors except in Section I for children up to and including Cup winners should ensure that cups are covered by their home insurance. 12. Entries not for judging will not be accepted. 9

Entries may also be sent to the Secretary at Daisy Cottage, Front St., Ilmington, CV36 4LA to arrive by the same time. No entries will be accepted after the deadline.
