IMPORTANT EVENTS Birstwith in Bloom had a fab year last year. Although we have decided not to enter the Yorkshire in Bloom competition we have still got lots planned to prepare the village ready for re-entering in See below what we have planned. Many hands make light work so if you can come and join us for any events please do. January March April May Saturday 6th: Village Tidy. Meet at the shop at 10am and we will head out from there. Don t forget once we are done we meet back up at the shop and enjoy a sandwich. Sunday 28th: The Big Bird Watch. Meet at The Play Area at 10am. We will see what birds we see there and then head for a small walk around the village looking for anything else. Wrap up warm and bring your binoculars. Saturday 3rd March: The Big Spring Clean. After the success of last year we are running this event again. Meet at the shop at 10am. We will have litter pickers and rubbish bags at the ready. Don t forget to bring a good pair of gloves and as always there will be a sandwich from the shop after we finish. Look out for information on: Potato Planting and Cress Pot Painting. Ready for Birstwith Show Children s Classes 575 and 579. All materials provided. Saturday 7th: Wild Flower Garden. We are really excited about this project. We are planting a small wild flower garden near the play area. We will be busy on this day stripping turf and many hands make lightwork. Once the turf is stripped we will arrange another time and get some children to come and help us sow the seeds. Also during April we will be starting early and doing some balsam clearing before they develop seed heads. We have sought advise about the balsam problem and apparently regular pulling of the plant and keeping on top of it is the best approach. Keep an eye for dates through April for this but please feel free to get pulling whilst your on your dog walks!! Saturday 5th May: Village tidy. Meet at the shop at 10am and we will head out from there. Don t forget once we are done we meet back up at the shop and enjoy a sandwich. Keep your eyes peeled for the next 6 months of events 22 3
