3 RULES 1. Entries: All entries to be made on the entry form and sent, with correct entry fees, to the Show Secretary to arrive no later than last post on the Thursday prior to the Show. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances. Only one entry per class permitted. Non members are permitted to enter OPEN classes. No Member of the Society to be debarred from entering any of the classes. 2. All exhibitors must sign the entry form to confirm that: all horticultural exhibits have been grown/produced by them or have been in their possession for at least two months prior to the Show: and all non horticultural exhibits are their own unaided work. The Committee reserves the right to visit any exhibitor s garden. 3. Staging: Exhibits must be staged on Show day from 8.00 a.m a.m. Only exhibitors and Show officials are allowed in the venue during staging time, and exhibitors are asked to leave as soon as they have completed their staging. 4. Vegetables must be trimmed before entering the Show venue. All vegetables, where appropriate, should be trimmed and exhibited on plates. 5. Cut flowers should be exhibited in vases. 6. Flower Arranging: staged under NAFAS Rules, see Rule 11 overleaf. 7. Exhibitors should check that their entries comply with all the Schedule requirements regarding numbers/types of specimens, space allowed and so on, as deviations from schedule requirements may lead to disqualification. 8. Judging: will commence at a.m. and the venue will remain closed during judging.

4 RULES continued 9. Any objections/complaints shall be presented to the Show Secretary, in writing on Show Day with a 2 deposit (only refundable if objection/complaint is upheld). 10. All classes in the Flower Arranging section judged according to the NAFAS Competitions Manual, 3 rd Edition 2015, available from Prizes & Trophies will be presented at 4.30 p.m. 12. ALL PRIZE MONIES TO BE COLLECTED ON SHOW DAY. 13. Any exhibitor infringing the Rules of the Society shall forfeit all claims to any awards gained by doing so. The Committee also reserves the right to withhold any awards on the judges recommendations. 14. Points marking in all classes will be: 1 st 5, 2 nd 3, 3 rd Takedown: Exhibits may not be removed from the show benches until after the presentation of the prizes. 16. Loss/damage: Although all possible care will be taken, the Society accepts no liability with respect to loss/damage of exhibitors property over the duration of the event. Late entries will be accepted up to last post on Thursday, August 18 th 2016 Under no circumstances whatever will any entries be accepted on Saturday morning. The venue to be cleared for judging NOT LATER THAN A.M. PROMPT

5 BREAM GARDENING SOCIETY TOP VASE COMPETITION RULES a) The Top Vase class is for a vase of mixed flowers containing a total of between 5 and 10 stems taken from a minimum of two different kinds of plants. Please note that it is two different kinds of plants, two varieties of the same flower are not two kinds. b) The display will be judged out of a total of 35 points split into 25 points for Colour, Form, Condition, Quality and Freshness of the flowers on display and 10 points for the overall presentation and effect of the plants in the vase. The vase will be reviewed from all directions. Judging of the flowers should be to normal Royal Horticultural Society Rules. c) Plants used in the display must be showing flowers only, no seed heads or berries are allowed. d) The vase can be any shape and size and made from any material but must be in proportion to the display. No marks are awarded for the vase itself. e) No accessories whatsoever such as bows and additional foliage will be allowed. Foliage which is growing naturally from the flowering stem and still attached to that stem will be allowed. Packing material including florist s foam to keep the stem upright and in place is allowed. f) The winner of the Bream Gardening Society Show Top Vase Class will receive 10. Second place will receive 6. Third place will receive 4.

6 BREAM GARDENING SOCIETY TOP TRAY COMPETITION RULES 1. Top Tray class is for a display of three types of vegetables from the following list of seven. The quantity of each vegetable required for the display is in brackets and each type must consist of the same variety: CARROTS (3), CAULIFLOWER (2), ONIONS (3), PEAS (6 PODS), POTATOES (3), RUNNER BEANS (6 PODS), TOMATOES (6). Each individual type of vegetable will be judged out of a total of 20 points. This is split into three as follows: 7 points for size, shape and colour; 7 points for condition; 6 points for uniformity. All vegetables are to be displayed for effect. 2. The vegetables must be displayed within an area measuring 45 cm x 60 cm (18 x 24 ) without bending any part of them. No part of any exhibit may exceed the size of the tray. A tray or board measuring 45 cm x 60 cm (18 x 24 ) can be used to display the vegetables, or the area can be simply marked on the staging. Where a tray has a lip or edge, the internal measurements must not exceed 45 cm x 60 cm (18 x 24 ). 3. A black cloth is permitted and the tray may be painted. Parsley is permitted for garnishing, but no other foliage or accessories, such as plates, sand, rings etc. will be allowed. Onion tops may be tied or whipped using raffia. 4. The winner of the Bream Gardening Society Show Top Tray Class will receive 10. Second place will receive 6. Third place will receive 4.

13 FLORAL ARRANGEMENT SECTION Open Classes: Entry Fee 30p per class Staging on table with white paper covering, in a marquee. Some classes will be in alcoves Exhibits are arrangements which may include accessories (i.e. non plant material items) if appropriate, but plant material must predominate. Drapes, bases, backboards and title cards are always optional, if space allows, but should always be appropriate and immaculate! Schedule queries The judge (and Schedule writer), Alwyn Page, will be delighted to answer any queries from would be exhibitors and provide information on research sources. GLORIOUS GARDENS A front facing exhibit, featuring garden plant materials, staged in an alcove, space allowed 24 wide x 20 deep x 24 high. 58. MY DREAM HOLIDAY A front facing exhibit, staged in an alcove, space allowed 24 wide, 20 deep, 24 high. A title card, appropriately styled, may be used. 59. COOL BEAUTY A modern/contemporary exhibit, front facing and staged in an alcove, space allowed 24 wide, 20 deep, 24 high. 60. A TREAT FOR THE SENSES A petite exhibit in a cup with matching saucer, overall design not to exceed 10 x 10 x 10 (25cms x 25cms x 25cms). 61. CHEAP N CHEERFUL A front facing arrangement featuring supermarket flowers not exceeding 6 in value (price ticket(s) to be attached to outside of envelope) plus any foliage and/or other non flowering plant materials as needed. 14 62. SOFTLY BLENDED A front facing, contemporary exhibit in a monochromatic colour scheme (i.e. featuring one colour including tints, tones and shades) and incorporating wool. 16 CLASS 75 RECIPE BOILED FRUIT CAKE Ingredients: 4ozs margarine 6ozs granulated sugar 6ozs currants 6ozs sultanas 2ozs chopped peel 1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 heaped teaspoon mixed spice 2 beaten eggs 4ozs plain flour 4ozs self raising flour 1 cup (8 liquid ozs) water pinch of salt Method 1. Place margarine, sugar, currants, sultanas, peel, water, bicarbonate of soda and mixed spice in a pan. Bring to the boil and simmer for one minute. Pour into a large mixing bowl and allow to cool. 2. Line an 8 round tin with greased greaseproof paper. 3. Add eggs, flours and salt to the cooled mixture, mix well and pour into tin. 4. Bake in centre of oven at Gas Mark 4, 350 o F /180 o C for 1¼ hours.

17 CLASS 78 RECIPE Ingredients STANDING TEA BREAD 100 grams (4oz) plain flour 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 teaspoon salt 225 grams (8oz) wholemeal flour 2 tablespoons soft brown sugar 175ml (6 fluid ounces) milk 175ml (6 fluid ounces) water 250 grams (9 ounces) black treacle 100 grams (4 ounces) hazel nuts, chopped Method Oven setting 180 o C, 350 o F, Gas Mark 4. Sift the plain flour with baking powder, bicarbonate of soda. Add salt and stir in wholemeal flour, sugar and nuts. Mix together the milk, water and treacle and stir well. Pour the treacle mixture into a greased 1 kg (2 lb) loaf tin. Allow to stand for 20 minutes. Bake in a moderate oven for 1 ¼ 1 ½ hours. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out on a wire tray. To freeze, pack in a polythene bag or wrap in tin foil and label HONEY SECTION Open Classes: Entry Fee 30p per class Jars 12oz / 16oz 85. ONE JAR Clear Light Run Honey 86. 18 CLASS 88 RECIPE Ingredients HONEY CAKE 200 grams self raising flour 175 grams honey 110 grams butter 175 grams sultanas 2 medium eggs 110 grams glace cherries (halved) Method Preheat oven to 180 o C (Gas Mark 4). Cream butter and honey together. Beat eggs well and add them to the creamed mixture alternatively with sifted flour, then fold in the sultanas and cherries. A little milk may be added if necessary. Put mixture into a lined 150mm to 175 mm buttered circular tin. Bake for 1 hour 30 minutes approximately at 180 o C (Gas Mark 4). Note: Time and temperatures are given as a guide line as ovens vary.
