Width varies, preferred 14 min. Often includes more park-like amenities

Cost: $250-$400 per LF Wood Boardwalk w/ Rails 4 Mile Creek Greenway, Matthews clear width, 100 PSF to 5 ton rating Cost: $400-$500 per LF Concrete Boardwalk Connector at Streets of Torringdon wide, 5 ton rated, can be wood, concrete or steel substructure. Cost: $500-$700 per LF

63 Initial Project Idea Before You Ask for Funding Identify project scope from Long-Range Plan, citizen input, etc. Do Your Due Diligence: Environmental Concerns ROW issues Utility relocations Project delivery Budget/Schedule Work with your Division Office Identify funding source (i.e. MPO, NCDOT, etc.) and process for approval/allocation of funds 17

64 Professional Services All procurement must follow qualifications-based selection. The firm you choose needs to be pre-qualified by DOT in all the work codes listed OR have subs that are pre-qualified. Average length of time to sign a contract with a PEF once funding is authorized? 8 months. City holds the contract with the consultant, not NCDOT. 18

65 Funding Authorization No costs can be incurred prior to authorization. Certain deliverables need to be complete prior to requesting the authorization. Once funds are authorized, move quickly to incur costs and request reimbursement to keep project active. 19

66 Right of Way Acquisition All acquisition must follow the Uniform Act, even if you re not receiving reimbursement for Right of Way. Acquisition of Right of Way always takes longer than you think. 20

67 Contract/Bid Proposal Construction Must use NCDOT Standard Specifications (unless project is one that NCDOT does not have standards for). Construction Be familiar with NCDOT Construction Manual. Ask the Division for assistance in setting up records for consistent documentation. 21

68 Close-out Be aware of costs that LGA may need to reimburse to NCDOT. Keep all records in a safe place for future audits. 22
