7 The crucial safety standard on welding procedure tests for steel, nickel and nickel alloys has been updated. BS EN ISO :2017 Specification and qualification of welding procedures for metallic materials. Welding procedure test. Part 1: Arc and gas welding of steels and arc welding of nickel and nickel alloys BS EN ISO :2017 provides preliminary welding procedure tests that are designed to ensure that a given weld will perform as required. This part covers arc and gas welding of steels and arc welding of nickel and nickel alloys. This specification gives users the capacity to demonstrate that a proposed weld will produce a joint with the mechanical properties necessary for its intended applications. It defines how the welding procedure test should be conducted and the range of acceptable results. Importantly, the standard provides two levels of test so that it has a wide range of applications. Level 2 testing is much more extensive than Level 1 and the range of acceptable results is narrower. This standard also enables pressure vessel and pressure equipment manufacturers to conform to the essential requirements of Directive 2014/68/EU (PED) on pressure equipment and Directive 2014/29/EU (SPVD) on simple pressure vessels.
