Do not let clothing or other flmmble mterils contct hot surfces. Never use your pplince for wrming or heting the room. Do Not Use Wter or Flour on Grese Fires. Smother the fire with pn lid, or use bking sod, dry chemicl or fom-type extinguisher. When heting ft or grese, wtch it closely. Ft or grese my ctch fire if llowed to become too hot. Use Only Dry Pot holders. Moist or dmp pot holders on hot surfces my result in burns from stem. Do not let the pot holders touch hot surfce units. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING YOUR COOKTOP Know which knob controls ech surfce unit. Clen the pplince regulrly to keep ll prts free of grese tht could ctch fire. Exhust fn ventiltion hoods nd grese filters should be kept clen. Do not llow grese to ccumulte on hood or filter. Gresy deposits in the fn could ctch fire. When flming food under the hood, turn fn on. Refer to hood mnufcturer's instructions for clening. Use Proper Pn Size. This pplince is equipped with one or more surfce units of different sizes. Select utensils hving flt bottoms lrge enough to cover the surfce unit. The use of undersized utensils will expose portion of the surfce heting unit to direct contct nd my result in ignition of clothing. Proper reltionship of utensil to element will lso improve efficiency. Utensil Hndles Should Be Turned Inwrd nd Not Extend Over Adjcent Surfce Units. To reduce the risk of burns, ignition of flmmble mterils, nd spillge due to unintentionl contct with the utensil. Never Leve Surfce Units Unttended. 4 Importnt Sfety Instructions Protective Liners. Do not use luminum foil to line ny prt of the pplince. Only use luminum foil s recommended for bking if used s cover plced on the food. Any other use of protective liners or luminum foil my result in risk of electric shock or fire or short circuit. Glzed Cooking Utensils. Only certin types of glss, glss/cermic, cermic, erthenwre, or other glzed utensils re suitble for rnge top service without breking due to the sudden chnge in temperture. Check the mnufcturer's recommendtions for cooktop use. Do Not Use Decortive Surfce Element Covers. If n element is ccidentlly turned on, the decortive cover will become hot nd possibly melt. If wet sponge or cloth is used to wipe spills on hot cooking re, be creful to void stem burn. Some cleners cn produce hrmful fumes if pplied to hot surfce. Setting Surfce Controls Models with coil elements (some models) Setting Surfce Controls: 1. Plce the pn on the surfce element. 2. Push in nd turn the surfce element control knob to desired setting. 3. The surfce signl light will glow when one or more elements re turned on. Alwys turn the element off before removing the pn. The suggested settings found in the chrt below re bsed on cooking in medium-weight luminum pns with lids. Settings my vry when using other types of pns. Note: The size nd type of utensil used, nd the mount nd type of food being cooked will influence the setting needed for best cooking results. Do not plce plstic items such s slt nd pepper shkers, spoon holders or plstic wrppings on top of the cooktop when it is in use. These items could melt or ignite. Pot holders, towel or wood spoons could ctch fire if plced too close to the element Control knob shown is typicl only. sim 2 3 Indictor lights Some models hve n indictor light for ech heting unit, other models hve n indictor light for ech pir of heting units, lso some other models hve n indictor light for ll heting units. The indictor light glows s soon s heting unit is turned on. Check if the indictor light glows when the control knob of the individul heting unit is turned on. If the knob is set to very low temperture setting, the indictor my glow nd yet, the heting unit my not be heting t ll. If this hppens, turn the knob to higher setting until the heting unit comes on. When cooking is finished, quick glnce t the indictor lights in n esy check to be sure ll the control knobs hve been turned OFF. 4 Setting hi med sim lo Type of Cooking Strt most foods, bring wter to boil, pn broiling. 5 Setting Surfce Controls Models with Cermic Glss Cooktop (some models) About the Cermic Glss Cooktop The cermic cooktop hs rdint surfce elements locted below the surfce of the glss. The design of the cermic cooktop outlines the re of the surfce element underneth. Mke sure the dimeter of the pn mtches the dimeter of the element outline on the cooktop. Het is trnsferred up through the surfce of the cooktop to the cookwre. Only flt-bottom cookwre should be used. The type nd size of cookwre, the number of surfce elements in use nd their settings, re ll fctors tht will ffect the mount of het tht will spred to res beyond the surfce elements. The res surrounding the elements my become hot enough to cuse burns. About the Rdint Surfce Elements The element temperture rises grdully nd evenly. As the temperture rises, the element will glow red. To mintin the selected setting, the element will cycle on nd off. The heting element retins enough het to provide uniform nd consistent het during the off cycle. For efficient cooking, turn off the element severl minutes before cooking is complete. This will llow residul het to complete the cooking process. Hot Surfce Indictor Light (some models) Some models hve n indictor light locted on the cermic glss cooktop tht glows s soon s the glss begins to wrm up. When the heting unit is turned off, it will continue to glow s long s the glss remins wrm enough to cuse burns. Other models hve hot surfce indictors per element rrnged in cluster. Their loction is s shown in the illustrtion. Surfce Cooking Settings (Models with Cermic Glss Cooktop) Use the chrt (Figure 2) to determine the correct setting for the kind of food you re prepring. NOTE: Rdint elements hve limiter tht llows the element to cycle on nd off, even t the HI setting. This helps to prevent dmge to the cermic smooth top. Cycling t the HI setting is norml nd cn occur if the cookwre is too smll for the rdint element or if the cookwre bottom is not flt (Refer to pge 12 under Selecting Surfce Cooking Utensils). NOTE: Due to the high intensity of het generted by the surfce elements, the glss surfce will turn green when the element will be turned off. This phenomenon is norml nd the glss will come bck to its originl white color fter it hs completely cooled down. (White glss cooktops only). 6 3 2 Setting Surfce Controls Models with Cermic Glss Cooktop (some models) Operting Single Rdint Surfce Elements (ll Cermic Glss Cooktop models) Your cooktop is equipped with Single Rdint Surfce Elements. To Operte the Single Surfce Elements: 1. Plce correctly sized cookwre on the rdint surfce element. 2. Push in nd turn the surfce control knob in either direction to the desired setting (Figure 1). Turn the knob to djust the setting if desired. Strt most cooking opertions on higher setting nd then turn to lower setting to finish cooking. Ech surfce element provides constnt mount of het t ech setting. A glowing red surfce heting re extending beyond the bottom edge of the cookwre indictes the cookwre is too smll for the surfce heting re. 3. When cooking hs completed, turn the surfce control knob to OFF before removing the cookwre. Note: The Surfce Indictor light locted under the glss cooktop will come on when the control knob will be turn on nd will continue to glow until the glss cooktop hs cooled down to moderte level. The light my remin on even though the controls re turned OFF. For lrger utensil use the lrger grdutions (Figure 3); the whole surfce will be heting (Figure 5). To Operte the Dul Surfce Element: 1. Plce correctly sized cookwre on the dul surfce element. 2. Push in nd turn the control knob counterclockwise (See Figure 2) for smller cookwre or clockwise (See Figure 3) for lrger cookwre. 3. Turn the knob to djust the setting if needed. Strt most cooking opertions on higher setting nd then turn to lower setting to finish cooking. Ech surfce element provides constnt mount of het t ech setting. 7 Setting Surfce Controls Models with Cermic Glss Cooktop (some models) Wrm Zone Feture (some Cermic Glss Cooktop models) To operte the wrm zone Your pplince is equipped with wrm zone. The purpose of the wrm zone is to keep hot cooked foods t serving temperture. Alwys strt with hot food. It is not recommended to het cold food on the wrm zone. Use the wrm zone to keep cooked foods hot such s: vegetbles, grvies, csseroles, soups, stews, breds, pstries nd oven-sfe dinner plte. All food plced on the wrm zone should be covered with lid or luminum foil to mintin qulity. For best results, when wrming pstries or breds, the cover should hve n opening to llow moisture to escpe. Do not use plstic wrp to cover food. Plstic my melt onto the surfce nd be very difficult to clen. Use only dishwre, utensils nd cookwre recommended for oven nd cooktop use on the wrm zone. Unlike the surfce elements, the wrm zone will not glow red when it is hot. Alwys use potholders or oven mitts when removing food from the wrm zone s cookwre nd pltes will not be hot. Control knob shown Indictor lights is typicl only. The hot surfce indictor light, locted under the cooktop, will come on when the control is set nd will continue to glow until the glss cooktop hs cooled down to moderte level. To Set the Wrm Zone Control 1. To set the control, push in nd turn the knob. The tempertures re pproximte, nd re designte by HI, MED nd LO. However, the control cn be set t ny position between HI nd LO for different levels of heting. 2. When done, turn the control to OFF. The wrm zone will remin wrm until the hot surfce indictor light goes off. Temperture Selection Refer to the chrt for recommended heting levels. If prticulr food is not listed, strt with the medium level, nd djust s needed. 8 Surfce cooking Selecting Surfce Cooking Cookwre Cookwre should hve flt bottoms tht mke good contct with the entire surfce heting element. Check for fltness by rotting ruler cross the bottom of the cookwre (See Figure 1). Be sure to follow the recommendtions for using cookwre s shown in Figure 2. Note: The size nd type of cookwre used will influence the setting needed for best cooking results. Figure 1 Figure 2 Cookwre Mteril types The cookwre mteril determines how evenly nd quickly het is trnsferred from the surfce element to the pn bottom. The most populr mterils vilble re: ALUMINUM - Excellent het conductor. Some types of food will cuse it to drken (Anodized luminum cookwre resists stining & pitting). If luminum pns slide cross the cermic glss cooktop, they my leve metl mrks which will resemble scrtches. Remove these mrks immeditely. COPPER - Excellent het conductor but discolors esily. My leve metl mrks on cermic glss (see Aluminum bove). STAINLESS STEEL - Slow het conductor with uneven cooking results. Is durble, esy to clen nd resists stining. CAST IRON - A poor het conductor however will retin het very well. Cooks evenly once cooking temperture is reched. Not recommended for use on cermic cooktops. PORCELAIN-ENAMEL on METAL - Heting chrcteristics will vry depending on bse mteril. Porcelin-enmel coting must be smooth to void scrtching cermic cooktops. GLASS - Slow het conductor. Not recommended for cermic cooktop surfces becuse it my scrtch the glss. 8

9 Cre & Clening (Clening Chrt) Clening Vrious Prts of Your Cooktop Before clening ny prt of the cooktop, be sure ll controls re turned OFF nd the cooktop is COOL. REMOVE SPILLOVERS AND HEAVY SOILING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. REGULAR CLEANING WILL REDUCE THE NUMBER OF MAJOR CLEANING LATER. Surfces How to Clen Aluminum (Trim Pieces) Glss, Pinted nd Plstic Control Knobs, Body Prts, nd Decortive Trim Control Pnel Use hot, sopy wter nd cloth or pper towel. Dry with clen cloth. Using soft cloth, clen with mild dish detergent nd wter or 50/50 solution of vinegr nd wter. Follow by rinsing the re with clen wter; dry nd polish with soft cloth. Glss cleners my be used if spryed on soft cloth first. DO NOT spry liquids directly on the control pd nd disply re. Do not use lrge mounts of wter on the control pnel - excess wter on the control re my cuse dmge to the pplince. Do not use other liquid cleners, brsive cleners, scouring pds, or some pper towels - they will dmge the finish. Wipe the control pnel clen fter ech use. Before clening the control pnel, turn ll controls to OFF nd remove the control knobs. To remove, pull ech knob stright off the shft. Clen using hot, sopy wter nd cloth. Be sure to squeeze excess wter from the cloth before wiping the pnel; especilly when wiping round the controls. Excess wter in or round the controls my cuse dmge to the pplince. To replce knobs fter clening, line up the flt sides of both the knob nd the shft; then push the knob into plce. Surfce Elements nd Drip Bowls Porcelin Enmel Cooktop Stinless Steel, Chrome (brushed) Decortive Trim Cooktop Cermic -Glss Cooktop Surfce elements cn be unplugged nd removed to mke clening the drip bowls esier. The surfce elements clen themselves when they re turned on. Food spilled on hot element will burn off. Food spilled on cool element cn be clened with dmp cloth ny remining soil will burn off the next time the element is used. NEVER IMMERSE A SURFACE ELEMENT IN WATER. To remove surfce elements nd drip bowls, follow the instructions under Generl Clening. To clen drip bowls, wsh in hot, sopy wter or in the dishwsher. Rinse nd dry while still wrm. Hrd-to-remove, burned-on soils cn be removed by soking the drip bowls for bout 20 minutes in slightly diluted liquid clenser or solution mde of equl prts mmoni nd wter. A nylon scrubber my be used fter soking. DO NOT use brsive clensers or steel wool, s they will scrtch the surfce. Alwys rinse with clen wter nd polish, nd dry with soft cloth or pper towel. To replce drip bowls nd surfce elements, follow the instructions under Generl Clening. Gentle scouring with sopy scouring pd will remove most spots. Rinse with 1:1 solution of cler wter nd mmoni. If necessry, cover difficult spots with n mmoni-soked pper towel for 30 to 40 minutes. Rinse with clen wter nd dmp cloth, nd then scrub with sop-filled scouring pd. Rinse nd wipe dry with clen cloth or pper towel. Remove ll cleners or the porcelin my become dmged during future heting. DO NOT use spry oven cleners on the cooktop. Clen stinless steel with hot, sopy wter nd dishcloth. Rinse with clen wter nd cloth. Do not use cleners with high concentrtions of chlorides or chlorines. Do not use hrsh scrubbing cleners. Only use kitchen cleners tht re especilly mde for clening stinless steel. Alwys be sure to rinse the cleners from the surfce s bluish stins my occur during heting tht cnnot be removed. See Cermic-Glss Cooktop in this Owner's Guide. 9

10 Coil Surfce Element (some models) Be creful not to bend terminl ends when replcing elements fter clening. Cre & Clening To Remove nd Replce Surfce Elements nd Drip Bowls ATTENTION: Never leve covers on the coil elements s they could be permnently dmged if the coil is turned on by ccident. Prior to clening the coil elements mke sure they re cold nd tht control knobs re turned to OFF. Coil elements clen themselves when they re turned on. Coil elements nd drip bowls re removble nd llow to clen the drip bowls. To remove coil element, push ginst the front edge nd lift element up nd out. To clen by hnd, wsh the drip bowls in hot sudsy wter. For hrd to remove spots, use nylon scrubber with sop. Rinse nd dry will still wrm. Never immerse coil elements in wter. To Rise the Cooktop for Clening 1. Grsp the sides nd lift from the front. A lift-up rod will support the top in its rised position. Only lift the top high enough to llow the support rod to rest in plce under the front of the cooktop. 2. Clen underneth using clen cloth nd hot, sopy wter. 3. To lower the top, lift the top slightly nd lower the rod. Lower the rnge top down into the rnge frme. When lowering the lift-up rnge top, grsp the sides with fingertips only. Be creful not to pinch fingers. DO NOT drop or bend the rnge top when rising or lowering. This could dmge the surfce. A rod swings up to support the top for clening underneth. Porcelin enmel cooktop clening instructions (some models) Do not use cooktop clener on hot cooktop. The fumes cn be hzrdous to your helth, nd cn chemiclly dmge the cooking surfce. Before clening the surfce cooktop, be sure the controls re turned to OFF nd the cooktop is cool. DO NOT use commercil oven cleners on the exterior surfces including rngetop nd door frme. Correct nd consistent clening is essentil to mintining your porcelin enmel cooktop. If food spills nd grese sptters re not removed, they my burn onto the surfce of the cooktop nd cuse permnent discolortion. Dily Clening For norml soil: 1. Allow cooktop surfce to cool. 2. Wipe off spills nd sptters using clen pper towel or clen cloth with wrm, sopy wter. 3. If needed, use sopy steel wool pd or other mild household cleners. 4. Be sure to rinse off the cleners or the porcelin my become dmged during future heting. For hevy, burned-on soil: 1. Allow cooktop surfce to cool. 2. Use sop filled scouring pd with wrm wter or cover hevily soiled spots with solution of cler wter nd mmoni. Scour gently. Rinse nd wipe dry with clen cloth. 3. If ny soil remins, pply few drops of recommended cooktop clening crem on the spots nd rub gently using clen dmp cloth or scouring pd. Buff with dry cloth until ll soil nd crem re removed. Frequent clening with the cooktop clening crem leves protective coting which helps in preventing scrtches nd brsions. For sugry spillovers: Sugry spills cn chemiclly dmge your cooktop surfce. Therefore, you must begin clening the spills while the cooktop is still hot. Use cution when following the steps below. 1. Turn off ll surfce units nd remove ll pns immeditely. 2.
