Do not shut off the power supply during sesonl use of the ir conditioner. This is required in order to ctivte the ir conditioner smoothly. If the min power supply is turned off during opertion, opertion will restrt utomticlly fter the power turns bck on gin. 6. OPERATION CHARACTERISTICS CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COOLING OPERATION (COOLING OPERATION AND AUTOMATIC COOLING OPERATION) If the COOLING OPERATION is used when the indoor temperture is low, frost dheres to the het exchnger of the indoor unit. This cn decrese the cooling cpcity. In this cse, the ir conditioner utomticlly switches to the DEFROST OPERATION for while. During the DEFROST OPERATION, the low fn speed or gentle wind is used to prevent the dischrge of melt wter. (The remote controller displys the fn speed tht is set.) When the outdoor temperture is high, it tkes some time until the indoor temperture reches the set temperture. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HEATING OPERATION (HEATING OPERATION AND AUTOMATIC HEATING OPERATION) START OF OPERATION It generlly tkes longer time for indoor temperture of the HEATING OPERATION to rech the set temperture compred to the COOLING OPERATION. It is dvisble to strt opertion in dvnce using the TIMER OPERATION. Perform the following opertion to prevent heting cpcity decrese nd dischrge of cool ir. AT THE START OF OPERATION AND AFTER THE DEFROST OPERATION A wrm ir circulting system is employed, nd therefore it tkes some time until the entire room is wrmed up fter the strt of opertion. The indoor fn runs to dischrge gentle wind utomticlly until the temperture inside the ir conditioner reches certin level. At this time, the remote controller displys " ". Leve it s it stnds nd wit for while. (The remote controller displys the fn speed tht is set.) The irflow direction becomes horizontl to prevent drft of cool ir to the inhbitnts. (The remote controller displys the set irflow direction tht is set.) English 6

8 DEFROST OPERATION (Frost removl opertion for the outdoor unit) As the frost on the coil of n outdoor unit increse, heting effect decreses nd the ir conditioner goes into the DEFROST OPERATION. The indoor unit fn stops nd the remote controller disply shows " ". With the wireless remote controller, the wrm ir stops, nd the DEFROST OPERATION lmp on the light receiving unit turn on. (The remote controller displys the fn speed tht is set.) After mximum 10 minutes of the DEFROST OPERATION, the ir conditioner returns to the HEATING OPERATION. The irflow direction becomes horizontl. (The remote controller displys the irflow direction tht is set.) During or fter the DEFROST OPERATION, white mist comes out from the ir inlet or outlet of the ir conditioner. (Refer to "WHITE MIST COMES OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER" on pge 13.) A hissing nd "Shuh" sound my be herd during this prticulr opertion. Regrding outside ir temperture nd heting cpcity The heting cpcity of the ir conditioner declines s the outside ir temperture flls. In such cse, use the ir conditioner in combintion with other heting systems. (When combustion pplince is used, ventilte the room regulrly.) Do not use the combustion pplince where the ir from the ir conditioner is blown directly towrd it. When the wrm ir stys under the ceiling nd your feet re cold, we recommend tht you use circultor ( fn to circulte the ir inside the room). For detils, consult your locl deler. When the indoor temperture exceeds the set temperture, the indoor unit dischrges gentle breeze (switches to gentle wind). The irflow direction becomes horizontl. (The remote controller displys the fn speed nd irflow direction tht re set.) CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROGRAM DRY OPERATION This opertion lowers the humidity without lowering the indoor temperture. The indoor temperture when the opertion button is pressed will be the set temperture. At this time, the fn speed nd temperture re set utomticlly, so the remote controller does not disply the fn speed nd set temperture. To efficiently lower the indoor temperture nd humidity, first use the COOLING OPERATION to lower the indoor temperture, nd then use the PROGRAM DRY OPERATION. When the indoor temperture is lowered, irflow from the indoor unit my stop. When operting continuously t downwrd irflow direction, ir blows in the utomtic set direction for period of time to prevent condenstion on the horizontl bldes. (The remote controller displys the irflow direction tht is set.) If the PROGRAM DRY OPERATION is used when the indoor temperture is low, frost forms the het exchnger of the indoor unit. In this cse, the ir conditioner utomticlly switches to the DEFROST OPERATION for while. The low fn speed or gentle wind is used to prevent the dischrge of melt wter. SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL Sound pressure level is less thn 70 db(a). AIRFLOW DIRECTION ADJUST Airflow direction djust cn be individully set for ech ir outlet. (only BRC1E53) Check the ir outlet identifiction mrk (refer to pge 5), nd use the remote controller to set the irflow direction. (For detils, refer to the opertion mnul ttched to the remote controller.) The horizontl bldes t the ir outlet re closed while the indoor unit stops. AIRFLOW DIRECTION ADJUST Press the AIRFLOW DIRECTION ADJUST/ SETTING button to djust the irflow direction. 1 Up nd down djustment swing The AIRFLOW DIRECTION disply swings s shown left nd the irflow direction continuously vries. (Automtic swing setting) 7 English

9 Press AIRFLOW DIRECTION ADJUST/SETTING button to select the ir direction of your choice. The AIRFLOW DIRECTION disply stops swinging nd the irflow direction is fixed (Fixed irflow direction setting). MOVEMENT OF THE HORIZONTAL BLADE For the following conditions, micro computer controls the irflow direction so it my be different from the disply. Opertion mode Up nd down direction COOLING AUTOMATIC COOLING PROGRAM DRY Air blows in the utomtic set direction for period of time to prevent condenstion on the horizontl bldes. When operting continuously t downwrd irflow direction HEATING AUTOMATIC HEATING The irflow direction becomes horizontl so tht it does not blow directly towrd your body. When room temperture is higher thn the set temperture When the HEATING OPERATION strts or during the DEFROST OPERATION (if frost forms on the outdoor unit) NOTE When group control is performed on the simultneous opertion system (twin nd triple), irflow direction cnnot be individully set on the slve units Indoor unit (Slve) 2 Indoor unit (Mster) 3 Outdoor unit 4 Remote controller 5 Twin 6 Triple Recommended irflow direction positions Cooling Heting We recommend using the irflow in the position listed bove when fixing the irflow direction. 7. OPTIMUM OPERATION Observe the following precutions to ensure the ir conditioner opertes. Prevent direct sunlight from the window by using curtins or blinds during the COOLING OPERATION. Keep doors nd windows closed. If the doors nd windows remin open, room ir will flow out nd decrese the effect of cooling nd heting. Never plce objects ner the ir inlet nd the ir outlet of the ir conditioner. It my decrese the effect or stop the opertion. Adjust the room temperture properly for comfortble environment. Avoid excessive heting or cooling. Not doing so wstes electricity. When the disply shows " " or "Time to clen filter", sk qulified service person to clen the filters. (Refer to "MAINTENANCE (FOR SERVICE PERSONNEL)" on pge 9.) Operting the indoor unit with stined ir filter my decrese cpcity or cuse mlfunction. Instll TVs, rdios, nd stereos 1 m or more wy from the indoor unit nd remote controller. Imges my become fuzzy nd noise my be generted. Turn off the power circuit breker when it is not in use for long period. When the power circuit breker is turned on, smll mount of power is consumed even if the ir conditioner is not in opertion. (*1) Turn off the power circuit breker for sving energy. When reoperting, turn on the power circuit breker 6 hours before opertion for smooth running. (Refer to "MAINTENANCE (FOR SERVICE PERSONNEL)" on pge 9) (*2) *1 The consumed power while the outdoor unit is not in opertion depends on the model. *2 The setting before the power circuit breker is cut off is stored. (The timer setting is clered.) Fully use the function of irflow direction djust. English 8

10 Cold ir gthers on the floor, nd wrm ir gthers under the ceiling. Set the ir direction to horizontl during the COOLING or PROGRAM DRY OPERATION, nd set it downwrds during the HEATING OPERATION. Do not let the ir blow directly to person. Use the TIMER OPERATION effectively. It tkes some time until the indoor temperture reches the set temperture. It is dvisble to strt opertion in dvnce using the TIMER OPERATION. 8.
