The verall winner n the evening was Svereign Hills, Prt Macquarie, a sustainable new twn n the NSW mid-nrth Cast. Svereign Hills demnstrates best practice urban design and is a mdel urban release area prject fr thers t fllw. The Prject als tk the categry Award fr Urban design-plans & ideas. In cngratulating the Urban Futures Grup and Prt Macquarie-Hastings Cuncil, PIA NSW President Julie Bindn said this prject was a mdel f private sectr and lcal gvernment cperatin and partnership, achieving a significant twn planning utcme. Prt Macquarie-Hastings Cuncil als tk the Urban Planning Achievement award fr the Planned New Twn - Prt Macquarie. The judges cnsidered this nminatin t be an utstanding example f a sustained planning initiative by lcal gvernment ver a lng perid f time. Planning fr the Thrumster new twn has been a majr undertaking fr Cuncil ver the past five years. The prject als demnstrates that a visinary Cuncil in partnership with a visinary develper can achieve high quality sustainable utcmes. The nminatins and the awards this year demnstrate the gd wrk being dne by the planning prfessin acrss New Suth Wales. It is particularly pleasing t see lcal cuncils prducing innvative and sustainable prjects. The annual Awards celebrate planning achievements acrss 11 categries and this year attracted a number f strng cntenders. At a time when the planning system is underging change and the planning prfessin cntinues t be under pressure, it is vitally imprtant that we recgnise ur achievements and supprt the talented and hard-wrking planning prfessinals, Ms Bindn said.
